Loved your story about your grandfather. My Dad( would have been 104) this year. He was the same kind of guy. Taught me everything I know that is worth a damn. I am a graduate EE. The best advice I ever got was his admonition “ you are an educated man; but never disrespect a man who works with his hands.!”He was a WW2 vet ( 2 bronze stars) 291st Combat Engineers. His group built the longest tactical bridge ever built under fire. Over a mike long across the Rhine River.
@williamconner9407
@williamconner9407 6 месяцев назад
I think that bridge was the replacement for the Remagen bridge after it collapsed into the Rhine. If it is the one i'm thinking of, my dad crossed your granddad's bridge while commanding an armored platoon in the 20th armored division. Go figure!

It was in fact that bridge!
@anthonyvisnesky6656
@anthonyvisnesky6656 6 месяцев назад
It was a pontoon based tactical bridge designed to support heavy armor and troop transport. My Dad’s MOS was” bridge carpenter” he was a T-5. It was a specialist rank that no longer exists. We must thank them all for their selfless service!

If anyone is interested in the “ full story” of this remarkable engineering feat. Building a bridge to support the transport of “ heavy armor” in days ,not months, under heavy enemy fire. I highly recommend the book”First Across the Rhine”. It recounts the amazing abilities of our “citizen soldiers” and what their collective excellence was able to accomplish in the fight to preserve our freedom. It truly was “ the greatest generation.”

I lost a bead in the sand dunes once on a truck. We scooped out a lot of sand before we re seated the bead. I had been dealing with a vibration that couldn’t be determined by the tire shop. The truck never drove better! We loved it so much we put 5 oz of sand in each tire. It drove perfectly afterwards.

Great episode, Mortske. A bit of everything. Some nostalgia, some old stories, some 'will it run', some wrenching and diagnostics, some Puddinfied action, a dig at DDSS, some philosophising and a lovely long drive to the back beat of a 454 GM big block rumble. Can't beat that. That' a truck I'd be right into if I was over there, mate. Not a big 4WD fan as I've never needed it, but I guess where you are, it's almost a necessity. Well, where you are and in the most affluent area of the city I live in, anyway. Why is it that people who live in posh areas like to drive a huge 4WD vehicle, wash it every week, polish it once a month and the most dirt it ever sees is when it's parked next to a grass berm? Weird..... Anyway, my condolences on the rod knock. She's definitely a slap-happy piston noise rather than a bearing, I reckon. Too much tinny sound in the knock it makes, so probably in the gudgeon pin (which you blokes call a 'wrist pin') or the piston slapping the bore. Seemed to be louder on the passenger's side. Low oil pressure shouldn't change whether it appears or not though, so maybe it IS a big end. Damn shame, because the sound of that engine was lovely. I'm also not a huge BB fan because there's nothing you can do with a BB that you can't do with a SB....although the BB sound always hits me in the chest and very few small blocks can do that without the right exhaust, but none can do it right through the rev range like a big block can. Love the two-tone and Silverado trim level. Yeah, as you get older, you DO prefer the more comfortable things in life. Cup holders, a working air conditioner and heater, good wiper blades and a full washer bottle, decent headlights, good brakes and a suspension that does not break your back or slop you from one side of the vehicle to the other when you drive it. And a 10mph waver on the speedo? Mate - when the Stag and the 2500 start off on a hot day, they wing the needle from 0-30mph and if I am crawling along in traffic when the car has been running for a bit, they will sweep the speedo from 0-140mph until they get over 20mph, then they waver 20mph until they get to around the 40mph mark. The joys of getting old - everything that should be stiff or steady isn't and everything that should move easily, doesn't. Sad but true..... All the best for Christmas, buddy. Hope its a bloody good one for ya!

Old railroad ties are cheap (many times free) and they work great for blocking cars up off the ground for long term storage.

Great story on your Grandfather. You know another reason folks used to pick stuff up off of the roads? To prevent others from getting flat tires. Dual purpose, kinda. When I find rubber master cylinder cover gaskets deformed that way (swollen and rubbery) it is usually because someone put the completely wrong fluid in the reservoir, like power steering fluid. Cool truck, Mortske! I would have probably kept that one! Take care, man. Keep rockin'!

Mortske check the caps on the axle joints, some have the zirk in the caps instead of the cross. Also an old farmer trick for leaking wheel seals is to replace the seal and pack the bearings with grease and run the diff an inch low on oil. I’ve ran into that many times working in a shop. Usually only on the farm truck we did bakes on. If you use 1/2” plastic air brake tubing it’s a bit more flexible, or pex tubing works also. Hook the vacuum ball back up and the heat should work again.

I loved this one. I had a 1985 CUCV that I bought from the Army auction in Korea when I got out of the Army. That thing was a beast for what it was. Dana 60 front Corporate 14 in the rear. Only drawback was the 6.2. No top end but would pull like crazy down low. Really needed a turbo. When I bought it the truck only had 52k miles. I paid $375 for it. Oh the old days! I miss that truck. Blackout lights and a push bar. Sweet ride when I loaded it full of wood. Otherwise it rode like a chuck wagon. Great video.

Man, that's a really neat one! I hope someone will buy it and fix it up. When I was younger I didn't care much about cars, but now in my 40s I've somehow fallen in love with American squarebodies. There's just something so beautiful and nostalgic with old pickups. I guess it's thanks to all those gen 1 Transformers, The A-Team, and those other shows I watched growing up.

I've been so backed up catching up on wathcing videos finally I glad I got to watch yours. In all the years working at my dad's gas station in NJ we rarely ever had to balance tires with the beads in any 3/4 ton trucks we had come in. we always used regular old School tire weights, your story about your grandfather reminded me of the stuff that would appear on the street in front of the shop or on the side street and side walk or next to the dumpster , some being power tools and wheel barrows, extra wheel, tools mud flaps off of power company trucks etc. if you keep the one ton square body LS swap is my vote. thanks always for the great programming.

Morstske saved my life and my Marriage ! I used to live like Elvis and i suffered from E D and pimply skin I would take hand fulls of pills to fall asleep or drink to excess but now I watch Morstske`s u tube videos with his calming voice and I fall peacefully and gently to a restful slumber and wake up refreshed and ready for the world. I lost 200 pounds my skin is clear and my wife is happy too. Thank you! Morstske.
