We explore an abandoned hillbilly mansion that’s been frozen in time for 20 years!
Flesh hangs everywhere, all throughout the house, a rotten stench fills the air.
This house felt rather like the setting for a horror film!
The family who once resided here were farmers, slaughtering pigs and sheep.
They have a fine collection of ornaments and paintings displayed all around the large manor, indicating that they were a wealthy family.
We had the pleasure of meeting a remaining family member as we left the site, he explained to us that he grew up here but when his parents passed away 20 years ago he moved out of the house into a caravan in the yard and hasn’t stepped foot inside since and he doesn’t plan to in the future. He still breeds animals for slaughter to this day, still making use of the land and sheds.
He was very friendly and didn’t mind us taking photos but said he will now board the place up to avoid it being robbed.

I know exactly how this comes to be. I lost my husband of 23 years 6 months ago I never had children of my own he had 2 when we married. The things we built and collected over the years don't matter anymore. We were so proud to build our own house ourselves, and now I am surrounded with his image in every corner. It is so hard to care about something when the best part of you is gone. It feels like I'm just awaiting my turn. So sorry to be such a sad sack, but the first ten minutes brought me to tears.

Oh Becky, your post made me so sad. I know exactly how you feel. Losing the love of your life is horrible. Your not being a”sad sack” your just being human, hopefully you have people around you who can soften your loss just a tiny bit. These videos are always so enlightening into how as human beings we collect material things and gladly surround ourselves with them but at the end of the day it is the story of the people that is most important. Take care sweetheart. Surround yourself with the friends and family who can help you rejoice in your late husband’s life after all he must have done much much more in life than pass away !

What a pity that so many beautiful things have been left abandoned in this house. Much of this should be saved and cherished once again. Unfortunately the back stories of these locations are often sad ones. This has been a lovely home at one time. Now it is a real time warp. The evolution of aging and loneliness. You can tell it like many you show were once immaculate. Im watching my parent go thru this exact thing. The house was always spotless and immaculate ant as we all moved away they slowly start hoarding things and stop cleaning from old and tired and a bit sad and lonely. It slowly everyday looks like this and they don't want help they don't like feeling a burden. Or their lifelong mate passes away and they slowly give up and stop cleaning and they start compiling everything

This is exactly what I have seen in the elderly . I am now having health problems and there are days I am unable to do my daily work on keeping my house spotless. I also inherited many things from my parents and in- laws that I didn’t need but it hurt to let them go. I am now in the process of letting things go so my children don’t end up having to be overcrowded in their homes. I’ve realized we can’t always keep things but I will sell or donate the things . This is so sad to let all the beautiful furniture and collectibles just rot or be broken. Someone could love and enjoy having them. Also does the son live on this acreage? If he does looks like he would hire someone to auction off the valuables.

That's exactly what happened with my parents. Dad filled up the house with newspapers and old clothes etc. It took him years to do it. Now both parents are dead and we are trying to clean out the house . So far we have filled 2 dumpsters ( 20 yards each) and have only cleared the living room and hallway. It's not a big house but it was 2 feet deep junk on the floors and no trails. They always refused help and got angry if we touched anything. It's hard getting m old tired and sick

The bowl and jug in the rooms were for "washing" before bed and in the morning, the jug would have warm water in it and you would pour it into the dish and use a washcloth to wipe over your hands, face, neck, armpits and feet when showers weren't a thing, and people would bathe only once a week because there wasn't running hot water they'd have to boil water on the fire to fill a bath then usually the whole family would take turns in the same bath water (yuck) sooo the jug and bowl were essentially for washing in between baths that's why each room had one cause you'd just do it in your room not the bathroom... weird and gross but that's what they had to do back in that era. I hope this helps answer that for you 😉

I can remember the year of my first bathroom , and even an indoor toilet, maybe 1968/9. Previously the toilet was a shed down the road over a hole in the ground. Some kind soul ripped up squares of newspaper to use as loo paper and stuck them on a nail. If it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown nip into town.

Sometimes loss is so painful that a person or family just can’t push themselves to deal with the situation. You are right that there are so many special family items ~ the photos, sketches, knickknacks, might mean so so much to surviving family members. I’ve only seen a small amount of the video thus far ~ can someone try to fine family members through parish and other records.

What a once fantastic home. And the story of the son living in a caravan on the lawn, that is just macabre. What could have happened that the situation came to this? It must’ve been something really dreadfully catastrophic for so much wealth to be seemingly abandoned. Maybe someday we’ll get an update from you Jess and Sam - with some sort of resolution we can live with - for now it’s like we’re all upset for the man and what ever went so horribly tragically wrong. By the way I live in a beautiful place in a city. I have family and things went wrong. I live alone and this scares me. I won’t be hanging pigs and meat from the walls but I can’t care for myself. I hope/dream to be rescued by kind souls like you some day soon. It would be so nice to get the place, and myself returned to its original happy pleasant disposition. The shame and blame from others has left me in a state of protracted grieving and I’ve not fared well these past few years. Something about this video has opened me up to writing it down here. That is good. I really think you two are very sweet kind souls and I wish you much happiness. I wonder how your exploration experiences inform your daily lives and thoughts of your own futures. Be well kids! XO

I subbed too! The music is incredible as well. So many valuable items in the home. It's amazing that it's remained intact. It's almost like the home owner left carcasses around before they left, to keep people out with the smell of peutrefaction. Some of the furniture is so beautiful and appears to be late 1700s early 1800s. One of the taxidermy pieces, with quail in it, is Victorian and worth thousands, if the quail are not dry rotted. The old binoculars are opera or theater binoculars, they would be used when ladies went to a show, often used from the balcony of a theater. Some are made with ivory or shell. Many of the paintings may even be from the 17 to 1800s. The piano may have ivory keys. Simply astounding....and the film work is wonderful! This is one of the best explorer videos I've ever seen and I also sub to the Bros of Decay! Thank you for taking your time with this place. I was able to stop the video and identify a lot of amazing antiques. Thank you! beary

Nothing prepares you for the feelings of having your memories of them stare you in the face day after day. You end up in a dark place if you have no one who cares. So the dishes don't get done dusting neglected and then you too pass. Go out and live life ...don't collects things just memories.

You say Jess found a rotting sheep in the shed so they probably had sheep on the farm and they may have been selling the wool. I found this article that might explain the urine in the bottles: "During my research I discovered that in the 17th and 18th century, urine was valued for its cleansing power by the wool industry. Human urine was used for its bleaching and degreasing effect to wash wool. It was also used during dye processes. After using the urine as a scouring solvent for wool, it can easily be recycled as fertilizer for plants and algae." Those were sheep skins hanging in the window once dried out they would use them as blankets in Winter or make sheep rugs to earn an income the sheep skin would be used underneath then Wool on top the sheep skin once dried out it would go like leather there won't be a lot of skilled people left making sheep skin rugs in the traditional way nowadays and the pig would've been for the Winter to feed them and yes Sam that barrel with the handle was a butter churn I've worked on Farms all my life and I did a study on old farms and I would say the person pee'd in milk bottles because they were disabled and couldn't get to the toilet without aid / help and with it being a working farm and having a disabled person living with you there wouldn't be someone there to look after them all the time I've never understood why there just left lying around though as I've done a couple of explores now that's had wee in milk bottles and it's usually a disabled person one of the people I explore with told me that the milk bottles in the Kitchen were probably Animal blood I'm glad those walls can't talk 😱. @@TASIAawful1 yea it maybe would but that's the things you had to do in that day and age to survive and that's how butchery started all those years ago in small farming kitchens all around the country the only difference is each farm would slaughter 1 or 2 animals then keep some for themselves then share out the rest between local villages and towns and with each other for example 1 farm would slaughter a cow and the farm they were sharing with may slaughter a pig or sheep then trade pork for beef etc then you would need to preserve it as that had to last you a couple of months even longer in wintertime

So I enjoyed this more than the previous person. Well done both 👍 And all the Dutch crockery stunning art on them. Creepy old place, weird where they hung the meat to age, possibly going a bit insane in old age. The rotating barrel was a butter churn, my Grandmother used to use one to make butter. The box with mesh on it is called a meat safe. They were placed somewhere cool to keep the meat fresh and fly free and were the forerunner of fridges. I remember Gran and our neighbour keeping stuff in them even after fridges became quite common. The Pfaff sewing machine would have been top of the range, my wife is a costumier and still buys Pfaff sewing machines. Where you get the marble topped table with the jug and bowl, this was called a wash stand and the jug was filled with water, hot or cold so you could have a wash in your room. This originated pre-bathroom. My Grandparents had them and we used them as they didn't have a bathroom and the bog was in a shed in the garden, merely a bucket with a seat on it and you chucked cold ash on top. Bath night was in a tin bath in front of the fire. They got their first inside toilet in about 1979. The strange little heater under the wash stand was a paraffin heater, it was lit and the dome glowed orange and it made a bubbling noise as the paraffin went down, they smelled lovely. Well done Sam and Jess, loving your explores, the old man will keep telling you what the old things were!!

did a good job!! FYI: houses before mid 1900's had summer kitchens, used during hot months to keep the house cooler when cooking, some were connected to the house and some stood alone (to insure no threat of fire). also pay attention to photo's. it was a practice to take death photos of the deceased before burial. some were of the whole family with the deceased posed in a photo. they are interesting but creepy
