Abandoned Wairoa to Gisborne railway line 

I really hope this line and other lines going around the country can be fixed and reopened because this would be a great income for some towns along the rail

I wonder how far the $700m the govt was willing to spend of a cycle bridge in Auckland would go on repairs to this line .

apart from the obviousness of the line closure, what an exceptionally well constructed mini documentary: very well put together and eminently watchable :)

Looks like they'll also have to renew the track & corridor if they ever get around to reinstating that link and bridging/culverting that washout. Still fingers crossed that this Michael Wood might get the funding to get it done. It's insane that this was allowed to happen. But then again; it's insane that the governemnt while making money from tourism never looked into investing into intercity rail. Coach lines were making money so why couldn't a railcar service? Yeah of course trains cost millions each and much more than coaches, but properly maintained: They can have 45-50 years service. Trains are more comfortable and have more pleasant motion than buses and can get you between cities quicker and often for less money than a coach.
