I have a doubt in assigning inertia to the holder. Point mass is applied to the reference point at the centre of the outer edge of the holder. However in the subsequent step, another reference point is created on the holder at a different point. Can you please elaborate on this point? Where is the reference point created and where is the mass assigned?
Does not even let me select or show at all the point at the middle of the holder when inserting inertia value of the holder. did you guys figure it out?
You can assign the reference point anywhere on the rigid body. It basically represents the whole body to apply boundary condition or something else to the body. You can assign one and only one reference point for each rigid body.

Hi, I didn't quite grasp the transition where you defined the point mass inertia of the holder. The point you select doesn't seem to appear on my screen although I literally followed all the steps you mentioned before.

I have done the same job using different material. Also my model is running forever. I personally think that we should set a criterion to stop the punch otherwise it will move forever. What do you think?? Can we assign the maximum displacement of the punch somehow? Thanks a lot
Good video. But I have some confusion. But the distance between the bottom surface of the punch and the sheet surface should be about 10 instead of 80 according to your results. And there is no need to apply force on the holder. Instead, I constraint it in the Y direction. Aso I am confused about the mass of the holder. Why I have to assign a mass property on a rigid body?
Can I know how much time this simulation wants? I have RAM 4GB with i3 CPU but it's already 3 hours from when abaqus has started to work. Probably I make some mistake but I don't know where! I have followed all your steps :(
Nice tutorial. I had a question regarding the density of the material that you have specified in the material definition. If I am correct in assuming that the units of mass density for the purposes of this simulation is Kg/(mm)^3, then the mass density inputted should be 7.8E-006. However, in the video(around the time 3:51) the mass density was entered as 7.8E-009, which I think is incorrect by 3 orders of magnitude and can considerably change the results for a dynamic test of this kind where inertial effects cannot be ignored.
The simulation results are compared with the experimental data of Ellagoune and Boivin, (Mémoires et Etudes Scientifiques, Revue de Métallurgi, 1988) and steel characteristic and plasticity data were available in Narayanasamy and Sowerby (1995) work.

At 6:58, why do you use that short time period, only 0.09s? I think it must be over 1s at least when doing deep drawing. Because in real life there is no machine can do deep drawing for 0.09s, Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

Nice work. I would like to clarify that since you are using SI(mm) (e.g., density of steel= 7800kg/m3 so you have used 7800E-9) conventions, the point mass has to be in tonne right?. correct me if i'm wrong.

For the plastic material one should define logarithmic strains in the range of 0...1.0 This value is not engineering strain in percent. Be careful with material definition!
