I love watching your videos because you are such intelligent, respectful gentlemen. You appreciate the beauty of the places you explore and you treat them with awe and wonder. Thank you so much!
Linda Ackerman Hope you are well after the serious weather Texas has suffered, (Consider me - your Sister from Tennessee, we have always kept an eye on Texas!) "T for Texas" 🎶
Leslie, my dear friend, ONLY YOU could view a fecal-covered, broken organ in an abandoned centuries -old church and say "it's covered in bird poop but it's still beautiful!" You are definitely one of a kind!! And may I agree 100% ..... Builders and specialized craftsman in general were certainly skilled! The time it must've taken to do this....amazing! And what kind of church would have skills and such IN the floors!? That place is a bit creepier than others I've seen you go into. Disquieting. Be well and safe travels.
It's an old Roman Catholic Cathedral. The crypt had originally contained the preserved remains of previous Bishops. The skull shaped glyphs indicate burials.
I grew up Catholic while going to a Lutheran school, got married in a Presbyterian Church, and I've been to services at Lutheran, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, Episcopalian, and non-denominational churches, and honestly, they're all similar enough that if I wasn't paying attention to Communion, and maybe on my phone for the rest... (okay, so Catholics have more holy water and incense and processionals and things), I'd be hard-pressed to tell you which was which, except for Baptist. Also, I wouldn't be on my phone during Mass, because it's rude, but anything for an example =P.
It is too small to be a cathedral and it did not appear to have a place for the Bishop's "throne". The term cathedral comes from the "throne" itself; "cathedra" in Latin means seat or chair (in this case the chair of the bishop). There is almost always just one cathedral in a Diocese and it is almost always a large church in a large city. Some dioceses have a "pro cathedral" or a second church for a bishop if the diocese is really large and he must spend time in both areas of the diocese--but these are rare exceptions. The little room behind the altar area was the sacristy where the church linens and the clergy vestments and vessels / candles, etc. were kept. You could see the remainder of the large "cupboard" which had long drawers to place church linens in. I doubt any of the tombs were the graves of bishops. It is more likely that they were tombs of families who helped found or build the church. The first stained glass window appeared to be of St. Francis of Assisi and the second--not completely seen--may be of the Blessed Mother. What ever happened to this parish church that it was abandoned? A new building somewhere else that removed and used the bells, crucifix, statues, etc.? And the graves abandoned to possible looters? Where was this old parish church located? The stained glass windows alone--if they had not already been vandalized by stones--would have been worth a lot of money. Very sad.
Wow, it looked like it was once a beautiful church. Loved the arches and columns and of course the windows. It looks as though none of them were broken! Please be careful in these old places. We don't want you to get hurt!
I loved this video! What a beautiful church! I can't believe it's sitting there not being used (except by the pigeons). So strange to leave a big hole and not return it to as it was. Doesn't seem right. Loved the windows too! Thanks from Australia! Would love to c more abandoned churches guys!😀
This is amazing! Thank you so much for going in places where I can't go. I watch a lot of these videos. I am stuck in my house all the time because of spinal injuries. I wanted to be an archeologist but life gave me a different set of circumstances. I love urban exploring and would be doing it myself if I could, so you are doing people like me a great service. At least it makes living not so boring and I get to see places I otherwise wouldn't. My Mother used to take me to graveyards when I was a kid. Some of my happiest memories of my Mom. Thanks again guys! 👍😊
I enjoy your videos so very much...you are so respectful of wherever you are at. You do not play annoying music in the video and you have a wonderful speaking voice. Keep up the good work!
I think these bros are awesome. We cannot say about another's religion, but they are respectful boys who are showing us what buildings there were so many years ago. Well done.
I think those domes were built around a timber frame that was taken out afterwards Lesley, and the bricks laid in a special herringbone pattern. Keep on exploring.
You've delivered once again, Leslie (sp...)! Thank you for taking us to see this fantastic old church! Loved seeing everything, from stained glass, to woodwork, to, yes, pigeons! Cheers of gratitude!
@Rose Treiger Wow! I've read almost all the comments and it seems we are the only one knowing that!!!! It's sad he haven't taken the time to clean the inscriptions and filmed them. I'd really like to know which church it is to do some deeper research. Authorities might have said they were doing archeological investigations here but it clearly looks more like they came to take/remove something important or that they didn't wanted to be found by the people. ;)
@@993bluezones9 absolute bullshit. skull and crossed bones is a common 100% Christian symbol that has been used for nerly 2000 years on virtually all Christian graves. Kindly learn something about Christology before spouting Dan Brown nonsense about some magnificent heroic secret knights.
your channel is the very best of all that is available ,right now. You are so respectful of property and appreciative of architecture. I am on a fixed income due to a disability but if I could I would donate each month to you, as you are superior urban explorers. thank you for all that you do to bring some joy to people like me who can not get out. May God keep you and bless you as you venture into unknown spaces and places.
Love your video's. Not so of some of the comments made here but that's life we have to live with. Keep them coming. I hope your brother had a good time with his girl friend. From the USA here.
Beautiful! Yes, those skull markers are definitely grave markers. Strange that they abandoned their digging. Great video! Thank you for sharing with us.
Amazing windows, arches, domes! Just beautiful! That ending on the domes was amazing! Thank you for sharing your adventure with everyone. I love your shirt!
Always amazes me the work that must've gone into these places only to be abandoned and forgotten This place looks to be abandoned more than 20 years Sad that it was used for so long and then only recently given up on I would like to see pictures of it when it was magnificent Tnx guys
I'm 73 now but as a boy living in England, I remember a bit on the news that someone fell through the domed ceiling of an old cathedral 100ft to his death. When I saw you walking on that ceiling that story I heard came flooding back. Please be careful in these old places. Good luck and I will subscribe.
Leslie, my darling, please wear a mask when around pigeons. They can carry up to 250 diseases. Another great video. Love your passion for decayed buildings. Nurse Carolyn
Sad to see such stunning architecture going to waste. Just a beautiful church and so glad to showed the organ loft. Pipe organs are so cool. Walking on those domes scared the hell out of me though. Great tour !
Love your videos . I am amazed often how intricately some old buildings were made. Sometimes I think people must have been smarter back then! I have always loved old buildings all my life. I have watched other explorers videos, but you & your brother are my favorites. I love how you are so respectful & reverent of the property, & your love of what you are doing.
What a beautiful church. Such a shame it has been left to fall into disrepair. There is so much history is buildings like these, not to mention the beautiful architecture. Also, PLEASE show us the outside of these buildings so that we may enjoy that architecture as well. Thank you.
It’s in Valletta Malta. Very plain on the outside but when you walk in, prepare yourself. It’s mine boggling it’s so beautiful. There’s also a Coke cathedral in Mdina. It’s beautiful as well. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_John%27s_Co-Cathedral
Old buildings are so much more interesting than newer ones! Great video, thank you for posting! And please be careful, stay safe, in these old structures. ⛪
Absolutely stunning! Those windows! And the things you do for us,climbing all those stairs, jumping up into the dome area(that had to hurt!) to show us what you love and find interesting very much appreciated! Did you notice the tiny pieces they put together to make those domes?
Beautiful!... Another awesome video...as always💜. Lots of pigeons ! Amazing the domes were still in such good shape. That is for taking us along....,stay safe and God bless😃💜
Leslie, you are so cool in every possible way. I would do anything to get to spend just one day hanging out with you. If you ever want to come to USA, to 'The South', you have a place to stay! Love your videos!
P.S. I subscribed today. Been watching your videos when they show up as a suggested video and thought I was already subscribed, I guess I wasn't. You voice adds so much to the videos, so calm and soothing. ✌️❤️✌️
Thank you so very much Leslie for showing us this amazing CHURCH. I CANT BELEIVE THAT YOU ACTUALLY CLIMBED ON THE ROOF. Wasnt the organ amazing too even with the bird poop on it lol. Keep safe & GOD BLESS you and you're family ♥ SHARON TYSON XX
Hi Leslie, Thank you for sharing another awesome tour with us!!! I can imagine what a lovely church it was in it's day..... You really should be wearing a mask with all the pigeon droppings... Keep healthy and safe in your travels!
I can't stop watching your channel, For God sake I'm Binge watching now... Lol.. My eyes are getting tired gotta give it a break for an hour Love what you guys do.......
In the last three years you did a great amount of further videos and a great job at it too. 😄. When you hopped up to pass through the window and reach the domes, my heart stopped and my knees hurt😳. You are courageous and crazy !! A thought - do wear masks or at least hand gloves 🧤 we do not want you to get sick in these abandoned dusty moldy places ! 😉👍 in all an astonishing church!!
Wow, just wow!! Great explore. And I'm super impressed at how you got yourself up through that little window like opening into the top. You are in great shape.
skull and cross bones used common in that time era in the religious faith . That man is Dust and dust we shall return . That our time here is short compared to eternity. In The New England states The Skull and cross bones can be found on many of the graves before the 1750s and can after wards be found with angel wings with faces . each stone told a story for the generations to come . What you have uncovered in Ireland is amazing as many of the catholic crypts Priest and Monks were Buried in the Church as each one that server or group had passed on to their Reward. Your so lucky to have that kind of Historic Knowledge where you are from and its a Gift to find it and come across it . I can not believe that it was disturbed 20 years ago as you never disturb The Priests or Monks Tombs or do what they have done . You were well protected in your discovery and documentation even if you have no Christian Belief . Awesome Video . Guys .
Oh My Goodness! Looks so dangerous Lesley. I love the ceiling of the entry. Beautiful and so intricate. Almost mesmerizing to look at. Thanks for sharing the lovely stained glass windows. Please take good care. SE Kansas, USA
I have an infinite awe of these ancient walls. How many generations of people have been there? It's like plunging through the doors into past centuries. So fascinating and impressive. One should walk in such places with metal detectors more often. Heaven knows what kind of traces you will discover there.
What a beautiful church that must have been back in the day. Doesn't matter what kind of church it was, was a place of worship. I kept thinking of, who walked up those steps you did, Leslie ? Amazing ! So glad you all had gloves & respirators. Can get really sick from bird droppings. Change your clothes ! Lol ! Thank you, take care 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇺🇸
How incredibly beautiful. It is awe inspiring to know this church was around in mid 1800's!! I wonder how long it took to build. The bricks would have been hand made. So much history in that building. The crypt is so sacred I can't imagine just being able to stand there and touch it. The domes were literally icing on the cake for you to show those but PLEASE be careful. Maybe you guys should hook up a safety harness when you're filming something like that. 🤔😕 I could watch watch you and your brothers video's all the time. Great job and please
Thinking it was not excavated , it was robbed, the windows are breathtaking , too bad they will lay in waste like the rest of this beautiful place . Awesome video, thanks for caring 🤗💕
This was an awesome place to visit. I'm heard that some Catholic Churches bury religious things including bones of saints or priests under the sanctuary floor. Maybe they dug up just those things to move to a new church or to store them somewhere important. I sooo love that you guys tell the history of where you are and that you don't cuss. Cussing makes a person sound so uneducated. You've done another wonderful job!!!
The entire floors of many old churches are covered in tombs. People from the 1400's to the 1800's paid a lot of money to be buried in the floors of the church. I've been to several in Europe. I don't think they exist in America.
