Abandoned Home - Possible Daycare Or Group Home?

This video along with the next one turned out to be the best roadside finds that i've ever found. This house is sitting next to another one that will be in the next video and that one is even more amazing. This home appears to have gone through several remodels. Part of the home looks like it operated as a daycare or group home. This home had surprise after surprise including that sauna/rain capsule. Be sure to watch the next video to see the second home. It's mind blowing that they are abandoned. Enjoy
Please Note: Exploring Abandoned locations can be dangerous. I don't condone or encourage anyone to enter an Abandoned structure. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal and when possible, i seek out permission. I simply go to document its history before it's gone and leave things the way I find them. I assume all the risks & responsibility in doing so. Please don't attempt to do this on your own.

JPVideos What you have here and next door are two homes that were built in the 50s, but this one was being used as a daycare up until they found that it was full of Asbestos, and thus abandoned.

Hi JP, I'm so new to your channel I don't know what your actual first name is. Okay so this is the fourth of your vids I'm watching. Question this house and the cool house next door with the sunken "vat" in the floor have holes punched in the walls all over. Am I right in assuming someone stripped the copper wire out of this house and the other?

1960's vintage. I had bathrooms similar in my house built in '63. This place looks extremely expensive to operate, it is so large. I bet this place flooded at one point and the property was abandoned due to expense of reworking the damage.

Watched both videos and I prefer the other home, it's definitely my cup of tea!! I can see myself living there in luxury with the gorgeous furniture from that abandoned resort. As for the round well-thingie in the front foyer... I'd make it into a beautiful sparkly fountain. Yesiree... in a heartbeat!!!

@@coleenmarriott724 , I would love to know who built them too . When I seen the hot tub in the other house .... it made me think about Elvis Presley's daddy Vernon had one of those hot tubs in his house. I believe they said it was in Vernon's bedroom ? They say it was or still is real deep too . But I've never seen one right as you walk into a house . Maybe it was added later in the 70's ? Who knows ? lol , but I like the 2nd house better. They were once both beautiful houses back in their day .

That giant boiler looking thing is actually part of a luxury sauna system called enviornmental habitat made by Koehler and very trendy in the 70s. Not sure where the actual enclosure was but it simulates rain, wind and steam. I guess they were over 20k in the 70s. They are found in a lot of luxury homes built then. Very cool find!
@cleo2you1
@cleo2you1 6 лет назад
Definitely built or remodeled in the early 70s! This house has also been stripped of a lot of its design elements, not as bad as the one next door, but never the less the same person, people or company has stripped both houses. This house would have been really nice in it's day!

I think they were built properly in the 50's or 60's . I remember seeing some of this back then . I'm sure people could go back and watch movie's made that far back and they would be able to see some similarities to these fireplaces , bathrooms , kitchens, windows, and the wallpaper too . I love that ear !

You guys ever look around on Stafford Ave in Scranton? Just past the post office on the opposite side of the road from the PA American Water center there used to be some stone/brick shells from I guess old houses up there. Not sure if they're still back there in the weeds or not. Plus at the end of Stafford where Mountain View nursing home is there's a closed off section of I guess the same street with some pavement still visible if you climb over the rocks/dirt they put in the way there. You can see Skyview apartments off in the distance through there.

This house was one of the Ahnert sons who went on to manage Fernwood into the early 90s. Once the resort was sold out of the family, this home was used to house housekeeping staff, most of whom were from South America. They came alone with their children in tow--you are seeing the daycare elements here. What must've been gone before your visit was the single building of hotel rooms that exclusively housed resort employees. And obviously the other 2 Ahnert houses.

This appears or has the feel like it's the "business end" of the private owner residence next door. Definitely the Child Daycare and/or private primary school as you suggested. One section serving as living quarters for employee teachers/care givers. Both homes are definitely custom builds, last inhabitants second owners. Solid cedar wood closets, real marble tiles/tops, high-end spa/saunas at each location were part of the same contractor doing custom builds on-spec. Utilizing this one as the revenue producing (tax reducing) property. Bottomline - cash cow enabling (free) private residence next door, income, tax incentives.

There we're definately children in there at some point (the tot minder sticker tells me that) but maybe it was a women's shelter or something? Pretty cool no matter what it was.

A house that was transformed into something other than a residence. The one policy makes me think not a daycare.."children under 13 must be with a parent or guardian" The window with a wall behind it, former exterior window, that they didn't bother to remove and make the addition appear smooth. The room you found in the garage, a other cedar lined room ( protects against moths eating wool clothes). Cedar is pretty expensive and usually suanas were lined in pine. No fire in that florescent fixture ( same room) a bad ballast in need of replacement. The white walk in closet, how close was that to the kitchen? Two benches facing each other..just needed a table between them for a breakfast nook. Thinking this was walled off to create the closet. The one room you walked into, (after the mirrored doors) I at first a boiler for heating. But wow! The other house was much nicer, imo.

Its quite easy to find out the reasons they are abandoned. I just think the advice of counsel or the owners, you choose not to share that info with us. Its quite easy to find ownership info, death records, arrest records, and archived news about the place. County property appraisers website would be a start even without an address you can search by map parcel, then a site like BeenVerified can pull in the family members social media profiles, phone numbers, arrests/prison records, google can pull in archived news stories, county website can show past mortgage status, etc... I just think having the full picture would be more satisfying. But to be safe, you gotta do what you gotta do.
@JPVideos81
@JPVideos81 6 лет назад
I never said i couldn't find info on these properties. I research every location i film so i am aware of my resources. As you mentioned, for privacy reasons and for certain circumstances, i choose not to share certain things. Obviously more info makes for a better video but sometimes too much info can create more problems. In every video i do though, i focus on showing the life they lived and share info when i can.

I'm wondering if this house was converted into a church or religious type center with an attached daycare. With the giant room and all the chairs it would hold a nice sized crowd Also, if it was a church that wierd, sunken bath could be for full body baptism
@jennikj225
@jennikj225 6 лет назад
That is my guess. I've seen worship centers like that around here (rural Wisconsin), where a large house is converted into a religious center with daycare. Most of the time they are the religions that hold day long worship services and serve meals during the lunch "break". I had a cousin who went to a church like that when we were kids. They also held religious day camps in the summer. Very cult- like.

My guess is. It was a relaxing place to go. Then one day mold took over. Maybe the mold came in from the fire wood they had down in the basement. In my Neighborhood there is a nice brick house, with a nice family. Their home became a victim to mold. They moved out and the place was placed onto the market. Someone bought it, and gutted the entire home. Even knocked down two small brick builds on the lot. Whoever is rebuild the house in my "hood", their spending tens of thousands to save the home. Maybe, just maybe that happened here.....and they gave up or ran out of funds.

The certificates and plastic sorters on the wall gives it a medical vibe. It's too open for a cult or a rehab center, because glass doors can easily be broken in order to get out and for outsiders to see inside. The Habitat and the way it is set up don't make me think cult or rehab either, both of which don't tend to usually provide that kind of luxury. I think it was some kind of in home dementia care facility. The place is really open, which keeps the patients from feeling like they're locked up. A doctor would usually be on site for medical emergencies (perhaps the person that ran it and lived in the house next door). Seniors with dementia are often given toys and activities that are similar to children's activities and toys.

My first thought seeing the intro was elementary school-- that style looks like one I went to in Wisconsin. All the large windows floor to ceiling would of made for a very drafty cold house. All I can say about the sun tub and jacuzzi room is how neat!!! Never seen such a thing as that walk in sun/ sauna/ breeze tub.. Very interesting. This place would of been costly to heat and maintain that's for sure. I couldn't of lived in this, too open and no cozy areas, the#2 house would be ok, a bit of a warmer feel. Both very intriguing.

Quite a good quality property, not the best construction & finishes but definitely very good quality. On a scale of 1 to 5, I'd give this a 4, maybe a little extra, but standard for its type. The closet you said looked like a sauna appeared to be a cedar closet. These have, for a couple hundred years, been used to protect good clothing as cedar was thought to repel moths & other pests (same for the house next door). I wondered what the ceiling heights were on the main floors and in the basement, perhaps 7'6"? The scattered HVAC definitely suggests additions. Have you checked municipal or county tax records? Using the address you may be able to access ownership and/or property description records either on line or at the government seat (ie., municipal or county; state if a territory). I would have been interested in the types of awards on the office wall (no names, or addresses, etc.). But it may have disclosed the type of professional managing the facility. Take care in those abandoned buildings and back yards cause you'll never know what you may stumble into. Nice Video, good work! from Cyndie on (Richard Cole's shared account)

Is it an entire neighborhood abandoned or just the two homes. TOO MANY properties are going to waste. and there are countless people with no homes. I'd love to see some sort of project happen in the nation to get access to these places and create them into homes, group home or even businesses. JP I googled the Habitat K-60 series you called off. I found one made by Kohler that sold for approximately $20,000.- back in 1978. That is some nice little unit. A sunroom/for tanning, rain shower head/hand held, and steam/sauna. Also very nice speaker system with built in radio/cassette player stereo a attached. Amber lights for ambience as well as warm breeze vents in ceiling for that "tropical" feel. We didn't see the front. It's called an environmental booth that simulates the elements for the weary worker who comes home exhausted. I honestly don't know anyone who could have afforded this thing!! There is also a house in Sturgis Michigan that has one inside. The house has been vacant for several years but is on the market for $335,000 -. It was over 5,000 sq. Ft. Came completely furnished. Had inground pool with slide and had several of the exact same elements as that house you're walking through! MCM 70's - at least they knew as of 78'! Would like to email the link so you can view this house. As well as the info surrounding the Habitat K60 environmental unit. Is there any way to do that? Thank you!

This was impressive. so very large and it was hard to know that until you videoed it from the backside! I must say I wish you could explain a little more as to what direction you are going. Like "leaving what we think is the master bed & bath and turning left to continue down the hall. I do though absolutely love this stuff. I thought I was the only one foolish enough to go into an abandoned house with my camera! I really like the basements when you go into them. In Florida, you don't really see those at all. this looked like it had been gone through and the sheetrock has been taken for use someplace else, especially when the nails are there with sheetrock paper on them! I was impressed that there was so much spray foam insulation! They were doing a good job or someone had a grand time taking the stuff off and using it in another home. Are you ever able to get a permit to do some demo and get some of the tile & granet or light fixtures to salvage?
@JPVideos81
@JPVideos81 6 лет назад
I will try and keep that in mind in future videos. The basement appeared to have been flooded. Thats why all the sheetrock was removed. There was some mold down there.

JP, I had an in home daycare in Southern Illinois. That looks very much like a daycare set up. Each room was for different ages, the "library" room was most likely for after school children to do their homework.

Hey JP, I can tell that At one time, the place was really nice, it looks like it could be a daycare facility. The colors look like it is straight out of the (70's).🤔🙄☺️. Someone with money should buy the place and fix it up, it would make someone A beautiful home. (Again) .☺️

The tiles are similar to the blue-green ones nextdoor. The artwork is horrendous to say the least. This was a home turned into a living facility for children (as a guess). Although the properties date from the same era, I almost guarantee they had the same owners.also note the baker's racks in the second house.

I'm just wondering if the two houses had the same owner. It's the same bamboo wallpaper and bathroom tiles. And they both had the white suits. I absolutely LOVE your video's. I found them by accident a few days ago and now I'm hooked!

This house appears to have been used as a school. Maybe a small day care as well. Remnants of paint, etc lead me to think that from the start. In order to turn this back into a home would be not only a lot more $, but years of work over the other house.

Foam insulation can be toxic if not done properly & only thing you can do is remove it and walls etc... very expensive fix. Maybe that's what happened & they ran out of $ to fix issue.
@taylori01
@taylori01 5 лет назад
I was thinking they have some kind of toxic problem and that's why they were abandoned. Seeing those white jackets eeriely hanging in both places sent up red flags for me. Otherwise I think these properties would have been purchased and occupied by now. You should be careful.

Definitely an amazing place, (WOW) is definitely not the word for this place. I wonder if this place was multiple additions over the years, since the basement appeared to be only under the front section, also would explain why the HVAC equipment was scattered throughout the main floor and not in the basement, I was surprised to see a lot of the copper remaining in this place but clearly some of it was cut.

I agree with the other about the toxic mold and you should wear masks...that probably accounts for the white suits....the foam insulation was probably to stop water seeping in...also it did remind me of a church with the speakers then the garage with all that seating and booths...I love the double bath tub and the atrium and the library and the pink blossoing trees...but too much mold in the house...a little worrisome....stay safe
