@@jamelakajamal .....Even if it gets BLOCKED.....on your own.....check out the 'live' performance of 'Silver Springs' by Fleetwood Mac. From their concert/album/DVD.....called 'The Dance'. Stevie Nicks singing directly to Lindsay Buckingham, as he's killing' it on lead guitar. I think she had written it back in the day, before they had ever even joined Fleetwood Mac.. Some heavy emotional tension there.
I know Dancing Queen is what most people consider peak ABBA, but Knowing Me Knowing You has always been the one for me. The harmonizing in that chorus is so damned sweet.
Abba is the second largest selling group of all time. Unreal beauty in their voices. I m a rock and roller, but this music really moves me. Besides, these two ladies are HOT HOT HOT!!
Now that the years have passed, I can appreciate the depth of this song a lot more than I did when it first came out. The way they express their emotions through their eyes. Wow! Thanks, Jamel, this was a great choice!
This was earlier in their career - the two couples in Abba were still together when they recorded this and made the video. The drama is just the magic of Abba at this stage in their career. My favourite Abba video. 👍
Ah yes, I remember clearing out my house when my now ex-husband and I were going our separate ways. We'd had a son and there were a lot of good memories in that house. We even went to the court house to get the divorce together and after he dropped me off at home and we both cried and hugged. But we had definitely grown apart and we were meant to be for the time that we were. ABBA has left us soo many great, iconic songs! : )
To show their worldwide influence, my wife is from Vietnam and ABBA is one of the few western singers/groups she was familiar with prior to moving to the USA.
My favorite Abba song. The brunette Frida, (though she dyed her hair blond), went on to a solo career. She had a hit in 1983 called *"I Know There's Something Going On,"* with Phil Collins on drums. The ladies were good friends. They were each married to one of the guys, which is where you get the name "Abba" from...
@AngryPostmanSthlm2 ~ Oh wow, someone stole your records. I would have been really ticked off. I myself have most of my vinyl still. Including 45's. I never had this song on a 45 though. In '83 I was a 16 year old on limited funds so...😏 But I know exactly what you're saying. Music is everything. You can take my clothes, and DVD's (not the concerts though), etc... But not my music collection...
"Knowing Me, Knowing You" was one of the early ABBA songs to deal with the break-up of a relationship. It predates the divorces of the ABBA members as well as further break-up songs to come:
They were professionals first and foremost. Me personally, I couldn't have given up on either one of those girls, beautiful, talented with voices of angels...PEACE!!!
I got into rock and metal in 1976 but this was some of the music that I grew up with. Abba were the perfect pop band. Feel quite nostralgic after hearing this!
They were a huge commercial enterprise. They were one of the biggest bands in the world and are estimated today as a group to have a net worth around 1 billion dollars. I remember being in a Disco in Spain in 82 and when one of their songs came up EVERYONE started dancing. They were much bigger Internationally than they ever were in the USA and they were pretty damn successful in the US.
Like so many ABBA songs this song doesn’t have just one hook but multiple ones. And there is that countermelody the guys sing in the chorus, which is almost Bach like.
I saw ABBA in concert (first concert in went to) in Adelaide Australia in March 1977. Knowing Me Knowing You has been one of my favourite songs. Their songs were everywhere in Australia in the 70s so glad that more people are appreciative of their music.
ABBA was always the best in song-writing, production and performance. Outstanding craft ! Not my choice of music - but - TOP in all categories . I lift my hat to ABBA !
Since 1992, the brunette/redhead (Anni-Frid) is a bona-fide Princess of a ancient European Royal House. So there is the artist known as 'Prince' and a real Princess in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame since ABBA's induction..
Indeed, without the inner turmoil, would Rumors have ever happened the way it did?! The one-two punch of Go Your Own Way and Dreams would likely not have been created!
Of course, with ABBA there were no issues back in 1976. The lyrics were written by their manager Stig 'Stikkan' Andersson. So maybe his marriage had problems. They just reenacted what the song was about. Just fiction as many of their other songs.
This song/video will always break my heart, even the next hundred times I watch/hear it before I die. Had this album when I was 8 and I it kicked me in the gut then.
Indeed... i believe they at a point had problem with separating their relationships and their careers. They took it too far, so a comeback was impossible. A break in late 70s might have helped at least the band.
I think this was before the divorces - The winner takes it all - is one you need to hear - even though they deny its autobiographical- I don’t believe them 😂
@@josmith4173 according to wiki Arrivals which this song is taken from was released in 1976.. song could've been written a year before that. Seems quite early to be airing a break-up/divorce.
@West Coast Courier As I wrote, if you look at my previous comment, the lyrics were written by their manager Stig 'Stikkan' Andersson and is just fiction, it's not autobiographical. As many lyrics are. Agnetha and Bjorn separated in 1979. Benny and Frida married in 1978 and divorced in 1981 when Benny met a new woman, Mona Nörklit. With whom he's still married.
I've never seen a band capture the pain of relationship break up like ABBA. Thanks for yet another choice of a great tune, that's why I subscribed. 🦌⛤⛧🤘🇬🇧
I loved these guys and so many genres from this era. I never thought it would end. I thought the bands and hits would happen forever. Even though i embraced it i still feel i took it for granite
One of my faves, especially with Frida taking the lead on this one. Beautiful music and HEARTBREAKING! They did continue to hold it together for a while. Their last album "The Visitors" released in 1981 has some excellent songs, but as they went back in the studio to begin working on the next one, they all agreed they just couldn't do it. They also couldn't complete the video for the title track of "The Visitors", another of Frida's good leads, though there is a pretty good pastiche of clips and images set to the song as a vid. "When All is Said and Done" is another of Frida's from that same album with a great vid, and also a breaking up song
This song reminds me of the beach and going on the pier and watching the shark jaws on the wall. Every time I heard this song when it came out was when I was going to the beach. Good memories to go with a powerful song.
...I (66 y.) love the 60s and 70s music most Rock like Grand Funk, DeepPurple etc. but I also love Abba, why not ? love also your reaction, hope you don't stop...best to you and all the good people, PEACE
Knowing Me Knowing You, was a huge hit too. You should review "Eagle", a song that Abba made and was 50 years ahead of its time...! Still sounds ahead of today... timeless music. But you HAVE to watch the long original Abba EAGLE-video with the eagle flying along the mountains to really capture the uniqueness of one of the longest and most original Abba songs ever.
Still not true, no matter how many times you state it. Björn wrote almost all the English lyrics. How can you do that without knowing the language? Swedes had mandatory English in school even in these days (plus German and/or French, typically). Agnetha was not very comfortable speaking English, though.
Dig a little deeper, and react to Frida's (Anni-Frid Lingstad) "I Know There's Something Going On," a worldwide hit in '82 and '83 (#13 on the US pop charts, 3/83). It was written by Russ Ballard (former lead singer/guitarist for Argent), with the single (and attendant album) produced by Phil Collins! Phil also contributed harmony vocals and drums on "I Know"!
I was about to suggest that. Phil is harmonizing with Anni-Frid (Frida) on the chorus and playing the drums! Also her ex Benne co created the musical CHESS "One Night In Bangkok"
What I don't understand is how the video Jamel was watching skipped ahead, his video *didn't* skip ahead, and yet the music video ended exactly when he finished watching. How was this possible? Did I miss a place where Jamel skipped video of himself, equal to the amount that was skipped in the video he was watching?
Love your shirt man ! Everyone should wear this and show that under the the big waves, the water is calm and respect and kindness for one and other is our foundation !
They only toured the USA once!!! Said they never would again. And did not, as far as I know. Gosh I love ABBA💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 my 45 record was so so worn out playing this song for hours!!!
Love your t'shirt! I regret I'm not good to write my thoughts in English. Since I've discovered your channel, 5-6 weeks, I'm impressed to your sensibility discovering music that made my youth, teenage and young adult years, and made, someway, what I have became : an old mother of 4 teenage, young adults liking and playing Music, no matter what kind.
When this song was released it was 2 years before Agnetha & Bjorn divorced but it was the beginning of the end for their marriage. I’m from Perth, Western Australia and was 14 when this song came out. Still one of the best pop ballads ever. Still love them.
2:35 Agnetha and Frida was put in a large flower pot by director Lasse Hallström, which was then manually rotated by his assistent. Videos were cheaper to make in the 1970s. :D
More like, they had no money to make them. I think the director had 5 grand to work with to make this and 2 other videos. And this was at the dawn of music video, bridging the gap between what the Beatles made in the 60s and what MTV would become in the 80s.
@@thescott7539 Abba/Polar certainly had money in 1976-81 when most of these films were made. But they were not seen as extremely important, so they never went neurotic about it (like today's artists).
@@herrbonk3635 Well yeah, they could have spent more, but there wasn't a return on investment seen from it. The Beales did it to replace touring and appearing on shows like Top Of The Pops. ABBA ddidn't need that, but it's awesome that they still went and made these. For what they cost, they squeezed every last bit out of them.
@@thescott7539 That's actually exactly why Abba made them, to replace touring. They didn't enjoy travel very much, especially not by plane and long periods away from home. Benny talked about this as late as a few weeks ago in a Swedish interview.
Gotta love ABBA but Jamel.... when, oh when are you going to get after some Earth, Wind and Fire??? Did I miss it??? Hope not cuz I know you are gonna dig it! Why not start with ‘You Can’t Hide Love’? Talk about a slow burning groooove! Woohooo!
I was around back then, and when this song came out we suspected that there was trouble in ABBA land. Agnetha could really convey heartbreak on her face. I think she could have been a good actress. And no, this was far from their last song together, Watching Anna while they perform "The Winner Takes It All" is truly heartbreaking. Especially in the official video.
It's amazing how much is said with so few words in this song. They all went on to other relationships, but they did stay in touch. In fact they had a reunion a few years ago. and now are making some new music.
Greetings from Australia, Jamel 👋😃🐨🦘🦜✨ This song and film-clip were done during the heyday of ABBA, in 1976, when both couples were still happy and together; the break-ups /divorces didn't happen for a few years yet; but the acting in such ABBA film-clips was good to make it believable, just like in their 'The Winner Takes It All' clip done four years later (which is another 'sad break-up' song of ABBA's from 1980 - lead by Agnetha, but while Björn & Agnetha had also divorced by that stage, photos of behind-the-scenes of when they recorded that clip show some good fun and silliness being shared between all of ABBA). Acting-qualities for all but two ABBA's film-clips came from the Swedish film director, Lasse Halström (he went on to direct successful and well-known movies like: 'My Life as a Dog', 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape', 'The Cider House Rules', 'Chocolat' and 'The Shipping News'). • I'd like to request a reaction to a song that came from ABBA's final studio album form 1981 (with the same name): 'The Visitors'. It is very different from their pop and ballad songs, with ambiguous lyrics, which led many a fan to different interpretations (which I feel added to the quality of the song), although Björn later disclosed what his meaning was. I won't tell you his meaning at this point, as I think it's an enjoyable journey to discover one's own interpretation to 'The Visitors' 😉👍. There was no film-clip made for that song, but there is a RU-vid link to the song (and the rest of that album, with its bonuses): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T_xFpjlrF38.html Cheerio 😁
