You should do a lap of Schottenring some day. All the roads that made up this street track are still there (only a very small section is blocked for normal traffic, that is only open for the hillclimb race). Part of the track is still used for hill climb races. I drove those roads once and it was a very spectacular track.
@@Circuitsofthepast You definitely should. The roads leading up to Schotten are nice too. And I believe there was either a small museum or a restaurant with old pictures of the track in the town. Not sure what it was because I unfortunately didn't have time to visit it.

Bedankt. Ja RU-vid kan soms best frustrerend zijn. Het algoritme kijkt niet naar hoeveel tijd en werk je erin steekt, alleen naar hoeveel en hoelang naar een video wordt gekeken. Helaas is het onderwerp oude racecircuits alleen populair wanneer de Formule 1 Spa-Francorchamps, Zandvoort en Monza aan doet.
In retrospect, even though it occurred in 2000, 2 years before the redesign, I feel that the disgruntled ex-Mercedes employee who invaded the track in the forested section was what killed off the third layout of Hockenheim. As Ross Brawn said, even while celebrating Rubens Barrichello's first win, "[it is] a public forest and the public do have access. Obviously with cars travelling at over 200mph through there, that's incredibly dangerous and it shouldn't be allowed to happen again,"
Traveling over 200 Mph is part of Formula 1. Even when the track runs through the woods, if the run-offs are big enough and the fences high enough (so there will be no animals or angry Mercedes employees on the track) it should be no problem.
@@Circuitsofthepast I think that Hockenheim were backed into a corner (no pun intended), either they were going to have to fork out enormous sums to reinforce security and safety through the ~4 miles of forests the then existing track cut through, or, fork out slightly less to centre the redesigned layout around the stadium and attempt to claw back some of the costs by creating more spectator space. It's my belief that the owners were anxious to avoid a repeat of Tom Pryce's fatal accident at Kyalami in 1977, where, unsighted, he ran over and killed instantly a fire marshall who was holding a fire extinguisher, which in turn, struck Pryce on the head, killing the driver as well
@@SiVlog1989 I don't think they thought about the Tom Price accident. The reason they want to modernize the circuit was because the circuit bosses feared competition from the modern new Lausitxring, which had the ambition to take over the German GP thoe days. Tilke had already a plan ready to modernize the old track, but the bosses wanted a more compact payout. Anyway, Monza is still quite a similar kind of circuit as old Hockenheim and is still hosting F1.
Herman, Is Sitges Terramar Being renovated? I saw a couple of videos that shown that track is very clean without any plants growing up, only the bumps :)
Yes, I heard they change it into a motorsport resort with also a horse track on the infield. But the banking will not used for racing anymore, only as a site for presentations and demonstrations.
Yes, there is a drag strip which starts in the Motodrom and make usage of the straight from the hairpin to the Motodrom. The straight is driven in opposite direction when used for drag racing.
I am in shock! I never knew Sachsenring had an original layout! I knew the current one known for it's moto gp racing but I didn't know there was an original layout!! Also of course we all knew or figured the old Hockenheim was going to be number 1.
Than you will be happy with the next video which is now in production. It contains a lot of footage of my circuit tour through Germany and the exploration of old Hockenheim. Even with some footage I didn't use before and background information about my journey.
