This abandoned nursing home and nursing school in Illinois closed in 2016. I found medical supplies, a really cool bathtub, lots of wheel chairs, and tons of medical beds. The power no longer works and this place will probably end up demolished.

That place is DEFINITELY a nursing home. I worked in many for many years. There were things I have seen for years in these places. The straws, cups and even the bathtubs are definitely a nursing home. Believe, they are not mini hospitals. Many of us did peritoneal dialysis in nursing homes which are no longer called nursing homes but rather are called Rehab facilities. The had been the names for many years. Those pads are used for a few things but most likely that many of one kind was used by patients beds. That is because state laws prevent any kind of restraints for unsafe patients. We lowered the beds to floor level of patients known to fall or try to get up unsafely frequently. The mats were by the bed so if a patient chooses to get up out of the bed and staff cannot be there or a patient alarm has been unsuccessful, then the patient is getting up or crawling safely onto the mat. I had many patients who were more comfortable sleeping on the mat on the floor than on the hospital bed. That note on the wall said 2016 so most likely this place was either closed by the state for deficiencies (issues with patient care or patient safety, structural deficiencies or other such reasons or the facility may have been bought out and if not enough residents there, they may have closed it. The condition of that building looks like years of lack of care, not just 6 years. And some of that equipment looks ancient!! Meaning nothing was being updated. That alone can mean families pulling patients out of filing lawsuits over patient care. I was a nurse in these facilities for many years so I know the drill. State public health officials are supposed to visit the facility once a year. The facility is not to receive warning so that if something is awry, it is caught by inspectors. In older days though, many poor care facilities were allowed to continue operating and remain open when some who knew the inspectors could "bribe" inspectors. Of course, I cannot say it still does not happen today but I can say it is a lot less likely it is.

I am so jealous! I love abandoned places. Before I became a nurse, I went to a CNA school/nursing home combo. I lived in northwest indiana at the time so kinda close. It worked really well bc to become a CNA, you need hands on hours. Keep a class going at all times and you have extra help, year round. I bet that's what this was!

So it looks like the building was used by the local fire department for training. @1:44 you can see holes in the wall consistent with wall breaching (for situations when fire fighters become trapped) and mixed with the simulation smoke make this highly probable. The department I use to be with would get abandoned buildings for train from time to time.

That's weird, looks like it was left rather suddenly. All the food ect left behind, I wonder what the story behind it is.

Nurse here: This was indeed a nursing home and probably what happened is funding ended or was shut down for code violations and never reopened due to code violations having HUGE (tens of thousands) fines. I've seen it many times unfortunately. Closing like this is very sudden by design and often comes with no warning so everything just stops on that moment, creating frozen moments in time.
