The linen on the ceiling was a look very popular during the hippie era. It gave a bohemien look of a nomadic middle eastern tent.

There is a house my great-great grandparents built in Detroit , in the early 1900s, found the record that was in the old newspaper... have pictures of the house, it was big. Went there once (you have heard, I am sure the stories about Detroit, Michigan.. not safe in certain areas lol). I went anyway and a lady was sitting in her rocking chair with a s**t g*n . I left asap . Now the house is a parking lot. The old general store behind the house is still there but the house and the house next to it, gone :( so much history as my great-great grandfather built it and he came from Europe. I love history too much lol. Happy New Year and love your videos :) - binge watching these past few days :)

Holy Hell, now walking in to that would have made anyone leave asap!!! Did she say anything?? lol You are right about history and I love it too, just knowing that a home that had so many years of living and family in it can just sink behind trees and rot away or get bulldozed is quite sad.....Thanks for sharing your story Rachel, glad you are enjoying my videos. @tamarrajames3590

The foundations, wall plaster, and wooden framing really speak to around 1900 middle class...nice size rooms, decent natural lighting for the time, and a combination of plaster/stucco walls with angles ceilings based on 1020s pressboard. The area that was chain linked fence made me think of chickens, kept close to the house to minimize depredations by dingos and the like. There is that turquoise paint again...late 40s early 50s...everything of any age that has been painted will have a layer of that colour no matter where in the world you are. Start checking if you doubt me, there must have been a huge overrun on it. I stripped a depression era folk art washstand, and among 7 layers of paint...there it was. I started stripping cedar panel in the basement of my 1870s home of the battleship grey oil paint...for obvious reasons, and there...under a cream layer was, you guessed it...turquoise. It had a revival in the 70s, and appears to be courting one this past summer season 2018. Great find...thanks for braving it for us. Please...stay safe out there.🖤🇨🇦
@urbexindigo5164
@urbexindigo5164 5 лет назад
Yes indeed I have seen that paint a lot Tamarra! hahaha Why was it so popular? I actually like it too hahahaha :-) The sheets seem to be up to catch the paint flakes falling what are your thoughts? It must have been the final straw on moving out i`s say!! :-)
@tamarrajames3590
@tamarrajames3590 5 лет назад
Urbex Indigo about the turquoise paint, I think some company did a serious over-run by mistake, and then advertised it into the “must have” colour of the year. Which layers it is in is almost archaeological on a timeline of when it was the in colour. In the 1950s it was that turquoise and something called “flamingo” the sheets seemed to be there to carch anything falling...and there seemed to be more than paint flakes to my eye. I think they bit off more than they could chew and just gave up. There may have been more damage than they anticipated. Or a big expenditure other than the house, and unexpected...or even an ailing Parent needing care, or an unexpected death leaving responsibilities. There are so many things that can offset our plans and projects.🖤🇨🇦

Looks like the place had started to decay while still occupied so they covered the ceiling with sheets to make it look better &/or to catch dust, flakes of paint etc.

Hey Paul. Great find, huh? I noticed a neat little rocker for a child. It was cut out to look like a duck or swan. Both sides would have been the same, with a seat in the middle and the bottom of the duck or swan made to rock back and forth. I'm not the best at descriptions. We had these here in USA, in various animals, but haven't seen one in many yrs. How about opening cupboards and drawers to see dishes or silverware. Something I'm sure you don't care about. But....be good for us ladies. I think those sheets were nailed up to keep the ceilings from coming down! My opinion. Take care. Later......

I went to the lighthouse the other night & it was off the charts! I used some new EMF & other stuff & got readings where no elec. was up to 4 & beyond. The creepiest thing was when looking at the pics latter & seeing a tall figure in a black hood with a mean skull type face with long sharp teeth. Looks like it was looking at my box with the EMF/recorder in it. Then at the Keepers House it is always all dark since I've been here 6 years, that night 2 top rooms were dimly lite & you can see a woman in 1800s clothes leaning out the window & she wasn't alone. Also the room next to it had a weird looking thing. By the way all the windows were shut at the time! The same looking woman was also in a picture sitting on the steps at the front door. You can see her but also see through her and see the white railing behind her. Next to that building a tall, thin pale girl in a white night gown was staring wide eyed like in shock facing at least 4 other sprites. I got one deep scratch on my right arm. When I get paid I'm getting hard copies made. Haven't listened to the audio stuff yet. But that's what I did this week. I'd never been out there that late before, I will again but will wear long sleeves. (Like that will really help) When I get hard copies made is there a way I could show them to you? I'll look for apps on a phone I can get to edit & put videos up by phone. I have no computer yet. Been a crazy cool week ! Instead of being scared I'm fascinated. Though the pointed teeth thing is kinda major creepy.

From the way the doors were made & hardware plus the way the doorways were made with the top wood extending beyond the frame that's the way my grandfather from Scotland built his house, over 100 yrs ago. So I'd say it's easily 100 or more years old. The 'sheets' probably have plastic behind them & they may be filled with water. There were some books on the bookcase that might have a name in them seen as you were walking out. I wouldn't go back in there. Didn't like seeing the gas can right by the door. Think someone is planning on torching the place? Glad you got out of there ok.

Great video..glad to get new Notication, had to watch it first thing after getting up this morning. (after taking the dog out to potty first..lol) Really old house, in bad shape though. Be careful, parts look dangerous. I love the real old ones & items left in them. Looking forward to the next one !

Thanks Shirley! :-) Yeah I though those sheets were going to fall down and cover me with God only know what! lol. Pity this old house was basically used as a shed and no real old homely things left.

Hey Jo thanks for watching :-) I know, was really hoping I could provide a bit of info. I really think that this house maybe the original homestead of the newer home that sits up further on the hill. Maybe its considered the same property location but is now forgotten in the trees.

What's at 12:09 ? 16 boxes of Incpea ? Maybe the town library could know the date of the home. Ck cematary records. Get the past owners names, ect that way, hope that helps. But you've prob. already done that. That house was so well built, it was loved at one time. Sad to see it going.

Looking at the wiring, power points and plastic conduit I'd recon it's been partly rewired in the 1980's. The steel sheeting on the floor of the 2nd room you entered looks like "pressed metal ceiling panels" I think were used from 1890 to 1940. The spray bottles of Round-Up weed killer in the kitchen look very recent as there's no major dust on them. The roll of chicken wire looks pretty new to. Judging by the house in general as you said it was probably lived in until the 1990's.

Hey Tim your spot on with the pressed tin now I look back at it! :-) And it fits in well with the age of this place. Shame it has been just used as a shed since 1990. I was hoping there was cool old furniture and things inside :-)

EARTH ANGEL😇 SWEET wannabe country home!? SeCluded with lush trees and private! May they wanted to escape the big house and just hang out here!!!🤔. ONE part looks like 1800s, other part has 1930s ceilings and doors. Attempt to restore maybe, but too much work. Probably just left it.SUCH a state of disrepair!!😧. HOPE that U wear a 😷 mask in these places!!!😍👍

Yeah I think it must have been the original homestead of the property and is now used as a makeshift storage shed. Cant see anyone even trying restore this. It will turn into rubble. Yeah I do wear a mask if really dusty and musty :-)

Great video! I don't pay graffiti any attention .. unless it's good! Half of my parents house was built in the mid 1800..The windows were the same as there!They hung bed sheets over the ceilings until they finished rebuilding and adding on! To stay a little warmer!Until my dad put in lower ceilings! Thanks mate!👍🌟🙋🕊️

Very crude old house almost looks like it was used as a place for hunters if it was in the woods. Glad you didn't fall through the floor but I don't think you would have fallen very far with no basement. Thanx

Hey Gerald thanks for watching :-) I wish I could have been able to find out history on this as it is indeed very intriguing regarding where it is, it is like it is off the grid and forgotten even though it was once used as a home that had power. I`m thinking it was the original homestead of the larger new home up near the top of the hill.

This was a rich find !...... plenty of history :) . I was immediately struck by the the sheets of muslin draping from the ceiling. I have seen this many times in old Victorian era houses- they used sheets of muslin as a wallpaper base. I am not sure this is the case with this house- but the technique was to lay a smooth sheet of plaster over lath. Cotton muslin was then glued over it, and then wall paper glued to the muslin. Often they stopped with the muslin sheets which were often decorated as a wall paper itself-- flowers, designs etc.. When the walls and ceilings begin to fail (leaking rain water etc) the glue dissolves- and we see the results. I like to take 'cuttings' of sections of such wall papered houses. This, of course, is done pre-demolition or remodeling. I will use a sharp knife and section out a large square of usually ornate wall paper, only to find several layers of other paper and muslin backings beneath each layer....like pages in a book. One caution- be very careful in handling these materials. In the 1800's it was a common practice to mix strychnine and arsenic into the wheat paste used as wall paper glue. Mice and rats loved to chew these papered wall, and it was used as a deterrent. But many young children liked the sweet taste as well, and died of this poisoning too. Handle old wall paper with care. . I smiled at he old rotary wall phone. It rotates in the opposite direction of of phones in the UK and the Americas. I lived for awhile in a house in New Zealand with just such an old phone- it drove me bonkers to try and make a call using it- everything was reversed and I invariably made a muck of any dialing attempts. . Looks like the plumbing was added later- no fussy attempts at those faucets..lol . A neat find.... thanks for sharing it. .

Ana you have solved yet another mystery I think. Those sheets freaked me out! I think there was one other home I saw it but only one room. I was thinking maybe they were trying to catch the flaking paint off the ceilings lol. Yeah I grew up with the rotary phone just like that one and I think it is actually still on the wall at my mothers house! haha. Thanks again for the indepth knowledge :-)
@timareskog2418

And I only thought it was water that went down the drain in the opposite direction, I didn't know the phone rotary dial went the other way too. Thanks for sharing this info 👍🇦🇺.

Ana I have lived in Latin America and now South America for the last 17 years. I have put sheets on the ceiling to keep bugs that live in the corizo {similar to bamboo) from falling in my food! My next house will have a cement roof ! I hate bugs!!!!
