Lets head to Heckscherville Pennsylvania to visit and learn about an 1800's Train station. By first glance it looks Abandoned, but is certainly not Forgotten. I discovered this location on Google maps several years ago, but just finally made it out here to see it in person. Luckily I found an older RU-vid video that covered some of the history on this place, but I was able to find older historical images that shows how this place transformed since the 1930s. Sadly, there's not much left to see, but hopefully what is left will be preserved.

I hope so JP. Shame no one restores it. It would be a major undertaking but worth it. A forgotten part of our history when trains were king.

What a great location. Interesting how it changed over the years (progression photos). So much gets changed, forgotten, torn down, rebuilt,etc. It's great that people had the forethought to photograph and map things, so people have a reference in the future. Hmm, similar to you Jay. These old stations/depots are disappearing rather quickly, I hope in the near future this one gets restored or refurbished for another use. Thanks Jay and RJ for bringing us along. 👊👍🖖

You said it. It's becoming rare to find places like this. Some are lucky to get rehabbed, but most are destroyed. One of the main reasons I do this is for the places that don't survive, but will still be remembered for future generations.

Another cool explore. Too bad someone doesn't restore this building if it can be. Be a really cool museum, meeting/wedding hall, model train meeting place etc. Lots of uses for it. Maybe the fires weren't intentionally set. It could have been something like a lightning strike that caused it. Be cool to find an older resident in the area that knows about this place or maybe even worked at the station or the colliery. Perhaps there's a historical society in the area. Btw I ordered a Chelsea pto for our winch on one of the skidders or the tractor years back so I knew what it was as soon as your showed it. Thanks again for taking us along.

I explored and took photographs there with a published historical photographer in the early 2000’s. The engine house was still there then. I remember seeing locals storing items like ATV’s etc in that station. There are some very interesting ruins of a coal conveyor line in that area. There is also somewhere back that way the remains of an old Victorian home with a grand staircase. I’d like to tag along with you on some others trips and bring my Metal Detector and see what we can find. I’ll look for my pictures and try to send you some. Great video. Especially loved the montage. Sanborn Insurance maps of that area would really provide some historical informative. I do remember that there was no mistaking what the engine house building was used for. Dave in Reading, originally from Frackville.

I would have to wonder if the train station is still structurally sound enough that if someone were to refurbish it into either it's original designation or build it into a house/residence, it looks like it could be done but without seeing the framing and trusses, it may not be worth redoing, at least in my opinion lol, cool video journey JP, I'll be looking forward to when you come up to Susquehanna to shoot a video

@jamesalinio5277

@@JPVideos81 lol someone would have to have some deep pockets to do a renovation like that, there is a family that bought the old train station here in town, he and his son have done a ton of work to the building already and they are still not done yet, I've been here 10 years and they were working on it then, I have been through it once shortly after I moved here, he had been working on the roof then, I know he had it up for sale for $1.3 million then and he keeps getting more done, I believe that you could take a whole day just getting a video of the building, it was owned originally by the Erie Railroad and it had a ball room, a bar, hotel rooms, an restaurant and it had rooms for the train workers up in the attic/roof area, it would be worth a few hours to film, and I know the owner lol

That area was last stripped mined in the 70s. H e ckxhersville was practically wiped off the race of the earth, there is still a small patch of homes there. The area is known as Irish Valley. My mom grew up there and went to school at St Kierens church and school . You can explore the school and church. It was sold off by the catholic church. The people of the valley built that church. Lots of mines in the area. Please be careful in that area. You could explore the old church and school there in Heckchersville . Lots of old things to explore up and down the valley. There is old tunnel that sits up behind the school where water now flows out of.iys pretty neat Then if your in the area explore Forrestville falls. Quiet serene place with a good swimming hole. It's beautiful. Above the falls is the water reservoir for the area. Very beautiful. Forrestville also had a active. Mine fire for years. You could smell the sulfur fumes driving through the area. They did eventually get the fire out. The area is rich in mining history. There was interest awhile back yo save the station. But it fell through. My uncle Jim could show you alot of cool things in the area. He walks these woods and the area .

The church and school sit back off the main road. There is a beautiful grotto there. The Cemetery I'd interesting to. I'll see if I can find pictures of the church. It's slowly being destroyed. The c a topic diocese sold off the contents of the church. It's still a sweet little church. All of my mom's brothers and sisters but two got married there. There were 10 of them. My 1 uncle Mike 1 aunt and one cousin still live along the road through Hecksherdville. We are know as the Mackeysburg Murphys. My Grandpa died at age 49 of black lung disease. The miners in the area had a rough life but the flourished because of the hard work. If you go up the valley and turn left you head into Buck run. There is a miners tribute in the front of one persons yard.. it's really nice. On the left you will see a yellow gate. That is were the water is for Minersville. If you continue on the road you will find a road called Woodside that takes you to the forrestville falls. As kids we would go b there to swim. The trails are being dug up by four wheelers. I would not go alone. There were mines in the area. So watch out for air holes. If you get off the minersville exit towards the airport there is area to the left where you can drive back and there are many stripped holes filled with water. Again very cool. They left the mining equipment there to fade away. It's easy to get lost back in there. Be careful if you go. Watching the planes is fun to. Anyway enjoyed seeing familiar area. Great video.
