It's so sad that the shark will now rotten in his chamber... Till someone decides to buy that or destroy the buildings... He will have a bad surprise when he realise the green after isnt water and has a shark inside of it...
For those new here: the shark's name is Rosie. She was caught in 1998 in the Lukin's family's tuna fishing nets on the coasts of South Australia. Wildlife Wonderland purchased her body and put her in a tank filled with formaldehyde.
A little more information about why it closed if anyone is interested, I believe financial difficulties created the problems that led to it's closure. The park operator had held a valid licence for several years but had failed to renew it that year. And then they were evicted by their landlord (the park didn't own the land it was on). It wasn't until the eviction that authorities stepped in and the park operator agreed to surrender the animals. I don't think the animals were deliberately being abused, I certainly didn't see any evidence of that when I visited in 2008. I think it was more due to the fact of them not being able to care for the animals anymore. About the shark, it's real, and really dead, a great white accidentally caught in nets in the late 90's and preserved. I'm really surprised it's still there considering the drama about it's ownership back in 2004, the new owners of the park were claiming that the shark was included in the sale but a museum was claiming it had been gifted to them. I'm guessing the museum either didn't go ahead with the legal proceedings or they lost the case, which is a shame because then the shark wouldn't be rotting away under layers of possum s%&t it would be in a museum teaching kids. Makes me a bit mad really. I won't post the links to the news stories as I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be wise to reveal it's exact location. **Edit** The shark was never held alive in captivity, it was displayed as a specimen, it was accidentally caught in fishing nets and died there. Please read the comments, I'm getting asked the same question over and over!!! Also it is not the Damien Hirst shark, that shark was a different species caught several years earlier and was shipped to England.
Thanks for taking the time to write this and giving everyone more information on this place. Ive been talking to an old owner and he has offered to send me original footage of the park. So im hoping to do another video seeing as its gone a bit viral. Thanks again
@@hyesterettsjustituariuskvn431 This one was never held alive in captivity, it was caught in fishing nets off the coast of SA. Probably already dead before the net was pulled back onto the boat.
Oh wow!! I used to work there from 1988-1998. The shark is real - a 5 metre Great White that was caught up in tuna nets off South Aust. The park was beautiful back then. Lots of healthy Australian wildlife, all held with permits, kangaroos, wallabies, emus, wombats, dingoes, cockatoos, galahs, and more, the giant worm museum and huge coffee shop and souvenir shop. The original owners sold it around 1999/2000. How sad it is to see it like this today.
The shark was obviously dead. I never said it was alive. It died tangled up in tuna fishing nets. The tank was full of a preserving liquid. The park was open for over 20 years, so it's very possible your mum and I never worked there at the same time.
@Katy Young The shark is in a solution and it's being held there. The solution stops the fish from decaying. It is most likely formaldehyde. Besides do you even know when your mom worked there? Have you ever thought that maybe they didn't work there at the same time? Plus she knew exactly what happened to the shark how did she know that if she didn't work there? Look before you go and accuse people of lying why don't you go try doing some research on basic biology and getting your facts right first honestly.
For anyone who don't seem to know yet, that shark is not an animatronic like you'd expect from most abandoned theme parks, she is REAL, preserved in formaldehyde, she was given the name Rosie.
When I first saw this, I didn't realise it was a well-known shark in formaldehyde. I actually thought it was a shark which had been left to die alone in an abandoned zoo. I wondered why the camera guy was so chill about it.
@@hannahbg1852 Nah, she was already dead when she arrived at the park. Great whites can't even survive in tanks in the first place, they're just too big. That's why you'll never see one in an aquarium.
@s t a r d u s t The whales don't have enough space either, actually. There was a big scandal about it causing the whales psychological problems and what not.
@@schleepy6362 I don't think it's because they are too big for tanks, most of the time they become stressed out or super depressed and died shortly after being in captivity. But I guess tank sizes could be a reason too
@@pikaperishock1478 I think the main reason is that most sharks need to keep moving to continue to breathe, otherwise they suffocate. That's why smaller sharks survive in large tanks in aquariums but larger sharks can't. Whales are mammals so they breathe air and dont need to be constantly moving to survive, although in captivity they usually get really sick, depressed, and can develop psychosis.
For anyone wondering, the sharks name is Rosie. She was caught in a fishing net and died, her body was the. Sold to the park and they kept her in a tank of formaldehyde to preserve her body. Vandals trespassing at the park opened the tank, formaldehyde started to evaporate and exposed her fin so it began to decay. People also threw folding chairs and an old tv into her tank. A group managed to get her from the abandoned park, and make a new tank for her for be preserved in.
I worked at this park. I left 2 months before it closed. We poured our heart and soul into the place but sadly lack of funding was the reason it went downhill and closed. There were no offences against wildlife. Every single animal was so loved. It broke my heart.
Lukie: yup i like games more its lit bro Rosie: rude i am fab and im just here cant you let me go to a grave yard? Lukie: nah ima leave u there have fun Rosie: your adopted
@@HeadZoneHighlights my name is jade and i was just doing it for fun i thought it was funny i didnt exspect anyone to "laugh" and i didnt want to do any god damn last laugh
Lukie Mc it was a while back but I remember it being over dramatic to get views like “Luke was frozen he could not believe what he saw!!!” But you handled this shit like a boss bro I would have shit me pants
@@LukieMc It was serious clickbait, I did the same this morning thinking it'd be something more serious than just seeing a semi-preserved shark from the language they used
Most that do these do that out of respect for the setting, dont think ive seen any abandoned place video where anyones messed with anything.like how you mentioned the pics,he glanced at them few seconds then left them be.
For anyone wondering, the thing leaking from the tank is highly toxic, as it was used to preserve the shark. Due to the high toxicity, he was only able to be in there for two minutes
Considering this is in australia, I'm surprised a crocodile didn't jump out of that pond in front of the building at the start of the video. Or at least a venomous spider.
I've been this place as a kid, it was one of my favourite places. Didn't even know it got shut down, sad day it was actually a great place too I think it's located in the middle of no where which didn't help it's tourism but the giant worm is an icon they should keep the giant worm there.
5:53 damn wedding pictures? Such memories.. what happened to these people? Seems like a horror movie. Like imagining a past civilisation or exploring remnants of Pompeii
Have to say man, you were so incredibly respectful when exploring this place, not looking through photographs that had been left when you realised they were probably personal family photos and all that kind of thing. Earned a like there my friend, thank you for being such a genuinely good human :)
It would be that blare witch moment were I’m just so terrified that all that’s running is my snot as I record my nose bubbles. Marking incoherent noises.
Should have gotten a proper licence to run it. Who knows how they treated those animals. But yeah, I do get that feeling that this is some person's dream that is just left to waste.
Lol I was thinking of this place as a CoD Z's map with less things on the ground to obstruct your running Other than that yeah, it'd be a good setting for such
I love this a lot. I find it really respectful that you didn't damage nor take anything, and you didn't cut the video hardly at all so we got to experience what you did. and that ''dead'' shark?? was terrifying. why was that in there??
@@clouderino It's a combination of both, but it doesn't matter. I don't know what the original commenter was expecting, seems like they thought this place would remain in pristine condition forever after being abandoned lol
I remember this place from when I was a child, the shark was my favourite part. It's a real dead shark. Shame it's just there collecting dust. So.weriod to see it like this, it's so different to when I was a child...
@@austincortes7637 yes it is real. Tank is bigger in person. But it was never alive during being at the wildlife park. It was caught by fishermen in the 90s or maybe 80s, and after it died that's when they put it in the tank. So the tank never had to be big enough to move around in, just to fit the shark.
@Damiensavige it was killed by the fisherman, after they caught the shark. A shark like that would not be able to live in a small tank as obviously needs room to swim around in. Once the shark was killed by the fisherman, they then displayed it in a tank.
At first I was like “Omg why isn’t he wearing gloves and a respirator?!” And then I realized he’s Australian and they like eat scorpions for breakfast, no big deal then.
@@nox9239 obviously you're not really Australian, probably Tassie. I usually have my scorpions stuff with vegemite and milo, with a side of Zooper Zoopers and a couple of party pies.
I like how Snapchat has a story about a "haunted shark" but when they shown pictures of it they shown rosie ...also it was barely submitted yesterday. Snapchats story of this is severely edited and doctored to look interesting
I didn’t even want to read snapchats “read one paragraph, click to next page and have 20 ads pop up” bullshit so I just came here and searched homies name. I think he’s got potential for urban exploration tho definitely. Fuck snapchats heavily altered bs
I saw this video in my recommended yesterday, ignored it because the thumbnail looked like clickbait, had a weird ass dream about it, and now here I am.
Yeah. Think about being in a long abandoned zoo/marine life aquarium and while you're walking past a tank filled with murky water, a huge shark glides past. 😰
It kinda reminds me of Resident Evil. I recall playing a game in the series where you enter some underground area of the mansion where you encounter 2 big great white sharks and you have to avoid being eaten by them as you make your way towards a control room. The place appears to be some sort of experimentation chamber.
Dora Clement i dont thinks she means preserved as in saved for others to find but preserved as in dead and embalmed (Or whatever they do to sharks). It sounds like she thought it was maybe still alive but was relieved to find that it was just a display ;)
That tank is straight out of a horror movie. I kept looking away because I was so sure something would attack the glass. Definitely worth the watch! It’s creepy and fascinating looking into pictures and personal items people left behind. My main question is: how long is that tank going to sit there!?! I can totally imagine so advanced society finding it 1000years from now just like it is. Creepy.
Chippy the thumbnail isn’t clickbait. If they show the thumbnail in the video, it can’t be clickbait. It’s not like they found a random picture on the internet of the shark.
Came back to this right from the start. Glad you gave/ got attention to Rosie so she had a proper send off. Sad place. But things like this is why I love Urbex. Edit: Found out they Didnt give her a send off nope just more display shame bless her.
Honestly, this should be in the trending, unlike the stuff that usually goes which has soo much clickbait and lies, cause it really interesting to see this old stuff left there. Id be scared to go there. I haven't finished watching the video, but I'm enjoying it so far.
I love seeing these kinds of abandoned places, especially when you dont know why it had to be shutdown, you start to wonder if maybe there was an incident with an animal that resulted in everyone leaving, anyway great video
Veridium TM actually not it was because Disney world had just opened a new water park and that was losing business, and the previous year many we were afraid to go to Disney because of Terrorist attacks in (2001)
Nice video. Poor sharky. Thanks for no clickbait that's really is annoying and disappointing when people do that. This was not disappointing. Very interesting.
Josh Downes actually the shark is very real and very dead :/ there were issues with the ownership of the shark. I know the pinned comment has more information about it.
Obviously... how could a shark of that size live in a tank that small and dirty? Plus it's a great white shark which are probably one of the most difficult sharks to keep alive in captivity. This is just taxidermy
It does my friend, it does, and it freaks me out sometimes, the freakiest one I got was about skin conditions where people had huge ass holes all over their skin. Freaked me the fuck out.
I just don’t understand how it could be real. Sharks like that aren’t just held in aquariums. They are made to swim long distances every day so how could they survive being caged up? Maybe I’m just confused on the type of shark.
@@heatherenglish9745 word is that it was already dead and the tank is filled with preserving liquids which makes sense because if it was water and the shark was alive back then it would be way more decomposed and the smell would be unbearable for the camera men
When he found the shark and turned off his light I lost it. Because he was like ‘that’s creepy’ and turned away into darkness and I saw my reflection in my phone and scared myself 😂
I’m actually genuinely glad you did bring Rosie to light, even if stupid vandals tried to ruin her. Now she has a new home, where she can be appreciated, all thanks to you!!
