Abandoned Daytona Beach Hospital at 1 AM - Closed Since Hurricane! 

This video was originally uploaded in March but we were forced to take it down due to some behind the scenes issues. Since we're busy traveling, we thought it would be a good time to post this one again. This is a re-upload with the only change being the removal of the ad.

The building is obviously perfectly salvageable. Someone has just enjoyed a huge insurance payout and decided it's best to just take it and run.

Can we just take a second to appreciate the aesthetic of all of the proper people's videos? They're all so satisfying and beautiful to watch.

The thing that you called a “Zamboni” is a vehicle simulator. You were in the rehab section of the hospital and this thing is used to help people practice getting into and out of a vehicle after whatever has happened to them. #NurseLife

I don’t understand why they didn’t reopen? It’s not like it’s trashed or has tons of water damage. It could at least be leased out to someone who would use the building! I hate how much is going to waste.

I know since water could have gone everywhere, it's a safety hasard. But let's be honest: a LOT of stuff could have been salvaged, like for example the wheelchairs, the hospital beds, medical equipment which is still wrapped up and never used, heck even parts of the Xray machines could have been salvaged. I'm pretty sure some computers were still left in there. And please don't pull out the "bruh its for insurance" card, because it doesn't take much effort nor money to take the wheelchairs out and reuse them, or unplug a computer to transfer it to the new hospital.

Other than the boarded up windows, I didn't really notice any hurricane damage.

I grew up down the street from this hospital and literally none of our area was damaged badly enough to say it’s unsalvageable. It’s cool seeing it on RU-vid though

The bottles you were shaking near the beginning of the video are bacterial detection testing culture bottles to be used with a special "BacT" incubator which monitors the bottles for any growth. I work in a blood lab for the red cross and we inoculate the bottles with samples taken from apheresis platelet products.

In Panama City, Florida, our mall sits abandoned after damages from Hurricane Michael. Definitely worth checking out.

that part about huddle at 1 pm on the white board is funny because my mother used to work at one of their locations and theyre super christian so the huddle usually entails a prayer circle

my family and i were in Daytona just before the hurricane. our hotel made us leave because they were closing down. that was the longest drive home to KY......took almost 30 hours to drive home due to the evacuation traffic.....

I am shocked that there was not much visible mold. The walls and the ceiling must be loaded with the stuff. Double that for how scrappers have not completely ripped up the walls and stiped this place clean.

It breaks my heart seeing places like this just demolished. I know the property in that area is really valuable on its own, it's just sad to see these places destroyed.

Because of HIPPA the hospital owner's probably took the computers out. That is my guess. That's also what happened to the servers. I know some tech's who would rather die than leave a server behind. Those things are EXPENSIVE, and the amount of data stored on them is even more valuable. Also, thanks for visiting my home state.

I can't find any articles online that mention if they salvaged beds, wheelchairs, and any other medical equipment (OR lights, xray and other expensive imaging machines, etc) before demolishing the place.

Many people are asking why what looks like a perfectly fine building is being torn down. There are several reasons: First of all, if there was water damage, then there will be problems with MOLD. Mold in Flori-duh is a serious issue, especially in a hospital (!), and mold is an expensive problem. Second, the reporting on this states that at least one external wall was compromised, meaning that the structural stability of the building is in question and this would require quite a bit of money to fix. Third, this building was built around 1981, and structures built in Flori-duh between about 1970 and 1992 are NOTORIOUS for shoddy construction. There was a building boom going on in the sunshine state, and construction was done as quickly and cheaply as possible. Building inspectors were literally bribed thousands of dollars to look the other way! Then in 1992 came Hurricane Andrew, which hit south of Miami and wiped out thousands of homes that should have been able to come through the storm with minimal damage....And suddenly building codes in the state became far more stringent, and building inspectors who accepted bribes were sent to jail! This building was probably falling down already, so for all these reasons they decided to take the insurance payout, knock it down, and sell the valuable land to developers.

At 15:40 the operating room looks exactly the way it does in movies & TV. I like knowing Hollywood gets that one really true to life.

The company I work for has done electrical work for many types of businesses and institutions like hospitals. Many many many times the company or institution will do a cost analysis. What will it cost to remodel, rebuild, add an addition, or relocate to a new location with new equipment. And almost every single time it is cheaper to relocate to a new location with new equipment. The cost to inventory, move, store, then reinstall old equipment offsets the cost of doing a new one. So yes unfortunately most of the equipment left in the hospital will be recycled or trashed and not donated, but when it cost more to donate it to an needed area. What business in its right mind would. Cut its losses and move on. It’s the nature of the beast.

I'm just kidding. Actually I dunno how you guys do this without being really freaked out; someone could be in that building somewhere, waiting to grab an unsuspecting vlogger. 😄 This exploration would test my mettle, no doubt.

Usually if a hospital gets water damage and starts getting mold or damages then they’ll shut it down due to it not being safe for patients. Most likely water damage is what took this hospital out of business.

I used to work at this hospital, I can give you a little insight. At 2:05 that was actually the emergency department and the main nurses station where all the drawers are open. At 2:58 your picking up a blood culture specimen bottle safe and sterile as the cap was on the top and unused. 15:20 they would do very minimal surgeries at this location s this was the small hospital they kept open for beach-side people, it was the equivalent of a urgent care level of acuity. 18:50 that is the dialysis / respiratory therapy supply carts. Your escape route was my shortcut to the Dunkin next door when I was sneaking out while not on break.
