I am almost in tears. I don't know why you did this but thank you. I attended from K-5th grade. My first play, my chorus performances, the radiators in the hall that were peeling paint along with the walls. I got my first (and only) black eye here. I was literally walking through the halls with the videographer. I always wondered what happened after graduation. The school was closed not too long after I graduated because of the threat of lead paint poisoning. (Glad I survived) I loved this school! Thank you

Yeah I definitely agree, and that's always a risk when going into places like this, ya never know what you're going to find behind those abandoned walls!! In this case, they just found a man sleeping...still scary though, you don't know what they'll do...specially if they think you're there to harm them or steal their shopping carts or if they're hyped up on some sort of drug..etc. ****Be safe out there**** "TheUnknownCameraman" and anyone else that does this sort of thing!!!!
I played with my elementary school orchestra in that auditorium/gym where the homeless guys was sleeping, probably in 1980 or so. Weird...thanks for posting!
Sure is! I envy what you do, me and a couple of friends used to go explore old structures around town, lots of fun. One of my favorites was the old mental health institute/Candler mansion over on Briarcliff Rd (now part of Emory campus). Also cotton mill in Cabbagetown amongst others. Miss those adventures!
Ali Gregg The noises people hear are the folks outside of the school. I remember a school bus nearby dropping off kids while we were in there. Not sure if there were any deaths on the property over the years though.
Were you wearing a mask while filming this? It sounded like you were and it would definitely be smart because a lot of those buildings are loaded with asbestos.
My old highschool was closed down about 8yrs ago. I went there for 1.5 yrs during jr high until the new HS was being built to replace it. A couple friends and I went back to explore it about 5yrs ago. It was pretty cool to see all the remaining remnants left behind some I still remembered. It was officially demolished last year after my church couldn't sell it nor keep it up. It was a big catholic school that was opened back in the early 1900s. It was only catholic school in the town I lived in. There are some haunted legends/ stories that surround the school as well.
Very well filmed, with an excellent camera and slow, steady hand. I also truly appreciate that you aren't saying things like, "oh, wow", and "cool", and the like. Instead, it is silent. I think that adds to the atmosphere -- it also is respectful. I like the added facts you've added about the site.
I don't know why every time i see an abandoned building. I keep seeing people as tho they are living their past memories again. It's like me reliving their lives again.
I started this school in 1948 (5th grade) and after finishing the 7th grade, I went to Murphy High School, not far away. Wish I could have seen the building again before it was demolished. I still have my class photos from those three years. My 5th grade teacher was "Ms. Miller".
That's quite sad. What's shocking is, when it closed: 1995 - looks like it was closed for much longer than that! I hardly think they'll be able to renovate it, as it's too far gone - would cost much more to renovate it than it would to just tear it down and rebuild on the lot. Great vid and interesting info. Its really sad that local governments don't try harder to preserve older buildings. My high school built in 1956 is still in use to this day with several additions added over the years. The original school burned down after only 7 years of being open in 1952. The previous two building are still being used as a special education and middle school. In fact only one school in that district was demolished and that was my elementary school. It was only demolished because it was heavily damaged by a flood in 2001. Point being older buildings don't have to end up like this. It may cost more to renovate them, but the end results are worth it.
I went here once at night because I'm a jackass and Georgia's p boring. The teddy bear wasn't there anymore - it'd been missing for awhile. The entire time I was shaking. Tubes(wires) fell through the ceilings and I remember being weirdly nervous around them even though the power's obviously been gone since the 90s?ish. Honestly I was just scared of hobos attacking us.
I wish i could tell you about this school in my town its creepy because i went there when i was 4-5 at the time and a year later its closed i moved schools before that even happened i once went to explore and i was not aware that there was other explores to sorry for my bad english but thanks if you read this :D
I never understand why people are always so creeped out by abandoned buildings, so quick to associate them with ghosts. I would be more creeped out by squatters that may mug me or jump me more than anything of the spectral nature. I appreciate this because I really value seeing the architecture of these older buildings, even though it breaks my heart to see these places in such disrepair and find out they've been demolished
As soon as the roof starts leaking in any significant amount, water damage takes care of these abandoned buildings pretty dang quickly, especially after a few freeze/thaw cycles in cold weather.
It always blows my mind how much decay there is after a few years with places like this. Seems like a lot of it is just temperature, humidity, and roof leaks. That's a cool old building though.
Why was it abandoned? Like there has to be a reason. I researched it an it closed in 1995.. Four years before 100 years. Why would it close just randomly. And so close to being open for 100 years. I've tried to find out but sadly I couldnt find anything. Im hoping someone else knows?

Linda Beckworth I attended that school in the fifties. It was beautiful and had wonderful teachers. By the way, a small boy was tragically killed when a heavy swing set turned over and crushed him to death. This was around 1955.
I wonder who benefitted financially with the condominiums built where this school once stood. It's not like this parcel of land is now public use. Thanks for memorializing this structure
Great idea! I've read that when the original Cunard liner Mauretania was scrapped there were spaces between walls and paneling, the result of renovations and redecorating, creating something like secret passages. I have the idea of for a young-readers mystery set aboard an ocean liner waiting to be scrapped. In the 20's or 30's paneling was taken down on the (American) Leviathan and a hidden barber shop was found from her days under the German flag, the Kaiser's portrait was still on the wall
As I was watching this, I was wondering how often you guys stumble across a squatter or other homeless person staying in one of these places. As I was wondering that, I got to the part where you noted that there was a guy sleeping in on of the rooms. You guys have much bigger cajones than I do. Thanks for sharing your footage.

It always amazes my what loosing a roof can do to bring on severe water damage,how cool would it be to time lapse the ceiling rotting until the lights fall like that.minus a few tags it looks unstripped.
I would have guessed the place closed down in the early 80s, and not 1995. That GA humidity sure takes its toll on building material. Perhaps the building was already starting to rot in the 90s giving the decay a head start.

Tight! I live about 5 mins away from here off of Memorial Dr; as you may have seen while you were visiting here, there are alot of old buildings that are converted into loft properties in this immediate area. And the avg. rent to live in these types of properties are about $1100 and up for 1 bed. Check out the history on "Fulton Cotton Mill Lofts" & "THE ROOSEVELT Lofts" - which was a school.. I took a tour and it was kind of creepy. Thanks for sharing this video! :-)
my god..its been empty for 17 years but you could swear for the shape its in its been empty for 27 years. I commented to you before on facebook about a couple of abandoned schools here in southern Michigan, one of them was featured in an episode of unsolved mysteries because of a murder. Look up a segment about a Dennis Depue here on youtube and you can see the school in a few segments.

I'm surprised the building didn't even come down seeing as how ruined that place is! Also, why are companies leasing the place when the only thing to do with it is to tear it down.
also to everyone talking about kids screaming or whatever: this building was like right outside of downtown atlanta in a decently populated area and all the windows were gone. There was lots of traffic and people walking around when we were there

You should go to my old elementary school. They shut it down a couple years after I moved. They shut it down a couple years ago. It's called 4 courners elementary school in greenfield, Massachusetts.
