Lost my mom and grandma this year to cancer I'm homeless now everything happens for reason I guess in life but I would love to live here help take care of it
Haunted? Pfffft. Nothing that a little Jesus and holy water can't cure, lol! All jokes aside, the town really is picturesque, though. It saddens me to see so many American architectural gems abandoned.
Wow! Ghost town! I'd be in hog heaven to be able to restore that place! Yeah! I see and talk to dead people! No I'm not crazy! Just aware! Its not the dead people you need to be afraid of! Its the ones that are alive! Just pray for them and they will be on their way! A lil lost and just need some help! Just like a lot of us!
Just knock it down and I'll come in and set up a nice big sub development!!! No PROBLEM! but the state needs to not infringe and try calling it a historical site or whatever bulshit they're going to try to do
Haunted house / fair throughout October, to include a pumpkin patch. Christmas Village late November to December, with lights and a tree farm. Hayrides and mini camps during summer. All spring off most of winter off half of fall. I'd certainly getting to chilling.
We used to go go by here on the hogs all the time. It's not a big mystery! Grounds are absolutely beautiful. It's a sin the town didn't buy it and protect it under the federal government laws. The barn was razed since the video but was never finished. It was a replica of a swiss barn. I hope someone was able to put it on a trailer somehow and move it. If I can find my picture I will post it.
I would be nice to hear - what happened ? Is The DEAL DONE ? Who is The New Owner etc etc ? Surely put This Town on The MAP ! Is there more INFO - Thank You !
And it's not a town. It's a cute little village in the town of moodus ct. It's called Johnsonville village. There is a huge hill across the street from the church/ chapel that I ( and most of the kids in town) used to sled down in the winter. Super nice place.
Here are some of my recollections. As a Kid my Dad Worked at AGC as Head Engineer. He along with His Engineering assistants, Both German immigrants were responsible for a lot of Schmitt's wealth. So i would say exactly he was self made. My Dad and his Employees were largely responsible for his wealth and his ability to his his extravagant buying lifestyle. He very fond of my Dad and saw his Dad's Genius potential and financial benefit to AGC his company, From what I recall He helped him financially get his engineering degree was good to my Dad. But for what ever reasons, He did not for fill all of his financial promises. So years later he left Gaining better employment elsewhere eventually working & retiring At Pratt & Whitney where he was boss of many other engineers. His Friend and assistant stayed on at AGC in the Engineering department in my Fathers role. Schmitt would frequently take them with him on his eccentric antique buying sprees as moving muscle. I'm sure they could tell you some unbelievable stories. They are both sound of mind in their mids 80s and still life long friends and We still consider him an the family as an Uncle. I sure they can enlighten you with some interesting story's.. I can remember touring the village and ferry boat as a kids, y sister and I were shocked seeing life size stuffed mannequin type people figures in the building as well as full size animals and horses. Pretty spooky for a young kids. LOL a cost effective Gold film type heat shield that kept the apollo mission from burning up when entering the atmosphere in those years In his mansion sized house his daughter showed us her world class shell collection that we were told was worth thousands at the time. My Dad and Uncle frequently fished at the lake. . One time bringing buckets of uneatable sucker fish home which were re purposed as fertilizer back then when we planted evergreens along our entire fence line, Among other Aerospace products,My Dad and his team was instrumental in developing a cost effective Gold film type heat shield that kept the Apollo mission from burning up when entering the atmosphere in those years. It was said He amassed millions from the development and sales of this product.
Big problem.
Been there several times including 1 Christmas what happened to the huge paddle river boat that was docked in the small lake? I have several photos of it.
Two years later, it's still for sale! www.msn.com/en-us/money/realestate/nobody-wants-to-buy-this-connecticut-ghost-town-thats-on-sale-for-dollar195-million/ar-BBBzVfK?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntp
I would like to date Michelle Miller if she let me...... But she may not like my political views. Heck never know..... She might say yes and see what develops.
Even if it's bought for 1.9m- If the person intends on restoring it back to a town, it's going to cost 100's of millions to run. You'll have to hire a small police force, fire dept, mayor, etc. You'll need to supply electric, heating etc, for the towns residents and so on. It's not worth it in the end. I would turn it into a tourist site and pay for entry - Or, build 1 giant home on 62 acres..
Bilkionkek, This is why you flip the land by selling property and build as a people. What's hundreds of millions when we spend trillions as consumers? Its called discipline and patients. Kemet(Egypt) wasn't built in a day.
