I bought this 1973 Austin 1300 from eBay, it drove into the barn where it sits now 40 years ago and I want to see if it'll drive out. Wait till you see the car behind it that was left outside!

I stopped at 17 minutes in - the outcome of this video was obvious (to me) the moment we saw the internal rust through the engine oil filler! At least other RU-vidrs actually take on viable projects they know can be turned round in slow managed stages and film the progress. Not 2 hours of "Can I get it to Run" when the answer is no - it needs a rebuild quite clearly at 17 mins. I'm sure it's great entertainment for those in the comments who are casual observers of the classics world, while people who actually own or have owned these classics in recent times know what must be done. This needed to be a shorter more succinct video otherwise it drags it out unnecessarily.

The amount of effort you put into this one, is insane. the 2 back and forth trips to Wales is probably 20 hours of driving, let alone the battle of reviving a car that died 40 years ago, plus filming and editing on top. I'm getting dizzy just thinking about it. Your a machine.

It wasn`t free either (even if it ought to have been) , - all for our entertainment .In all fairness, I'm sure ben knew what he was getting into, even after one look at the E-Bay pics, you just knew that was what it was going to be like underneath and the engine was bound to be siezed solid ..

Then one that's been uncovered from the shrubbery is a 1300 GT !! Only the GT had that beautiful steering wheel, not only that, if it is a genuine GT the engine block alone is worth a fortune as its the one that can bored the biggest and if I remember correctly it has an extra crankshaft journal but don't hold me to that, but that engine and head if the casting number is 12G940 is worth a fortune and is soon rare now, a rare engine builders dream 👌

I had one of these -my first car second hand on a J plate in1982, loved it! despite the rotten sills that my Dad welded and the suspension knuckle joints which needed the hydro suspension deflating to replace-good memories though.

Hi Ben,in Canada those car were called austin AMERICA,Long time ago I did own a 1974 mini with a 1275 cc motor with two carburators, it was very fast.Thank you Ben and keep the good work.

I had one of these (well Austin 1100) when I first started driving back in the late 80s. It was in really good condition back then. It drove like a dream with the hydro elastic suspension. I was an old car when I had it so it stood out back then. If only we would have kept and maintained some of the old cars I had over the years...

Hey Ben, my gut feeling at the start of this video was it would be too far gone. They were notorious rust buckets anyway and with 40 years left in a damp barn we can see the result. Onwards and upwards!

M when you opened the boot, that plastic container on the left was exactly the same as ours which we used as out biscuit box ( digestives & rich tea ) back in 1983. Only ever opened when Corrie came on every Mon, Wed & Friday evenings

I had my first driving lessons with BSM in 1980 who were using Austins at the time , but I took my test in a mini metro, both such a simple car to drive.

Had me in stitches when the backend was way to the side of the car. I was thinking to myself, why not get the engine out and check the underside.. All those days wasted on trying that engine when the backend was the way it is.. Great video.. let’s see what you got with this one.

26:27 To record you endoscope screen you need to dial the exposure down on the camera , the surroundings will be dark but the camera will focus on the screen .

First company I worked for, the pool car was a Fred flintstone style Austin 1300GT, it even had the hole in the floor to put your legs down and run.

The old Montgomeryshire EP. My dad had many many cars over the years all EP . His first a 1960 Austin mini. NEP smoke grey. Then Swansea changed things and he was no longer able to get EP so was not a happy bunny. That car mind you was not one of his!!😅😅

Try to put a mixture of ATF and Acetone in the cyl.. wait 3 or 4 days then the cylinders are free

a great try , all in one viewing , my parents owned six morris or austins , back in the seventies , all died of rust ! they were rusting badly in five or six years ! when they were good , they were great , the riley and 1300 gt were nearly mini cooper engines !

Quick one for anyone who remembers these, there were a few different versions if I remember, was there not a similar version that had the Wolsley badge? and as far as this particular motor, was it still Austin or had the destroyers of British Cars - BLMC sunk their fangs into them at this point? I remember my dad walking me to school and we would play "spot the car" and it must have been around that era that once motors branded as BMC began appearing as BLMC and the terrible Leyland began to appear. We used to have an old Austin van, it was on a B reg - I think 1965, probably an A35 - pop out indicators, crank handle starter.....

Bet the MoT failure in 1983 would have been for that rear subframe starting to fall out. They were know for it (very sadly). Otherwise awesome cars and I’d love to drive one one day! BTW why are most of the survivors the Princess version? Probably never driven and kept in garages?

I understand that you can look past years of dirt, some rust, flat tyres etc. But within 30seconds of seeing that, you could see it was well past bring back. Im surprised you even spent as long as you did on it. You are extremely good at what you, but that was clearly too far gone. Better luck with the next one.
