So sad to see the state of this once iconic store. Used to love the sweeping grand central staircase with its brass rail before it was ripped out in the 80s. There used to be a wonderful food hall in the basement. And a book store on the top floor. Not forgetting the huge wood and brass ceiling fans. Yeah, I'm going back to the 60s & 70s. It was sad enough to see it being 'modernised' over the decades. But this is heartbreaking. 😢
@@AngelFoil I agree so very, very sad😞 I worked on the Knitting Wool dept , a lovely team of female ‘members’ as we were all called. Loved to shop there especially the fabric dept, shoes and handbags. Happy days💖
I worked here between 1994-2011 and it was a joy, so so sad to see it like this. We were a family. It’s been the heart of Wolverhampton for so long. This video breaks my heart.
This bought back a load of memories. The shoe department with a wooden rocking horse in the child section. The toy department and food hall in the basement. My mother had a dishwasher in the 70's and Beatties was the only place she could get dishwasher detergent, salt & rinse aid from, today everywhere sells it. Thanks for the memories. 👍
My wife shopped there for many years from when we first moved to the area in 1970, there was nothing you couldn't buy from Beatties. All the children clothes and shoes were purchased from there when they were young including all their school clothes. I even bought a Suffolk 4 stroke motor mower in the sale in 1972 it cost me just under £28.00
Hi Jordan, no Matt this time, used to eat in the cafeteria when it was Beatties yonks ago, then they sold out to House of Fraser, sad to see it like this, but nothing stays the same does it, good video, thanks for sharing
Such a shame that it used to be a decent department store that once served Wolverhampton. Very sad to see how it looks and is likely to be demolished or converted into flats.
Excellent video strange that the water is pouring down and the lights are still on....Thank you for shooting this. This footage is a great for history and posterity.
Of course, we were members, not employees, remember going to this store on a training day working for Beatties way back when. I was based at the Birkenhead store, which sadly, is about to begin demolition, crazy!
