Hey Steve it's 10:05 pm, I'm so tired so I'll catch this video tomorrow. I hope you have a great night.? I'm sorry I can't watch the premiere tonight stay safe.❤😎
I bet when Mary was alive the house was spotless. I can imagine her sitting in one of those chairs and crocheting with her yarn. Definitely a sense of peace in that house. I really like the layout. It's so sad to see what's left after someone lives their whole life. Thank you for taking us with you, Steve. I like Colin too 😄. Can't wait to see your next video. Sincerely, Carly 💙
Most elderly people do love things they have as they have memories of what loved ones in this present time of their life has given them, or someone they have lost along the way. Sometimes children catch on (if they have children) what and who things belonged to and the story may be behind it, but often it goes unknown and only the older person knows the history. So often we must ask older members in our family about any items that have a special memory to them and do it from time to time, as there could be many things in the home they think about and yet do not share their thoughts with anyone?. So in this day when something holds happens, one can know if it is something with family ties or an item that does not have any meaning so that we would show respect for those items they loved and maybe we could hand down to our own family one day in the same way>? Often they would be pleased someone is interested in hearing about it? 'When they do not have children/grandchildren, often they may or may not have a dear friend they can trust to love the items, and maybe even the home, and that is not good as if they do not, it will most likely be lost in some way. Then it may well all be sold at auction by the State if not left to just rot and all memories and history are gone. Sometimes items they may have are a one of a kind brought from another country (often the country their family generations before, brought with them) and handed down to them. So nice you are a young person who does care.
My brother and I sold my parents house ASAP luckily to friend. To someone to love and enjoy it. She didn't give it time to decay. It was before pandemic and hurricane Ida. I can die knowing their house is still loved.
@@carolweaver3269 you are absolutely right. Everyone should sit down with our elders and listen, they have many interesting stories to tell . Thank you ma'am.
Thank you for saying that. This is why I made sure that my beloved father’s things went to people who would get use out of them and/or take care of them, in the case of art.
RCA Victor, now just RCA (Radio Corporation of America), is a recording and audio visual company. They also make electronics. The crystal balls in the basement are paper weights. My mom had some in her office.
Please understand last names and dates have been removed to protect the privacy of the surviving family. Locations were also removed. I do not know why the surviving family has left the house abandoned. Mary, 94, wife of the late Elmer, died Friday morning in 2010 at a Rehabilitation Center. Born in 1916, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Elizabeth.... In 1935, she was united in marriage to Elmer, who died in 1983. Prior to her retirement she was employed as a supervisor in the laundry department of a Hospital. Mary was an avid gardener, enjoyed crocheting, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially Jenna and Molly, who brought her great joy in her final years. Surviving is a son, Leon and his wife, Margaret and a daughter, Mary and her husband, William; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Charles and Douglas; a brother, Walter; and a sister, Anna.
Really wonder what happened to all of them that made them abandon this place. It’s so sad to know she had to bury two of her sons. My HR manager just had to bury her 28 year old daughter and needed almost two months off to be functional again at work. Just so sad and hard to go through that.
@@limlianhui9462 I can only guess the family took the things they truly wanted and left the rest. The land is worth more then the two houses together so it will be sold off to a corporation and the houses will be bulldozed when the land is cleared for construction.
Steve, that was not a animal trap, it was a crate for dogs usually. I am old so i notice differt things than you do. You were looking at the stereo player as i was looking on top of the wood burning stove. The vase there was very old. Looked like milk glass which was in the 1920s. Now that is worth something. Thanks for bringing us along!
There may not be anyone left alive in her family, believe it or not. I have a neighbor who is 96 and has out lived all 3 of the kids and has only one grand son living. How sad is that? Life, accidents, disease. One left.
Hopefully, the one grandson is showing an interest and love for the family heirlooms. He will be the only one who could be left everything, and it could happen sooner than we think? She may live to be over 100 yrs old, but no one knows. Often if the state makes you have everything in a will left to you several years before they could lose it all> Good to check it out and try to talk with them about it and help them do a will and put them as a person in charge of all of this, and maybe even the health care proxy person? it may in the end if they understand why they may feel more relieved of the burdens of wondering what will happen? The only thing they may worry about is being put out of their home before they pass? (it can be hard to know what will happen, but as long as they continue on as is, they should be alright, but no one can promise anything. So one should not make promises they cannot keep either. But somehow letting them know that is not the purpose of wanting this done to have anything change at all bt knowing the day will come and in this way it can be with someone who does care. Often they do not know State laws they just think family members automatically can have it all. ) Things like that may be a hurdle to get them to do anything. Sometimes they think people want to take all away and need to understand the true meaning of wanting them to do it. If one goes to a nursing home often they will sell everything and use that money first and then they go on Medicaid if that is something they have in that State. Often if someone's name has been on it for a length of tie it would end it, but a lawyer would know for each State how it would work in those various circumstances.
Such a beautiful old farmhouse but what a shame that people have gone in and trashed everything ... and I love the new mic Steve - the audio is so clear - keep using it 👍
Nice videio Steve! Being a senior citizen (trust me age is just a number) RCA Victor is a brand name and in the day they produced records and record players, and stereos. There are quite a few of us baby boomers that watch youtube than you know. Keep up the great work.!!
I just lost my grandma in Dec. Can’t imagine letting her beloved home go to rot, especially with so many old beautiful things around. Would’ve rented a storage unit to keep everything.
I like this episode,it gives me chilled. A place once you called home, suddenly all the memories just left behind. Your right Steve that someday that house need to rebuild to restore for a new family to live there. Such as beautiful place
13:41 RCA Victor. Never heard of him. Bwhahahahahaha oh my I hurt my sides. That was funny. That disc is a demo disc to demonstrate the sound quality of an RCA Victor stereo record player. They dont teach much civics in school these days, do they.
I came in to see the RCA Victor comments. The second time I cracked up and was waiting for Decca on the Bing Crosby to be the next victim. Sorry Steve, let us snicker at the small things mate 👍
RCA Victor is a brand name. Vintage radios, record players, TV's and record recording. Sometimes when you see holes thru the concrete walls of a basement there was previously a cistern there for gathering rain water before they had water service. Some people would knock thru the wall to extend their basement area once they had city water supply brought to the house.
Loved this place!!! Sooo cute, warm , cozy & homey!!! Such a sweet & comfortable their life must have been! Sad that the grandchildren don’t come in for momentos & the pictures... I hate to see those lost forever😞 It would make Mary sooo very sad to see what vandals have done to her precious little house & how they disrespected her precious, personal items😔 it makes me sad that vandals find joy in destroying other peoples property 😞 I would love to have the time to go through all of these priceless things & see what could possibly be saved!!! The wooden furniture was epic & priceless! What sentimental value this house holds😍 thank you for sharing this wonderful property Steve, I loved it ❤️
It is so sad to see everything left behind...I’ll never understand why kids today don’t want their parents things...I wish I had more of my parents things😔😢💔
They're things. You have your memories and they are sacred moreso than stuff. That's how I like to consider it. I didn't want my grandparents things, I treasure the idiosyncrasies of my parts in their lives 🐨🦘💖
to each their own.. as for me im taking my mother/father/grandparent stuff once they pass. grandparents have a authentic german christmas tree ill hang onto for life. military medals are somthing to keep too. some things are just too precious to part ways with..
There's only so much stuff anyone can keep. If the children had houses that were fully furnished, they wouldn't have room to keep any of this. Everyone has personal opinions about the value of hand-me-downs. The larger the quantity of stuff the less value each item has. At some point you just have stop memorializing and leave some of it behind.
This video is giving so much bittersweet nostalgia. Made me think of when I was a little kid in the 90s...I was always going to my elderly relatives' homes to visit and some of their houses were a lot like this one. Similar decor, similar items in the home. This place must have been so beautiful and cozy when the grandma lived there.
Great Find. I miss my Grandma! All those memories! I wish someone in her family would have taken better care of her stuff. That is priceless! Thank you for letting us enjoy a piece of history with you!
When elders move into geriatrics facilities, their property becomes property of the State if quality of care changes from assisted to dependent. So so sad......
In NYS one must be sure the parents would place their home (five years before anything happened to the parents at least) and leave it to someone they would trust to take care of it and do the right thing depending on circumstances. If it has not been done during this space of time before something happened, the state will take it. It must be given to someone just in case this kind of day comes.
What an amazing time capsule. Just am always amazed that the personal affects and pictures are left. It would be nice if the home was remodeled and lived in again. It seems like this home was very loved by the owner.
This one hurt , I loved seeing it all but I felt pain and sadness . Thank you for your time and consideration on these homes and lives of what must been wonderful people.
Hi Steve, hope you are staying safe, this house is an absolute gorgeous find, when you were talking about why the kids haven't taken care of the house, it came to mind that maybe they were so beloved by them that they just wanted to keep their memory alive by leaving it the way it was. or you could be right about the tax thing, sometime it happens, the state does take it for taxes. Anyway loved this explore it is still a beautiful house.
Steve, I love your content and the respect you show for the places you visit, but... you MUST make an effort to educate yourself on 19th and 20th century history and antiques. Give yourself the gift of authority, Steve. When you do that, you will take yourself to the next level in your endeavors.
Enjoyed this so much! The vinyls! The crochet! The Mansfield reminds me of one my grandpa had-it was to cut the camera film that came out of the camera roll into smaller sections so you could develop it in the trays in a darkroom.
Great find Steve ,so sad to see all left behind, but the house was someone’s memories an happiness,an sadness like ours is .Mary would have kept the home looking beautiful, such a shame ,thank you for taking us around with you Steve much love Ann uk xx
Loving the new microphone. Love watching your videos! You are very respectful that the place used to be someone’s home. I love it when you have the back history on the places you explore. You always keep things interesting. We get to see these places through your eyes and we thank you for sharing your experiences with us. You go to places that we would never get the chance to go to. Stay safe and may God bless you as you Abel and explore more places.
The new mic is working well. Great to see private mail not being opened... love watching these videos. I have always wanted to do the exploring but I am enjoying watching you. Thanks or. Not going too fast and asking for our opinions. Much appreciated.
Glad to see this house is still standing. This is my “white whale” as far as mystery is concerned. I’ve pieced together as much as I can from the research I’ve done on this place, and still may never find out why her family left it to rot. It has been for sale for the past two years, but wondered why it sat vacant so many years! Seems bizarre no family ever took the pictures out. If anyone knows the whole story, please message me. Mary’s story and house has haunted me ever since I saw it the first time on dark exploitation films!
Your videos always makes me cherish the ones around me .. other then things.. things will be left behind.. I can just imagine how hard these people worked to get these homes and cars .. not spending enough time with family to the point they don’t have anybody to take there things .. just sad ..memories are priceless
It's nice to meet you, Colin.I collect 1970s to 90s tabloids and magazines, and memorbilia. I'm placing an order for some 80s YM magazines soon, also the tabloid, weekly world news
This was an awseme find. Brought up memories of spending time at my grandma's. Sad that people have to toss abandoned properties and do damage and just not go in and enjoy it for what it is.
Your sound is great! Had to LOL on your comment on RCA Victor. So many things inside I have. The rocking chair, the Tupperware measuring cups, the orange chairs, the spice rack (which is worth some money). The wallpaper in the cupboards is the same my brother had in one of his homes. And the Christmas cassette I have on CD. I'm sure those "records" are worth something also. Loved this video, great job! And the Last Supper picture looks the same as one my mother painted years ago. Wondering if it was a paint by number on the wall.
I saw earlier footage a while back. So sad to see earlier footage when it was soooo beautiful and so clean! Shame on whom ever trashed this place. This was a beautiful dream home once.
Wonder if one of the children lived on the land in that other house - some families make their own little neighborhood, or used to in the country. Especially if they had a large acreage.
This was a really good explorer !! Can you just imagine all the happy times that were had in that old house !!! This really is the Time capsule of somebody's life !!! 💯🇺🇸🗽🦅
OMG! I've got the exact same cat cookie jar!!! (21:42) It was my grandma's, who gave it to my mother, who passed it on to me! My grandma got it around 1948!
This is another amazing house with so much stuff in and it I cannotit's amazing the things you collect in the years that people don't let go upgreat job rolling and his companion love those sweatshirts God bless you
