Abandoned Johnny's Drive-In - West Elizabeth, PA 

when I was a little kid my dad worked up the road from them and once in a while if they worked over time, the employees were given tickets to get food there. instead of eating himself he brought monster burgers home to me and my mother too. they were super good. when my husband and i were dating in 1966/67 we would go there on some Friday nights in my 1958 VW or his '67 Olds convertible. Moved from the area 25 years ago but up to that time still went there a lot. To this day, we miss the monster burger. What a fun hang out, all the kids called it in those days. It was one of the main go to places for teens. But not just for teens, couples brought their kids too. One of our best memories...Thank you..thank you for this.Bless you. Oh and everone was playing rock and roll on the same station. lol. or blasting on 8 tracks. what fun.

Closed because of the exodus of Patrons in the area, I ate there many times in the 70's, good food and the milk shakes were the bomb.....Who among the commenters remember The Blue Bird in Clairton, the best small mom and pop establishment, open from 9pm till folks left in the wee hours of the morning.....good food good times. BTW I am a spouse of a retired NS employee....

There's still so many amazing classics like this out here in Chicago. Mom &Pop restaurants are the best.

A shame! You don't see that many diner, period! Let alone a drive-in! I hope someone brings that style of business back into that building! It looks like it's in an area where people would support it!

South and East suburbs of Pittsburgh are broken down and boring. I love that Amoco took over King’s in Imperial Oakdale area as they have tasty food and cold coffee.

Hopefully, they keep it the same, and it opens up soon. I miss these places. Thanks for sharing, brother.

I used to love going here on Saturday nights when I was little. My dad would take us after dropping grandma off at Bingo. We were in our pajamas. They had the best milkshakes!! Good memories. It was sad to see it going downhill and I couldn't stand the smoking inside.. ewww. The Monster burgers were awesome though. I'm glad someone bought it and cleaned it up. It looks beautiful and brand new again. I wish someone would buy it and decorate it in colorful neon lights and re-open it as it was long ago. I would come back for a burger and a shake on Saturday nights just to reminisce.

Someone bought it not long after it closed (maybe 2 1/2 years ago) and he’s been doing some updates on it. Now that the updates are compete it’s up for sale. While it still looks pretty much the same he cleaned it up pretty good on the inside and the outside. All the rock landscaping is new and at night the lighting looks new. I believe it has a fresh cost of paint on the outside of the building. When you looked through the windows on your video it looks like it’s been a little updated inside as well from when they closed 3 years ago. There was never seating on the right side of the restaurant. That was the Ice cream machine/cooler and soda machine and there was a counter that ran across that as well. There was only seating to the left. 2 tables and then the counter. The back I believe is an apartment.

I absolutely love places like this! So sad to think that it will probably be replaced with a Dunkin' or a Taco Bell.

Wallie, the inside of that place reminds me of the J's breakfast and burgers in Dallas(on Midway Road between Farmers Branch and Addison). You should check them out.

Looks like it could open up tomorrow! Very clean inside. This almost reminds me of a mom-and-pop owned version of Sonic! If I would have known this was here, I would have done the same as you, Wallie. I would have given my business. So sad that small places like this have to fail.

Very sad situation Hate to see it closed. It's in great shape. I'm near Scranton Pa so I'll never get there if it reopens. I'd appreciate seeing if it does and similar,an update if you will. Possibly a good spot for a Sonic curb side restaurant.Keep up the good work.

Thank you for covering this place. Never been to it because I'm not from the area, but it makes me want to support the ones that are in my area. Even makes me miss this place we had here called Bob's Cafe, which might have been a drive-in like this at one time, well before I got to try it. The ribs and potato wedges with sour cream were excellent.

My grandmother was related to the owner Fern and worked there on and off in the 60's. Fern had a daughter about my age and I used to go stay and play with her and I remember they had a hugh pet bird we played with. The back of the building was a home and the outside was closed in and that's where we'd play. I have an addiction to soft serve and that probably where it started. Too bad. I'm with you that it would be nice if it stayed as a drive in. It was part of my past.

I once stopped at a long ago closed restaurant and when I went around the back there was a shed with lots and lots of clean dishes, plates, trays and silverware just sitting there, for years........Looked like they ran everything thru the dishwasher one last time and then packed it away. Must have been thousands of dollars back there in utensils and such.

That’s 10 minutes down the road. My neighbor she worked there for 20yrs and 2yrs later the owner retired.

It was open as of 2019 according to street view so it obviously a pandemic closure sadly

Heard it was going to be turned into a car dealership. I wanted to buy this a few years ago and bring it back to it's hey day with car hops and car cruises, but the owner wanted too much for it. Sorry I didn't try harder. It was a great dream though......

I'd imagine covid really hurt this place due to not wanting to go out especially when you have to have such close face to face interactions and the fact drive ins during covid time werent the best idea.
