2:58 this is from japanese culture and the meaning is that you draw only one eye on it then you make a wish and if this wish success then you draw the second eye, once done you must keep it safe and clean, eventually making some offering to it too.

Borrowing the keys to check out the rooms might be cool. In fact, in the US where vandalism is more aggressive, locking a few of the rooms and keeping the keys to help reduce the odds of them being looted might arguably be a good idea. Not all of them, because then doors would get busted down, but like one room from each style for historians to check out later.

Is like a good luck talisman, when you buy it the eyes are white, then you make a wish or choose a goal and paint en eye pupil in the left eye; when the wish or goal is fullfilled, you paint the right eye! Then you can take another. You can buy it and give it as a gift for someone to make a wish. :D KEEP EXPLORIIING

The "little eggs painted" They're Daruma dolls (that's spelled wrong probably) The idea is that at the start of the year you get one and you set a goal for yourself. Once the goal is set, you paint 1 of it's eyes and once you complete the goal you paint the other eye

3:02 it is in japanese culture called daruma or dharma. The one eye painted black that represents your wish then when your wish come true you should paint black the other eye. So, when the 2 eyes had painted black, it means your wish come true.

I thought he is around 20 but he is already 27 years old 😱 ( I am 29 ) I love Josh but sometimes I feel he could put more effort on these videos. He is always so much guessing instead of giving more facts. "this is something.." I am not sure.." I don't know." Yes it is nice to listen his excitement but obviously he has seen pics of the places in advance, so he could have google more detailed information about time period, architecture styles, art knowledge, people's attitudes... But thanks showing such a amazing places! Ps. Sometimes it would be easier to follow if you would create simple "floor plan"on the corner to viewer understand better which part of the house you are in each shots.

I know what Hotel that is and where it is and who owned it when it closed. And given who it was it is no wonder they just abandoned everything..the losses would have been no big deal. The horse statues at the very start told me exactly what the Hotel was. I had seen pics of them before.

Was stationed in Japan for a couple years back in the 90's. They don't use items used by other people. There is a sense there that a part of the "spirit" or something of the previous owner is in the property. They didn't have garage sales. When people would buy new furniture, they would put perfectly good furniture on the curb for disposal because other Japanese would not use it. US Military people called this stuff "gomi piles". They would go to them and take furniture etc. The Japanese didn't mind. There was a big earthquake in the 90's and Americans donated blankets etc but the Japanese would not acept it. they could only take money to purchase new stuff.

The "egg" things are called Daruma. They are used to set goals. Meaning, when you set a goal you color one eye in. Once you achieve your goal you color the other. I had one in high school and I'm sure it's a Japanese thing.

Those "eggs painted" are called "Daruma". You buy them without the eyeball paint, and when you wish for something you paint one of it by yourself and put in the highest home place alongside the altar. When your wish comes true you paint the other eyeball. (I'm not japanese, so please correct me if I'm wrong at some point)

The ceiling of the theater doesn't look hand painted. You can see how they pieced it together, for one. It is beautiful tho. Also, as u go thru the room I started to recognize the art and the last one in the room (3:44) was the give-away. The originals were hand painted but these look like the roll ons. That would be my guess. But either way, it's recreated. I love how Josh thinks everything and everyone is as honest as he is. He thinks every thing is hand created & vintage and he just throws around different periods like he knows what they are😂. I love his videos. His camera work and editing is beautiful. His energy is incredible. He has incredible vibes and he is my favorite to watch but good God, I'd give anything (if I had it) for him to get a little bit of an education about art & architecture, even basic construction stuff would do him so much good. Smh

i dont get it, i never will. like how does this happen. Like why is all that stuff left. Lets take that ladder for example. who ever was doing work there, why does he not want his ladder anymore. The plates were set up still. so last person in didnt try selling them off? like how do you just walk away and leave all this here. Or like the "head guys" office. He had all those nic naks on the shelf. those must have been personal items not the hotels. How can he just leave it there

That round egg shaped doll is called a Daruma. It's a symbol associated with good luck and prosperity like most symbols including the lucky cat or Maneki-Neko. They are made to look like the creator of Zen buddism if I remember right. This is what I learned myself at least, I am not a native Japanese person so if I got something wrong, I hope that someone will correct me. Also, the rooms where people would sleep with the futons on the floor I believe are Tatami rooms because they have the Tatami mat on the floor. Normally in those style of rooms, you don't want to wear your shoes.

@@resatchel4389 I searched the comments for this. Timestamp 23:48 so that would mean the slides empty into approx. 3 feet of water, and then the pool goes deeper? Looks strange.

Didn't want to be the one because I love Josh's videos and preserving historical items and locations of all kinds, but adding to that, enough information was given for a researcher or history buff to find and then "weed and seed", so to speak, locations until they found it. Not saying it would easy but it could be done. Too much time and energy if you ask me but may not be for someone else

Why I couldn’t explore abandoned places, because i like knick knacks and i would try to take them. I love collecting things and it would be so hard to resist taking cool things to not display in my room.

You moved the camara to fast can't see details.... Always carry with Water when you go exploring around, you never know when you might need water!!

It saddens me to think, millions of JPY put into this luxurious place, left, abandoned, and there is so many people starving and living in poverty when the Japanese gov could have placed impoverished people here. Maybe the emperor should look into all massive abandoned places as big as this to house his people as seeing as living space in Japan is so limited.

The little red guy is a Daruma. When you have a goal or a wish, you color in the Daruma’s left eye and when you have accomplished the goal or wish you fill in the right eye.

15:35 remember this? The Japanese word 薬 kusuri, means drugs or medicine. It's a sign of the drug store on the opposite street. Btw this hotel is Plaza Hotel Shoraiso in Kaga (city), Japan.
