You are awesome and thank you so much for the plug my friend!!! Looks like you made a doggie friend along the way, lol. He or she is too cute! That cellar is awesome and certainly unique. You put good perspectives on the size of that in your video.

Wow WW, I could live in that root/wine cellar! What a beautiful structure! The long rods had U shapes on the ends. They would have had a 2x4 piece of wood that supported a large board shelf. Meat rods would have had large hooks. This accommodated a large hotel no doubt. A average family wouldn't have had the funds to build such a large structure for one, unless they had 40 kids. That would have held enough space to store wine, food, meats, milk and lots more. Quite a livable space. You could build a beautiful home inside there! And I did subscribe to Kathy's channel. Looks really interesting. So Thanks Kindly WW and many more happy discoveries on your journeys! Now to explore Kathys channel and Thanks for the tip! DaveyJO

Very nice Cliff. So much beautiful stone work in those cellars. It really gave a good perspective how large the wine cellar was with you walking around. Amazing! Card was great, love snowmen. Thanks enjoyed going along with you. :)

I love going to the wine cellar, it has a creepy, ‘you’re being watched’ feeling to it. Knowing it was a tuberculosis hospital/retreat at the end of its existence, I can only imagine how many people died on the property. People say neversink is haunted

I was there today looking for the wine cellar - couldn't find it. Jack's loop refers to Jack Gechter who was my uncle and owned this land until he died. We used to hike these trails as kids. I'm 63 now. Jack's house has been razed and the trails have changed a little.

Hi Cliff, some great ruins found by Cathy. That wine cellar/meat locker was absolutely huge but then if it was attached to a resort hotel it would be. Thank you for another awesome hike with some awesome finds. x

My Uncle never had a wine cellar, he did have a beer basement though! He never owned a spring house either, although he did own a fall house...it was over a hundred years old and fell down last year!

Please consider using closed captions on all your videos. It really helps some of us. My favorite part of any video is when you say that we will go together to look at something. 65 years ago the debris was not so high at the entrance otherwise it has not changed much. Are you going to find the round pond/well ..?
@jimmullins1270
@jimmullins1270 Год назад
I’ve found that cool fountain/well before! It’s definitely overgrown right now, I was there two weeks ago. When you went 65 years ago, we’re there more notable ruins around the property/entire mountain?
@bobfognozzle
@bobfognozzle Год назад
@@jimmullins1270 the ruins were just the cold cellar with approximately 4 iron rods hanging from the ceiling. The entrance was about half covered with dirt and rocks. If you stood with your back to the cellar, the pond/well was about 40 feet just to the right.. it had several large goldfish in it..about 9 inches long. No wooden structures remained. Over the hill to the south the hillside was excavated, probably for the gravel or fill dirt. There was a great view of the valley from the top. I lived about a mile away on Dewald road.

Neversink Mountain Preserve has tons of cool history and beautiful views. I just put together a Neversink "Trail Tour" video last week on my mountain bike RU-vid channel, KeystoneMTB. The video showcases a lot (definitely not all) of what this mountain has to offer. I am a local to Reading and this is hands down one of my favorite places to go. Whether its by foot or on bike, this place is worth checking out. Get out and explore!

Hi I think arun the wellhouse was the little hamlet or village.. Downways aroun the cellars were also houses..so i can imagine that was a nice village then.. maybe there was a church somwehere around the house with a cemetery (??)

Saw this place on Random Outdoor Fun a couple of days ago and then your notification came up. A second video gives 2 versions and even though they were similar in the visual aspects, I enjoyed the thoughts of you both on what this place was used for. Was it used as a cellar for one of the hotels that was in the area? Anyhow, another marvelous video Cliff.

THE LARGE CELLAR COULD HAVE BEEN AN ICE HOUSE AS WELL. THEY MAY HAVE HAULED ICE BLOCS BY THE WAGON LOAD AND PLACED IN THERE DURING THE WINTER. THE BLOCS WOULD HAVE LASTED WELL IN TO AND PERHAPS THROUGH THE SUMMER IN THERE.
