Abandoned Gulf - Cookeville, TN 

Cooksville's Gulf Gas Station had too many cooks in it!

Good video! Don't see too many abandoned gas stations anymore! Those gas pumps, I remember using those kind!

I just took a look at it on Google Maps, it was BP for much longer than a Gulf, it was only Gulf for a couple years before it changed one more time, then ultimately closed.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve used this gas station as a cut-through to get from Bojangles to the main intersection because traffic on Willow is so bad. I kind of hope it always remains abandoned and untouched for this very reason lol. Btw, I think I mentioned this gas station to you in the comments of one of your videos a year or two ago when you were traveling through Tennessee. It’s so cool to see you actually do a video on it! Also… This used to be a BP for many years before its short stint as Gulf. ‘I-40 BP’ was the convenience store name. It’s actually surprising to me that it’s abandoned with as much south-bound traffic there is on that stretch of Willow Avenue. The nearest gas station on the side of the road…on that side of the interstate is about a mile and a half up the road. There’s a definite need for a gas station right there. It’s nearly impossible (at least without intense frustration) to attempt to cross the road to the gas station across the street.

That's down the street from my parents home, they retired there about 10 years ago..too bad you couldn't stop in for a chat about the town, I'd love to visit there more often but a 10 hour drive for me here in PA...yep, a new restaurant every minute! lol thanks for taking us along to explore old times past! -debbs

A Mobil gas station near Sienna College turned into a Gulf station within the past few years.

This is where I live. I seen the shoney's video as well.

There was a Gulf Gas Station ⛽️ located on Gratiot and East 8 Mile Road on the Detroit/Eastpointe City Limits. After, when the Gulf Station changed franchise owners and the Gas Station ⛽️ became a Sunoco Gas Station ⛽️ and is still open to this very day. 8:00

I remember there used to be Gulf service stations in the Columbus, Ohio area years ago and are long gone. I remember there used to be Arco, Sinclair, Sohio, and Texaco gas stations in Columbus. I also remember Ashland service stations in Southern Ohio and Eastern Kentucky years ago.

I know over here in Michigan there is a lot of abandoned gas stations. There’s one in the border of Monroe mi that sat vacant for a long time and now reopening.

To replace All of those old school gas pumps is getting expensive to do that today 💵💵

Both my dad brother's use to work for oil refineries in the Philadelphia are my one uncle worked at sun oil which was sunoco and my dad's other brother worked for chevron gulf

If you ever find an abandoned Wilco or Servco gas station, let me know - I started collecting Wilco and Servco collectible trucks recently, and I am trying to make a list of all the former Servco gas stations I can find - and seeing an abandoned Wilco would be nice too! They were both North Carolina based companies, so if they are anywhere, they should be in North Carolina. Both companies were business partners with Hess. The toy trucks are amazing toys!

6:45 Cookeville is thriving. Many of the abandoned locations you visited are dilapidated and will eventually be torn down for new development, most likely. I can’t even say it was increased competition that killed these places so much as it was poor management with zero investment to modernize (the exception being Payless). At least Shoney’s half-assed wanted to do better. 🤣

Used to work at that store it was a bp back then and had been for quite a while and pretty busy ... I'd say that was about 06 to 07 ... Cookeville used to be a great place .. the opiate epidemic really hit the area hard ... Then again so did every other drug lol ..

Cookeville Tn is a dump now. Homeless people everywhere. People on drugs everywhere. Born and raised here. Most of the people here are from Florida. Michigan, Pennsylvania or California. The Gaw and Burnhart family are building cheap apartments on any corner they can find and waiting 2 times the rent for it. I could go on and on. Also a lot of illegal people are here but don’t get me started on that. Next time you want a history tour holler at me
