My sister came in the room and she started laughing at me sitting here with my jaw dropped and saying oh my goodness..... I've always wanted a Grand National.....😮. There's a small fortune in that awesome junk yard.... Thanks Silas for sharing.
That silver Grand National is an 82. FIRST and rarest year made. THEY ONLY MADE 215 OF THEM! That 1st one shown is an 86. First year for the intercooled turbo. Small fortune in that yard!!!!
Thanks for taking us along on this adventure. Hope they are able to save at least 90% of the ones worth saving. In a situation like this always hope someone with the $ has the ability to swoop in and get them all
Who would be foolish enough to crush Grand Nationals when they would bring so much more as rebuilds? Okay, Silas, you got me. LOL - I could have just deleted my post but added to it instead. It would be interesting to hear what those cars sold for and if they were rescued in the end.
Wow thanks for doing all that scouting about the elms. I like the Riviera boat tails myself and if someone is looking for an inexpensive collectable to restore that will become very valuable the '71 is key to the best returns.
@AdventuresMadeFromScratch 15:48 Wow that’s a pretty cool in period set of Gotti wheels on that 86 Grand National. That’s a crazy amount of Grand Nationals and Turbo Buick’s in one spot! I counted at least 2 or possibly 3 1982 Grand National’s. They only made 215 of them.
"when was the last time you saw a grand national with a tree wrapped around it?" Unfortunately I think a few of them ended up that way or rather the grand national was wrapped around the tree....
Believe it or not I've seen 2 Grand Nationals that had gone off of the road within 3 years of each other.....one of them I actually helped pull out with my dad's truck when I was in high school the other one had gone over arise at high-speed went airborne and wrapped around a tree in a way that you wouldn't normally expect.......the car went nose-up vertically and looked like a cartoon car trying to climb or hug the medium sized eucalyptus.....the left and right tires were almost touching tread to tread..as there were too many emergency vehicles on the scene that night who knows if the driver was OK or not. But I always wondered if it was the same one I had pulled out of the ditch 3 years prior? Probably not.🤷♂️💁♂️
The Turbo Buicks all need pulled out of there. Two of those, that I saw, were '82 GNs. Worth thousands sitting there as is, even just as parts cars. Looks like two '86 GNs that I see, too, and a '85 WH1 T-Type. All money. The rear axles alone, as they sit, are $1500 all day long. The white Trans Am is an '84 15th-Anniversary. Better pull that one out of there, too. '68 Firebird needs pulled, the Riviera boat tail needs saved as well.
I was watching this with my grandson who just turned twelve and he wants to know if he can work with you next summer. He loves 1960s and 1970s the big boat cars. His big dream is to build his own car.
I love your videos and i hate them at the same time!I don’t really hate them,I’m a car freak from birth, and seeing all those old units and not having the means or room to get more really teases the shit out of me.good job anyhow.
I feel right at home watching this video. I grew up around junk yards. Im 42 and my dad use to buy Camaro's trans ams buick regals with turbos firebirds all kinds of hotrods from tidewater auctions in Chesapeake v.a. i would clean them and help fix them and he would sell them at his used car lot.. I love and miss those days
I owned a LeSabre TType, I really liked it, the doors were so long though, hard to get in and out in parking lots. Before that I had a Skylark TType, a 1984 I bought new. The other car I considered was a Fiero, too small. The dealership I worked at had me do all the pre delivery prep on all the Regal coupes it got in, I did the prep on 3 GNXs, I got a picture of all three of them together. Fun times. The prep dept manager knew he could trust me to not wrap one around a phone pole.
Why don’t they have a “no reserve” auction? They’ll get more than scrap prices for most of those cars. A lot of them are definitely worth saving for restoring, and the ones that’s aren’t look like good parts cars.
Nice walk through the old cars. The Grand Nationals would be a sweet investment, buy the works and start restoring. A small fortune in very desirable cars.
What a yard...I would all but sell my children to have a gran national! Closest I'll ever get is a hot wheels LOL! It breaks my heart to know they could be crushed.
1:40 I use to have one of those back in the 80's, also got a wrecked one & put the entire engine transmission & interior on my 1979 Regal which was also a rare edition model with the 2 tone paintjob & blacked out trim ,lights grille & the Buick birds on the fenders ....that car was nice & it ended up being exported but still on the road, I want to buy it back
Loving all these! My first car was a 74 Camaro, my sister had a 73 firebird, my lil bro had the Trans Am, the smokey and the bandit. Then he had a grand national. My two big brothers had a 68 charger, and a 72 z28 Camaro. Then the oldest got a 75 rally sport Camaro. Then he got married. My other older bro had a silver anniversary Corvette and a 59 Chevy Apache then married. I had a 69 stingray, 79 280zx, and a 90 240z! Then married! Sorry, but i love to share my fams love of classic cars! We were very blessed, we all had jobs to buy what we wanted, with no objections from the parents! Great content guys. New sub from Alabama ❤️🇺🇲💙
I dont kno why people wait so long and instead of crushing them old cars ...have a big aution and sell em. And then crush watever u have left...there is far and few of them left and will never be made again...give people a chance to buy em instead of crushing them
I was at an auto salvage yard probate auction 2 years ago and they had 5 or 6 Grand Nationals and the cheapest one that was wrecked and unrepairable sold for $1,500, the engine was uncovered and that was the only thing ahead of the crushed in firewall. The most complete non running, no title car sold for over $11k
iIn the early seventies, I worked in Wamego at a place that manufactured snow plows and other equipment for Caterpillar. We had Yale, Towmotors, Hysters, Clarks and more than I can remember. We called them all Hysters.
They will never bring full value because they definitely will have a salvage title if any at all ,add in the cost of restoring it if you don’t do it yourself and you can most likely buy a decent one
So strange seeing all those Ford trucks with no rust on the beds. Up here in Minnesota, they're all rusted within a few years. My 2005 Ranger has rust holes in the cab side of the bed that I bet you could drop a basketball through. Great video, Silas...as always.
......my 2005 Ranger ( which I bought new ) has less than 85K miles on the odometer ..... and still has " new car smell " ....... Besides regular oil and other fluid changes - I have only put a new battery and four new tires since I have owned it .
I would love to have that Rivera. When I was a kid my elderly neighbor had a 73 Rivera. He drove to the store & Doctors office that was it and he had his son keep it spotless for him. The son is now my age and still has the car at his dads house. He keeps a soft dust cover on it and when its outside it still sparkles like the day it was made. He has it all chromed up under the hood with a cam and Edlebrock set up in it. He also had problems with the holley carb he had on it.
the second buick GNat is the pace car edition 1981 gray with red graphics(look it up)all of them have the word "BUICK" on rear quarter panel very rare car the "GRAN NATIONAL" logo was added some time during its life it only had the "GRAND NATIONAL SWIRL" on front fenders
Didn't show GNXs, Grand Nationals aren't the same, and many more were built. The 547 GNXs were super special, you wont find those rotting away in a junkyard.
@@jimmoravec1326 same as me. Unc had garage in 60s and there were 3. 66. SS CHEV THERE on e hit in post latch but repairable. I cut the good parts outa. another Chevy and kept eye on it gathering parts unc said I could have SS. When I was 15. Of course momforbid me from getting it when she found out and car got burnt and vandalized later that year... yuck
Awesome video, I remember way back when one of my teachers bought a bran new Buick Gran national, he then moved away, also at the same time, one of my classmates also bought a new 80s, 4 or 5 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme, only thing that car I believe had a diesel engine, 🤯😱, it was a nice moroon color, great video more please, more. 😉👍
If you are a 70 and 80s GM lover you would be crying to see those cars crushed. But glad to hear most will be saved. I always liked the GSX Buicks. Not that knowledgeable about them, but I was thinking like 69 or 70 had a 455 Stage III with an air induction hood. Thanks for sharing your time and adventures. Peace
Man GM happy place Grand national/ regal T some that looks almost like those are 20k now as is TA s Camino 70 chevelle 😃 eBay parts out the wazzoo . Gold mine.
That was interesting, thanks for filming it! LOADS of collectable and rare stuff there - obviously the Grand Nationals, but also the CRX, the Corvettes, etc. Even the 80ies Toyota on the crush pile. Would love to get my hands on some of it. I also have an appreciation of the more modern stuff - not being in the US, there are a lot of cars I'd love to mess around with - anything Panther platform, some of the larger engine Jeeps. Heck I'd spend a couple of days in that yard seeing what would start and run.
Friend of my father's had a salvage yard. The plant wanted the 10 acres they paid up with the stipulation crush all the vehicles in a short period of time. They took a bulldozer and crushed them and off to the scrap they went.
