This place is bizarre with an internal design that doesn't make sense with an unfinished basement that is dungeon like. Great discovery, Phil of a house that gives me "criminal" vibes.

Amazed to see how many split system units were added. The place looks like it was built in 1988. Intercoms were big in the mid to late 80s, not so common in the 90s and were always prominent in large builds!

1:46 Who builds a set of concrete stairs directly outside a floor to ceiling panelled glass window? They literally could have just built them straight along the brick wall to the right? Having said that, there are a lot of what I would call “interesting” design choices here. The entire footprint of my house could fit within the weird, awkward, unusable, wasted spaces in this house.

I don't believe it was cheap I'm sure it's just from the late 70s early 80s and that's why you think that because everything was tacky back then

Too many stairs for a retirement home or aged care. Doesn't seem to have kids rooms. The glass walled room on the ground floor is giving office vibes. The tiled rooms on the pool level have got me beat. But a very strange building.

6:54 We originally had the exact same taps and shower head in our house that was completed in 1997 that was built by Australand! That massive home was most likely originally built in the late 1980s/early 1990s but has had a light renovation in the 2000s/2010s.

I think that this is a purpose built brothel. The spa suites, all colour coded differently, the huge wardrobes, private balconies, and the voyeuristic nature of the circular design, grand entrance, luxury location, discreet parking, etc etc And/or swingers club.
@a24-45
@a24-45 Месяц назад
I can see the logic of your idea. One thing though, Council building codes restrict brothels to certain areas, they don't usually allow them in residential zones. Because the neighbours tend to get annoyed by the constant comings and goings all night long, drunks knocking on the wrong doors, and their own kids asking awkward questions. I'm in a block of units and someone once tried to run a xxxx business from their unit, the residents kept calling the police because of the customers trying to enter "quietly" over the balconies. Anyone running an operation like that in suburbia would need to run it VERY discreetly and secretly.
@joyskov6048
@joyskov6048 Месяц назад
@a24-45 I 100% agree with you. If it was intended to be a brothel and did become operational... either it would be shut down pretty quickly or they'd need a lot of bribe cash. Judging by the look of the foundation and construction seen under the house and in the rooms - the owner doesn't appear to be the type to be concerned with building permits, council approval, fire hazards, ventilation etc. This building was never intended to last for a long time.

@a24-45
@a24-45 Месяц назад
Hmm. Makes me wonder about the owner's vision for the place. He/she/they had enough money to build on this grand scale, but not enough money to employ an architect. Everything shown here says, to me, owner-builder on a very tight budget. It feels a lot like a block of 3-storey units from 25 years ago. The materials used inside and out, and every finish within the building is of the cheapest grade - the door handles, light switches (not even dimmers), the bare minimum of power outlets, the basic toilets , the basic vanity units, the bathroom tiles so un-alike from each other that they might have been random job lots on sale; the style-clashing "Victorian" wooden balustrades, the narrow, basic staircases, the strange sharp steps in the swimming pool; the wall tiles used as floor tiles on the stairs, and most unexpected of all, the floral carpet. Such Axminster carpets went out of fashion in the sixties! and are rarely seen now except in hotels and bars. Which perhaps is a clue. There are too many steps inside and out for this to be a retirement facility, and there is no room big enough to be a meeting room, hall or communal dining area, for a conference centre. Weekend wedding accommodation for a group? the location looks too suburban, but perhaps there was a demand for this. Or, the house might have been easy to section off for subletting -- say ten flats complete with permanent outdoor parking for vehicles. But perhaps the simplest explanation is that the owner wanted to be able to hold weekend sleep-over parties for big groups....
@zordmaker
@zordmaker Месяц назад
haha worked on a few of those in my years. This place : the owner likely never lived here, but handed his wishes down through levels of minions and this was the result. It was all a showcase used once or twice a year and then slowly fell into disuse, most of it never used. Certainly a Builders' Retirement Fund if I ever saw one. Both now likely dead, property passed to dependents who sold it and now subdivided and this thing awaiting demolition. Certainly too big to heat or cool or live in. I'm guessing West Liverpool / Hoxton Park or further south somewhere down Camden Valley Way. Rego check on the plate says expired 2006 so I'm guessing this place was a 1990s thing. You are certainly right about the fittings : sold the highest option to the owner, who during their few fleeting visits to the site, never noticed what they builder was supplying or how much was left out or traded down to stuff left over from other jobs.
@a24-45
@a24-45 Месяц назад
@@zordmaker gotta feel sorry for the inheritors, who perhaps hoped that the buildings would have been easy enough to renovate and upgrade, and maybe believed that a property developed in this way would have already been worth a tidy fortune. Whereas in fact it was only good for knockdown and rebuild, because it was so cheaply built in the first place. Such a waste of time and effort.

1980s shopping mall architect? It looks like it was designed by an engineering draughtsman who liked a car or two. Big family, maybe. The drainage on the floor - where it's finished - in the 'catacombs' look prof. Also, the expert Maccas archaeology made me smile (27:49)

Very strange house this one. Definitely gives me organised crime vibes. The underground “catacombs” or labyrinth made me think hydroponics, especially with all those garage roller doors. Quick access to load up and drive out 😂 But also with all those smaller rooms under the house made me think of human trafficking etc. Otherwise it was gonna be a serious swingers pad!

It looks like a guest house where church groups go for a weekend away. It’s definitely not for retired or aged care, too many stairs. What town is this in? Is there a major attraction nearby? It looks like it could be fixed up and still be useful. The outside buildings look like office spaces.

That's such a weird and ugly place. It seems big for the sake of being big. It's like something a child built out of Lego. The entire layout doesn't make any sense. They could have used half the building material to make something great, but that's the monstrosity they came up with.

i looked at this house when it was up for sale around 2010. I'm 99% sure it was originally built as a high end brothel in the very early 90's. The house (if you can call it that) was amazing but had some problems, and just because of the sheer scale of the place(the video doesn't do it justice) it was impossible to renovate / repair it without seriously overcapitalizing. But someone fell in love with it. Which wouldn't be hard, it seems the renovations came to a halt in 2020. best guess would be COVID shut down the project and it never recovered. There use to be a tennis court next to the outside toilets. the "outdoor fancy shed" was a fitted out granny flat,the weird round room was a wine cellar, and believe it or not there were even more bathrooms back then.😅

Some idiot Bank gave money to this spin merchant, and they swallowed his bait. The local council never doubted the builder for a mansion in their humble town. No Architect ever designed this monster. Fit-out by Bunnings, with Melemene chipboard from China. The Local Council are truly embarrassed by this folly. Who gave them money to allow it to be built? The Lord Mayor has nothing to say.
