We are Valeria and Lukas. Together with our small off-road camper we travel around the world. Since October 2022 we have been on an open end trip to the east.
In this episode we explore the remote Tusheti region and conquer the most dangerous road in Georgia: the Abano Pass.
The adventurous gravel road over the more than 2,800m high Abano Pass is notorious for its many steep switchbacks and the up to 1,000m deep slope along which it runs - a test of courage for all travelers with a fear of heights!
The road itself is sometimes very steep and washed out, but it is quite well developed and should be passable for small off-road vehicles without any problems. (All-wheel drive or low gears and high ground clearance is necessary.)
Attention: the Abano Pass should only be tackled by experienced drivers and in good weather conditions!
In the remote region of Tusheti, quaint stone villages, plenty of fortified towers and dramatic river valleys beckon to be explored. The most famous towns are Omalo, Dartlo (the prettiest village in the region) and Diklo (accessible only for small 4x4 vehicles).
