Over the years many have mocked this band but if your grew up in the 70s they were on the radio all the time and whether people will admit it or not everyone has an ABBA song they like....one of the most successful bands in history
The vocal harmonies of Agnetha (the blonde) and Frida (the brunette) are legendary. They're both fantastic singers individually, but when they combine their voices, magic happens. It's one of the reasons why ABBA became the second-biggest band of all time, after the Beatles.
I grew up with all the fabulous music from the 60's-80's. ABBA was one of my favorites. They had lots of hits & I owned many of their albums. I can't think of a bad song by them. Some of their best are "Mama Mia", "Thank You For The Music", "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!", "Waterloo", "Money, Money, Money", "The Name Of The Game", "Super Trouper", "I Have A Dream", "Voulez-Vous", "Fernando", "Chiquitita", "Take A Chance On Me", "SOS", "Knowing Me, Knowing You" etc.
I'm very happy you recognize their respective ranges. These two girls should not be underestimated as their ranges are so wide. Please continue down the ABBA rabbit hole as you will be amazed.
Grew up in 80s listening to metal like Metallica and Suicidal Tendencies, as well as Bob Marley which actually influenced some of the Punk bands I also enjoyed.... but ABBA is still one of my top 3 bands ever. Can't go thousand miles all the time, ABBA just created riffs and sounds that stick in your head for decades.
Disco! You either loved it or hated it. I loved it!!! Every 17 year old girl thought this song was about them at the time! What a great decade for music with no auto tune and over produced performances! Pure talent!
Saw the ABBA tribute show in Branson, MO just last week. They ended the show with Dancing Queen and had 500 people up and dancing in the aisles! 70's music is just so much fun.
I admit - this is my favorite ABBA song and it makes me dance every time. Just about wore out my 45 rpm single back in the day. Great reaction Greg! 🙂❤
I was a teenager during the 70's/80's. It was a wonderful time to be young. People were happier, relationships were closer, life was more care free, and the music was incredible. Attending concerts was a huge thing to do among young people back then. We loved it. Concert tickets were not that expensive at all. The groups my friends and I loved were Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Lynrd Skynrd, Journey, Styx, Foreigner, Triumph, 38 Special, Boston, REO Speedwagon, Rush. I was around the same age as these kids on the dance floor in the video. ABBA is in the top 10 of album/singles sales of all time, selling around 400 million copies. Though I wasn't and am not a huge fan of theirs, their songs bring back a ton of wonderful memories.
This is a Pop culture defining Song!! From the greatest Pop band of the era!! They turned Australia 1976 into madness!! HOW couldn't you know them?!?!? 😳
One of the best groups from the mid /late 70’s disco era. They’ve been inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. The hit musical Mamma Mia is entirely made up of Abba songs. Their upbeat pop music and the incredible vocals are fantastic! I love Abba…100% worth listening to more of their songs!
So enjoyed your reaction to this all time classic hit, #1 worldwide in the day ! Like to see you discover and react to another huge hit of theirs titled 'Take A Chance On Me'
Went this song came out.they would people on the floor and see how long they could dance floor.some dance for hours.and when the last couple dance the longest and this is the dance for.i think the couple dance for 3 hours.Vonnie ❤is ❤❤
This song really did sound amazing at the time, I was a teenager then & WOW, this was my favourite from all their songs, yet I did love ALL of their songs anyway!!!!! xx
I just had to see your face on this one. I'm a Home Free fan, aka Home Fry, but I roller-skated to this song, so I just had to see your face. But I'm telling you we all still love this song. A classic. They really are an amazing group, vocally and as musicians, but still ... your face.
ABBA could write a song about clubbing baby seals to death and it would still sound like a happy song. It's so great to see the entire band smiling throughout the performance.
This week ABBA Gold (best of) is # 23 on the English albums chart Top 100 23 # is quite high considering that it's week 1 125 and that's over 22 Years ABBA never gets old
Great reaction Bro....awh hell ABBA you talking about one of the most successful bands in pop music history with more than 300 million album sales worldwide. Consider this, they broke up 40 years ago and STILL sale 2 million records a year TODAY!
You have just listened to one of the biggest hits from the 2nd biggest selling group after the Beatles. They had 9 number 1 singles in the Uk alone and 8 no.1 albums. Their ABBA Gold greatest hits album stayed in the UK top 40 for 10 years. 18 months ago they release an album of new material 40 years after their last while in their 70's (it wasinitially a lockdown project for the boys) The men wrote all their material. You were bang on about the voices Agnetha (blond) is soprano, Anni-frid (brunette) is metz soprano so the blend and compliment each other beautifully.
Swedish band that had some pretty good hits. The 2 guys of the band could speak very good english, but the 2 girls could not. They could understand it better than they could speak it...which I thought was odd. Anyway...great reaction!
Hhmm, maybe not fully true. English became compulsory in SWE schools post WW2 so they would all have had familiarity to start with. Whilst it would be accurate that the guys had the greatest fluency, as their careers took off (particularly in English speaking markets), they all needed to develop "competence". Frida has certainly remained a fluent speaker although Angetha somewhat less so due to lack of use given her low profile for many years.
How people have missed this song is crazy! But it is old now so haha... "Different times" a comment said, no haha, different country. 15 is legal in Sweden and we're very... liberated. They start early here.
They wanted to appeal to the teenagers, I guess that's why the dancing queen is 17, it's not about them it's about their audience of the time, problematic today but back then it didn't raise any eyebrows, anyway, it is a really good song and one that will be remembered forever, a true classic!
Probably the best group ever, (excluding the Beatles)decades of world wide success, 70'S 80'S 90'S and hit after hit if you haven't heard this group before-where the hell have you been? Here are some of their No1's- Gimme Gimme Gimme, Lay all your love on me, Money Money Money, The winner takes it all, Mama Mia, Chiquitita, Dancing Queen, The name of the game, I have a dream, Waterloo, Thank you for the music, and Does your mother know? Knowing you knowing me, Super trooper, Voulez nous, Take a chance on me, Fernando, Thank you for the music. etc.....
ABBA A - Agnetha (blonde) B - Bjorn (Keyboards) B - Benny (Guitar) A - Anni-frid (brunette) Agnetha and Bjorn were married to each other, and Anni-frid and Benny were married to each other.
You've got to listen to "the Roches". American folk. 3 sisters and amazing minor chord vocals. Try: Losing True Road to Hammond My Sick Mind That just scratches the surface.
Certainly NOT their native tongue but given English became a compulsory language in SWE schools post WW2, they would've had a base "familiarity" and given much of their "business" was in English speaking markets, greater fluency would have followed.
Both beautiful ladies had fabulous vocal ranges and combined flawlessly in their middle registers but most of the higher notes and harmonies were by Agnetha (the blonde) and most of the lower notes and harmonies were by Anni-Frid (the brunette). Your comments and appreciation of both their glorious voices is perfect. The lyrics are "Dancing queen, young and sweet, only 17" ... or as my grandmother sings it when she's dancing to it now "... nearly 70" or "... only seven teeth". 😂
Loved ABBA. Such an unusual sound. Probably beca they were not American. They barely spoke English. Was it Switzerland they were from? Norway? Those girls were so pretty and wore some of the coolest clothes. Lol
