Did you know there is a castle deep in the woods of Nova Scotia? We didn't until recently! You'll definitely need a high clearance vehicle or ATV (or snowmobile!) to get there, but it is an interesting place to see.
Ed Kent, a man from Idaho, built this structure by hand on family land in the woods of Nova Scotia. He made the journey in the summer of each year and stayed until the weather turned poor. He was in his 60s when he started the project in 1999 and continued each year with documentation until about 2008. We read that Ed has since passed away, although there may be some relatives still around. It is likely the castle still sits on private property, and we had read that one of Ed's concerns with the isolated location was the threat of vandals. The castle is beginning to look a little rough, likely due to age and no one up keeping it, but there is evidence of some vandalism as well. If you do visit the castle, or any other place like this, please be respectful. Do not vandalize and please pack out your trash. If you can, consider picking up others' trash as well. Remember, this was someones dream and years of hard work.

I did not know that Ed had passed away. Actually had the pleasure of meeting him for a brief minute when I was with a group and we were hiking in the area. What a shame as it sits in such a great location. Bruce and Otis

We cannot confirm that he did pass away, only that there were unconfirmed reports/rumours of such. If this is wrong, we apologize to his loved ones and those who knew him. It would have been a unique experience speaking with him in person. I was fascinated just by reading his letters to his mentor for the construction. Les

That is called a castle? A dump is more likely.

We don’t have the exact location as we stumbled across it, but it is in the woods in the Wentworth area.
