Thanks for your exploring CCH my Mother was a nurse there for 40 years , She was dedicated and loved her work; I remember my father and would pick her up after her shifts so many changes through the years but the structure was beautiful, the fountain and statue now sits in the cafeteria of the John Stroger hospital, it was in front entrance area the designs the Beaux facade is still nice.

I REMEMBER THE OLD COOK COUNTY HOSPITAL BUILDING. I WAS BORN THERE IN THE LATE 70'S.

Born and raised on the south side in another hospital long gone. County was more than a hospital, it was a place you could go and get help, anytime for almost any reason. No questions, no insurance. The ER was famous all over the US. Some of the top Med school graduates wanted to intern there. I once met a Med school grad from Georgia who had offers from 15 hospitals but only wanted to go to County. It was an institution of aid. Time marches on I guess and things decay, but where are the places taking the place of places like County? Funny thing about Chicago, no matter where you go, you ate still there in spirit.

I did one of my clinical rotation there for surgery, surgery was on the 8th floor! It once was a pretty cool hospital and you sure learned a lot there!

Oh man I didn't think it was possible to still get in here. If I recall there is asbestos in there. Not sure if it's the whole building or certain floors

I was born in 1953. When I was 5 years old I became extremely I'll and almost died. At the time they wanted to rush me to Cook County Hospital, thank God my Dr. said no. They took me to Mercy Hospital. They were going to refuse me, we didn't have insurance at the time. My Dr. told them he would cover the bill. His name was Dr. Bernstein. He saved my life. Back in those days Cook County hospital was horrible

Very grateful to be born in Cook County hospital. Very proud to be born into its history. I can't wait to visit after renovations are complete! It's a very unique feeling watching the urban exploration of it...

It's amazing how quickly nature reclaims everything built by humans when water and the elements are allowed in. The exterior has beautiful architectural details but the interior is roached beyond saving. Still, you can see glimpses of what once was. Thanks for sharing but please be careful in these buildings.

They built a new Cook County Hospital just mere blocks away... its now called Stroger Hospital (named after the late former Cook County President John Stroger).

Snuck in here a few times around the time you posted this but didnt take any videos/pics for some reason. I was worried you guys were gonna forget the auditorium/classroom but Im glad you found it, somewhere up there is a way to the roof but I dont remember exactly how we managed to find it. Cool Vid!

I was born there in 81. I didnt even know it was abandoned.

I was here in 1995 during the Heatwave that took over 700 lives in Chicago. I was visiting the city and became very ill and this is where they took me, I waited and waited and was never seen and left without being seen 😞 I ended up leaving and going to Mount Sinai Hospital where I was seen and treated.

I was born there my whole family was either born or died in that building it’s creepy that they turned it into a hotel so many ppl died there

Myself and two if my siblings were born in this hospital, my Grandmother worked there as an RN for 40 years, and she loved it. She remained friends with many of her colleagues long after she retired.

This building is being completely renovated to it's former glory

Sad to see what was once the best hospital in the Nation vandalized and abandoned. My mother worked there as an R.N. in the 1930's.

The outside is Magnificent!! Interior is Massive!! So sad it was left to decay like this!😢. So many people with no where to live. It could have been used for Some Type of housing!

My Dad spent some time in this hospital building in the arly 80s in the burn unit. Brought back some early childhood memories. I love the architecture on the outside of the building. I was surprised that it still exists. Thought they had knocked it down after building the new Cook County Hospital. Glad its still there.

I was 22 and there thru the 1978 snow storm. They still had old wooden wheel chairs. Then theres the Fantus clinic. Under the bldg are tunnels. I was there for at least cpl wks. That was about the last time I was in Chicago.

Hyatt just converted this beautiful building into a hotel and office complex.

Why are there cuffs chained to the seats in a hospital?!

I've always wondered what it looked like in there. I used to work at Stroger Hospital and would be curious. I'm sure there's rats and stray cats all over that place. For as old as it is, it's actually in pretty good shape. This building dates back to the 1800's.

I remember being in Chicago about 7 years ago, & happen to ride pass this building. I just remember looking at this building ,& saying damn this building is huge, & I just couldn't believe how big it was ,& the details, & structure of it was stunning.

Wow, this hospital looks as big as Charity Hospital in New Orleans.

It was never abandoned, after being owned by cook county it was sold to developers who are renovating it. By the way, it was replaced by Stroger hospital, named after John Stroger but when he needed to be hospitalized he went to a different hospital.

What a shame.Beautiful brick and masonry and architecture....Look at the arched hallways and railings Nice big old rounded two column cast iron steam/hot water radiator at 8:49.....I saw another beautiful radiator at 4:15 earlier in the video and one at 9:47 and a nice low wide one at 13:29.and many convector units...That theater room on the top floor is very interesting and strange,,Wow!....Stupid graffiti...........I noticed some neat machine room and pipes at the end of the video ..Did you guys see the boiler room?

This was the last hospital my father was in before they transferred him to the Cook County TB Sanitarium in 1968. The hospital is now a 4-star Hilton Hotel.

I've just found you guys and will definitely be watching more of your posts ! Apologies from the start for the long post lol I don't usually try to bore the pants off ppl 😉! Well what can I say apart from Wow you guys the opening sequence which I'm thinking was filmed at sunrise (sorry if I'm wrong and it's sunset) was just shot with such beauty,the building from the outside looks so cool ,awesome architecture ! But then you get inside and it took my breath away at how sad and totally destroyed the whole place was,the scrapers made light work of stripping that place,I know it been empty for a while but when you really think it's not all too far back that it was up and running and looking after the lovely ppl of that city! It's funny really in one way when urban explorers go to say abandoned hospitals it make my blood boil to see when it's left with so much equipment that could be sent to countries that are in desperate need of some of these things but then to see how the city well government officials can let a historic place like this get soooo bad also makes me angry I'm sure they could have done things with it even if it were sectioned off into several parts for different things, but sadly it is what it is ,sorry again, my bad for the longest post n rant ever lol but really thanks to both of you ,stay safe in your adventures and keep up the amazing work ,oh an I really hope you start to wear respirators as you just never know what's in the air in these places an as a nurse from the u.k (not that it makes a bloody difference where I'm from lmao 😂) but you don't want to regret or suffer at any point when you get older ,thanks again from lil old me in the u.k (not that old really by the way 😅). ✌🏼️&💙 to you and your family's from me to you! 🇬🇧❤️🇺🇸🙂🤘🏼
