I'm a nurse and not everyone admitted into an ICU ward will die. It's quite the opposite. With advanced medical techniques and procedures many actually survive. I've been an ICU as a patient and I'm here to say, I'm alive like many others'. There is no need to fear death, we all will face it. Just live your life, be kind and live like there is no tomorrow, because there isn't.

Steve, I died in March from a massive heart attack, they brought me back and now I have stents in my heart, but no need to be scared.. it was very peaceful... There is no death, only a change of worlds...It's the unknown people are scared of... Love the video... Keep up the good work...

What gets me mad is the patient records are unattended and not destroyed. Anyone can open those boxes and get date of birth, social security numbers, addresses etc. Such a shame they let this one close. All those resources, the masks, gloves even the water is being put to waste.

ICUs aren't just for folks about to die. Thats more of a hospice thing. Intensive care units are specialist hospital wards that provide treatment and monitoring for people who are very ill. They're staffed with specially trained healthcare professionals and contain sophisticated monitoring equipment.

Surprised that you didn’t find the morgue. Every hospital has one! FYI , ICU stands for Intensive Care Unit. Not everyone that goes to ICU is dying. Many people survive with the care they receive there. It’s a shame that there are so many countries that don’t have anything close to the quality of the equipment that hospital has and here in this country we have equipment sitting idle and rotting away! I've been in ICU and they told my family I wouldn't survive thru the night. But I did thank's to the doctors and nurses that would not give up. The video was great. Love seeing stuff like that. Keep it up and stay safe.

Abandoned hospitals are really sad and creepy at the same time. For many people, the very last thing they see is that red emergency room sign before they pass away. There's a real valid reason why so many people are afraid of hospitals. It's the last stop.

Steve, May 12th to May 15th2019 I was in an ICU room,then moved to a regular room after I had a Stroke, I was literally given my life for Mothers day, then I beat Cancer in July of 2019, I am very lucky to be alive.

ICU is NOT just for people about to pass away.. It's INTENSIVE CARE UNIT that has saved many people's lives

The second clock was actually used as a timer. It was started when a procedure was started and they could keep track of total time.

ICU is Intensive care unit. Patients need extra care it doesn’t mean that they’re all going to die in this unit.

What a shame. This hospital could easily be revived before getting to crumbled. You wonder why the government would let a place fall flat especially with all that useful good condition equipment. So sad truly.

Okay so this hospital is in my hometown and just to give some info on the hospital. It was closed due to a merger with another local area hospital to make a bigger hospital. A couple years later the hospital property along with 3 nursing homes/rehab facilities and the new hospital that was built from the 2 hospitals from the merger that was owned by the previous company were sold to new companies. The hospital was never used for a covid hospital; it's mainly used for storage by a local nursing home/rehab facility.

That clock that you called the death clock was used for organ transplants because they only have a specific amount of time to get blood flowing through it before tissues start to die. There are other time-sensitive procedures so they would also use that clock for that.

What it looks like to me is that this 2011 abandoned hospital recieved a shipment of safety equipment that could have and maybe should have been sent to an open and operational hospital during the recent Covid19 pandemic 🥺😳 How does this happen that we have nurses and Drs unprotected in some place and gear for ghost Drs in others😳🥺

That X-ray equipment has been there for years, it’s 25 year + old technology even before March 2020. Just looking at the cables, the control panel, the processor etc. Think the masks/PPE was just stored there but the equipment looks 90s or late 80s to me? I trained at a radiographer in the 90s 👍🏻

Hospitals give me the creeps. Active and abandoned. This one is in great shape. Really glad the vandals haven't been there. Should be wearing a mask Steve. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.

Steve, your young so you don't know. I've been in ICU 87 times, most times near death but I'm still here, still suffering through life but enjoying moments when I can. Bless you for showing us these historic places. Oh, it's nurse's who operate the machinery. Doctors rarely know how to do a blood pressure. For future reference, the exray lights you clicked on and off are slow starters. Click on and in a few seconds it comes on. The machine that had tubes could be dialysis or blood suckers that belong in the morgue. I'm sorry I went on so long, but it's my only way to teach by explaining life.

It makes me so sad seeing abandoned places... they hold so much memories and history.

It's crazy that they have left everything especially with COVID still going on.

Dude I am an RN worked in hospitals for 27 years. There is no death clock. There are one use in ORs for correct time.

Seeing this just brought back memories of my mom when she was still living. She had been in icu three times in which the last time she never made it there. She was a stroke patient at the time and passed away in 2019

ICUs aren't just for dying people. It is for anyone who needs close supervision due to their medical status. Oftentimes people who have had organ transplants, cancer surgeries, open heart surgeries, etc go to the ICU until they need less care and can move to a stepdown unit. Many people are in the ICU and survive just fine.

That was an inch worm, that sure is strange how they leave all those things behind, I could really use some of that stuff. 😻

ICU doesn’t always mean death . Just means they need more extensive care

The beeping is probably from the ups Uninterruptible power supply that was on the Avaya telephone system. That was in the room. The pc was probably for programming and the voice mail system. The other beeping was probably from the fire suppression system and or the back up generator needed maintenance. I sometimes miss working on that stuff.

I would say that is a state run hospital in WV that closed down, but was opened back up for any overrun of Covid patients.

At 29:03 the resident files are dated 2021. A couple say April 2021 and August 2021 very clearly.

Wait! So was this building abandoned because of COVID or because the people had no insurance/ funds to keep the hospital running? If it closed in 2011 COVID didn't exist until 2019. Drs use masks and gloves for surgeries all the time! The ones you found doesn't mean they used them for COVID since this building closed in 2011

Very well done video and subject matter. The hospital is video equipped with backup computer hard drives. The alarms you heard are warnings that the system is malfunctioning and that there are breaches in the security content. The computer monitor is for the video. You would need security UN and PW to access, but if you had them you would be able to see the last recordings, which would be super cool.

Hospitals are known for being haunted. We saw things all the time when I was working as a Nurse.I C U is the Intensive Care Unite, these patients needed more care and closer watching. Plenty of people make it out of ICU.

This looks like it was a closed hospital that was in good enough shape so it was readied for a Covid surge. They did it to one here too, it closed 2 years ago but was readied and prepped for Covid.

If they closed down in 2011, then that was 9 years before COVID. Why is it called a COVID hospital?

Thanks for the video Suggestion though Steve, I would make a list of all the hospitals you explore and contact the "health and safety" department for that area and get them to take responability for these items possably get them to Donate some things too poorer countries that are struggling to have even the basic of needs, its sad to see all this wasted items and wasted Power/Electicity. All them Wheelchairs just sat there when people could be using them

ICU, not to be afraid, just a place for intense care needed to for people with severe ailments or from major surgeries performed. I just return home in May2021 from Cedar Sinai Hospital, LA. I was in ICU for 7 weeks after my 3rd open heart surgery of heart valve replacement. THANK GOD! I survived and returned from Heaven after my heart and lungs collapsed in the ICU, and had to be revived 4 times. After I saw the gates of HEAVEN and spoke with Mary to COMFORT me and she did, and finally in the center of the gates was JESUS, and after I spoke with JESUS, he touched me and I returned to the ICU room at Cedar Sinai. It was a peaceful JOY experience to see HEAVEN. Cedar Sinai Hospital was an awesome hospital, very professional and high tech. My surgeon and all others were amazed I woke up from being revived like nothing occurred. Sad to see a recent hospital closed. I heard several in LA closed down. I think St. Vincent Hospital closed as well. God Bless, STAY SAFE!

That one room with skeletons & other decorations. I saw hula hoops etc. likely they employed a recreation/activity coordinator that would decorate for the holiday/season. That room was her supplies etc. however, I do agree, as much as the skelton’s may be for Halloween I doubt the elderly would enjoy the decor.

The one machine you thought on of the tubes had blood was actually a soda pump to pump the syrup to the soda machine

Virtual Dementia Tour is a training materials used to give caregivers an idea of what Dementia/Alzheimer’s residents/patients see and hear on an every day basis. I’m not sure what’s in the bottle though. It could be a ‘prescription bottle prop’. The tour is to get a better understanding of what they go through so you can relate better with them. Hopefully making the caregiver a better more empathetic employee than they were before.

Hi! Like the video.. however,can't believe power is STILL on??! Also, the equipment that was left behind, and the supplies,ie; machines. Gloves,masks,water ...we have so much waste in our country! People can use these supplies?!! Crazy!!!

Icu is Intensive Care Unit - the sickest of the sick but we don’t expect them to die. We work there giving the most intensive care to give them the chance to survive. It’s essentially 1:1 care. Maybe have a little look at some of the equipment you play with too, just to be safe. You weren’t in any danger with the X-ray unless someone had already tampered with it. If you have gaps in your knowledge maybe don’t say ‘this is for x’ - chuck in an edit once you’ve found out what an item is - the huge inaccuracies just tend to scare people and spread misinformation that can kind of make our job harder when someone/their family end up in the ICU

It's amazing how some things are the same from then and hospitals now. I clean OR rooms in an active hospital and a lot of the equipment looks identical.

The Hospital does not seem in a dilapidating state, it is still good as new including the equipment and materials. The place is restorable, it should be configured, make additional business at the hospital wherein it is to create leisure as well as recreation, similar to a mall, yet plenty of personality, the way respective brands makes wonders these days. SMEs General practices............Respectively well coordinated with one another.

I recently found your videos I was in the ICU for weeks I was in a coma I had a brain Aneurysm burst and I was lucky enough to get a second chance at life so it is possible for people to come out of ICU I was really in it twice during my recovery.

This hospital is way to messed up for only being closed down a few years. I can’t even imagine that any COVID patients were in that hospital. To much damage that can only happen over many years of non use. That stuff is just being held there Incase needed for sure. I hope y’all went home and scrubbed really well.

Steve, I slept in the room next to the morgue, as a child. ..... :-D ... in a sleeping bag on the floor lol. Because that was my Aunt's LIVING Room yes. They are morticians. And I was in their house / Funeral Home.

Why do I feel like someone was hoarding that PPE? Kinda pisses me off when so many hospitals were struggling to have enough during the pandemic. I remember people even sewing masks to donate to their local hospitals because there wasn't enough

Shame about all those face masks and other boxed supplies going to waste they could have sent them to other medical places before closing. Only last year we all had so many shortages our own NHS in the UK and we could not protect staff in care homes.

Steve, who told you about the "death clock" in the surgical area? I've never seen/heard of this before. I know in emergency situations, trauma, surgical deaths the doctor will just "pronounce" the patient as having died at say 0830. On regular units, if a patient is a DNR (do not resuscitate) or AND (allow natural death) a nurse will typically find the patient, note the time of death and a doctor comes to officially pronounce the patient. I've near of the death clock - anyone, anyone? I would love to explore an abandoned hospital. Working in nursing for ages and ages hospitals become a second home, day and night - would be interesting to experience a hospital that's empty and silent. Great video - love your work! More hospitals please ✌ Side note: Cuba is full of urban decay that will shock and surprise you...some building look bombed out but the insides are full of beautiful marble, high ceilings and interesting details. Very interesting place to explore.

I've worked in the OR for long time. We have never called the clock the "death" clock. Lol. We usually have to use a timer for certain procedures with connecting blood vessels, not "death" clock. That's why there is usually 2 clocks, so one can be set to timer.

You said it’s been abandoned since 2011, but was used for COVID which would’ve been in 2020, than when you went into the basement, there was boxes labeled from 2014…I doubt this hospital was used for COVID

The Intensive Care Unit is not just for patients on the verge of death Many patients there are recovering from major surgery, such as open heart, organ replacement, removal of cancerous tumors, extreme cases of pneumonia, and so forth. Please don't think it's just for near death patients. Yes, some pass away here, but more pass away on the regular floors. The ICU is exactly what it says--patients here need a higher level of care than in other places in a hospital--more intensive care.
