Here's the rest of the footage I shot while on my Road Trip 1 Episode. Some really amazing old Tug Boats and old ships in this place. I feel lucky that I got to explore it and capture these magnificent boats before rust overtakes them.
May they all rest in peace.

It's rather sad that all these boats are left to rot after their years of service. At least they can still be remembered for all their hard work and what they contributed.

Cool yard! Love the old tow boats. Old dredge clam shell holes to let water out. I would love to have one of the old girls as a coastal cruiser repower it as its towing days are over and fuel isn't cheap. The fire boat should be in a park buried to its water line so kids can dream but some mother find fault in that. Teach your kid better if he/she gets hurt.

I did the same kind of exploration on the old ferry boat Kalakala which was a favorite icon of pacific northwest. Same as you, when I approached the ship there were no keep off signs and there was a gangway to the ship so I went aboard and went throughout the ferry doing a lot of photography. Well, the vessels owner showed up and was screaming at me,' with the most disgusting horrible halitosis', to get off the ship. I told this mammal to put up a sign next time if you don't want anyone on your ship. I got in a huge amount of photography of the entire ship to include the engine room and the bridge. Sadly, this vessel has been broken up for scrap. Nice find and your brand of humor is great.

I would love to own a large boat like that and homestead it but for what it's worth in scrap metal and what it would cost to fix even if you were a welder and had yer own dry dock to make repairs probably cheaper to build a house. The average life span of a boat is about 30 years before every thing on the boat goes to shit with rust and corrostion and it's time consuming and dangerous to dismantle and scrap cheaper and safer to let them rot and sink then even to scrap and the reason why most of them don't have the prop and shaft is because that's solid copper or brass ! .it's the most valuable and easyist thing to remove for scrap. And cost a fortune to replace especially the big heavy ones ..

The guy in the truck is probably a nice dude if he let you stay after explaining what happened. From his point of view he probably thought you were a scavenger looking to steal parts or metal. If he breaks those boats down for scrap for a living you can see why he'd pounce on someone wandering in to his property. Nice dude though.

@privateer177666
@privateer177666 4 года назад
She was commissioned as the Point Roberts, last stationed in Mayport FL. She took part in the search for the wreckage of the Space Shuttle Chalenger there. She was later decommissioned as a Coast Guard cutter and recycled by the Environmental Protection Agency in Duluth MN and renamed “Lake Explorer”. She served several years longer as a Great Lakes research vessel. (I was a Mate/Engineer aboard her there) She was decommissioned by the EPA due to the extensive cost of replating of the hull that was simply worn thin. She was replaced by another recycled ship acquired from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration formerly known as the “Rude”, now sailing as the Research Vessel “Lake Explorer 2”, Skipperd by S. Miller. Look up EPA.gov

I'm not suprised the guy got a bit shirty with you, that appears to be a working boatyard. The tug Holly Ann was a fully operational working tug just 8 years ago. "Laid-Up" for some of them, might be a better description than "abandoned" but I guess that wouldn't have resulted in many hits.. Some ships are laid-up for years, but never "abandoned". One day, one day.😉

Gee, 6ft fence 3 rows of barbed wire doesn't give a hint of they don't want unauthorized people coming onto the property? I been in the same situation as the owner. I always had great respect for people that ask and have an honest intention and interest. For every innocent person there always others there to steal, take pics to bitch to the city about something, or just flat out vandals. So always ask, you may find yourself given access to pictures, history an inside look and a life long acquaintance. Or dont ask and you might find yourself held at gun point or attacked by a dog. I had 2 dobermans that cornered a guy who walked on property and ignored signs. He literally sh$$ his pants. Didn't know what was going on but heard all the barking and screaming. Owners will get the most mad when trespassers try to justify doing whatever they want on someone else's property. But they themselves would be enraged if someone just walked into their back yard or garage and started poking around just because the gate or door is open or cause they feel like it. When you ask you might find yourself getting to see things you only dreamed of.
