As a chronically depressed person who is having an extremely tough time in life I am no stranger to negativity but Abba may be one of the few bands where every song feels happy and uplifting to the extent that even I can feel it. I am extremely grateful for them and their music.
I broke up with my girlfriend of 5 years about 8 months ago. One of my best memories is literally our last summer, a week's holiday to Rhodos, Greece. I haven't cried since we broke up, i even felt it was weird. listened to loads of emotional songs and just felt good, we broke up for good reasons. Heard this song all of the sudden on the radio and started bawling my eyes out like never before. Just the combination of her and me loving abba and that last summer being the last time we were truly happy together.....damn.
Let me tell you the legend of Thor and Jane. He was a God of Thunder and she, a woman of science. And although they were from différent worlds… somehow, it just made sense. And together they embarked on a journey of love. Thor taught Jane the way of the warrior… And Jane taught Thor the way of the people. And as time passed, their love grew deeper and deeper. Thor : She’s incredible, isn’t she Mjolnir? Thor : I need you promise me you protect her. Thor : I love you Too Buddy. And love that deep has a Way of booming magical Thor set his sights toward a future… And all it might hold.
I literally couldn't focus on that scene in the cinema because this song was playing. Been an ABBA fan for almost 50 years and Our Last Summer is one of my all time faves from them.
This is a game changer for me. I always thought Agnetha was the voice of ABBA but hearing Anni-frid nail this is really special. The vibrato is faultless , the soaring crescendo in the last chorus had me gasping. Quite simply...she could hold her own against any top female vocalist out there.
_"Quite simply...she could hold her own against any top female vocalist out there."_ They both are great, even amazing, and it's not _entirely_ fair to compare vocalists decades apart (since vocal techniques change and get improved a good bit every noe and then), but even without getting into actual opera singers, may I recommend taking a look at Floor Jansen? I'd argue that she outclasses both Agnetha and Anni-Frid... Just give the official live video of Nightwish's "Storytime" a try and you'll get a _little_ hint of what I'm talking about 🥰
Hearing this song in the background while watching Thor: Love and Thunder had me go searching on RU-vid. It's one of my favorite songs by ABBA. Dad used to play it on our cassette. 😁
There will never be another group that does for me what ABBA did. Truly beautiful music, and I have yet to hear two women whose voices compliment each other so well. All of them can sing, but Anni-Frid and Agnetha were just perfection.
@@rosshaines9717What makes the ABBA girls special is they are opposites and not related. They started to sing together as adults after meeting their boyfriends, Benny and Bjorn. They clicked as if they were singing siblings. That is when the BB's knew they just hit the jackpot with AA. Thier two different styles, classical from Frida and pop from Agnetha makes them very unique. Siblings have a natural harmonic and unison connection through shared DNA and growing up singing together. Yet the ABBA girls have no family relations like the Wilson sisters, Everly Brothers, The Louvin Brothers, The Andrew Sisters, The Osmonds and the lost goes in and on... The ABBA girls very different styles and approaches are opposite (classical and pop), yet work together perfectly.
they started off looking like just another pop group but then listening to their music, their words the music they created had real meaning and performed so brilliantly well. Yes the best group ever
I am 13 years old and have always loved ABBA. When I was little, my Nanny and I used to blast out their songs on an old CD in the car. This and "Thank You For the Music" are my all-time favourites.
She did not win all those talent hunts for no reason. As a kid she swept them all. Her big break was her National Best Vocalist win in 1967, after 10 years on stage.
@Юлия Гладышева I read that Pütin has Parkinsons disease. Is true? He is trying to pass legislation that would give ex-Presidents immunity from prosecution for life, so that seems to indicate it is true.
@Юлия Гладышева Ok thanks for the insight. I hope both Pütin and Trümp will be gone soon. The world will be a free-er, better place without Trümpütin. 👺
We grew up listening to ABBA music on another side of the planet because my dad is a huge fan and had ABBA cassettes from his college days. We didn't have access to a lot of entertainment back in the day but we had this great music and these songs would always remain with us.
AbbA is not just an epoch, not just a feeling. Abba is a thought that continues to spin from adolescence to old age. Every note and every vibration in their tune, let me believe in a time when much was better. A kiss today is valuable, a kiss on an Abba song is unforgettable, incomparable and priceless.
I'm too young for this. Why do I almost have tears in my eyes when I see those old pictures an hear this music from another era? I feel like I have been born at the wrong time, I feel like I have missed something essential...
I feel like this band is still not getting enough credit for how good they were.... Christ. Incredible music that really touches the human soul...❤️ if u dont like abba you certainly have weird taste for music... I mean it wasn’t even their native language and such amazing lyrics. Bennys amazing composition bjorn lyrics and the two incredible voices of the ladies.... combine these four together and u get nothing but magic🌟✨ even individually each were so talented. I know agnetha plays piano, can sing, can act and she even composed prior to abba=supergroup!! Combining four individuals each so talented and this is the result🌟
Michael Tretow, ABBA's engineer in an interview (on RU-vid somewhere) gave Frida the ultimate compliment. He discribed Frida's voice as "hi-fi" (High-fidelity).
Never in history of music was there such a magical blending of voices such as the ABBA’s! I will never get tired of listening to their music they’re for all ages!
The chorus always makes me want to cry. That melody will forever be in my mind. They sang for every heart.. every emotion.. and every dream.. and for every generation..❤💖
This song makes me nostalgic thinking back on the summer I had with a new love, how we travelled together and had an amazing time, but also the regrets of not expressing our love properly, of insecurities and unadressed feelings and how we departed to each our countries on opposite sides of the world. This song brings up both joy of what was and sadness of what could have been.
The most beautiful song by the best group ever. Frida's voice is absolutely beautiful. I've heard it thousands of times and I will continue to do so forever. Fell in love with it the first time I heard it back in 1980 when I was a kid.
HIMMLISCH STIMME VON FRIDA . SUPER SONG UND FANTASTISCH MUSIK IMMER . ABBA IST WUNDERBAR . MEIN LIEBE SCHWEDISCHE UND WELTKLASSE POP GRUPPE . 🇸🇪 💎👌 THE ABBA MUSIC IS LIKE HOW INSPIRED FOR ANGELS . NOTHING COMPARES TO ABBA MUSIC LEVEL IN THE WORLD DEFINITELY . ABBA IS ONLY PURE "GOLD POP MUSIC" FOREVER . OMG , WHAT A VIBRATO POWER'S ANNI- FRID LYNGSTAD IN THIS WONDERFUL MAGIC SONG !!! THIS SUPER POP GROUP'S VERY GOOD IN ALL ASPECT .
GODDESS Frida... you make me cry with this song in particular, I prefer to be honest. Do not know why, maybe that feeling of nostalgia coming from the lyrics, or your divine voice, or both... who knows. Fom Italy with eternal RESPECT and LOVE... Franco.
Frida es una cantante extraordinaria, su manera de ligar las notas, de mantenerlas en el tiempo, de darles el vibrato y la intensidad apropiada...... una maravilla !!!
Back in my teens I listened to this song. Am now in my 50s and am still listening to it. I think I will be listening to it for decades to come. Thank you, ABBA, for the memories.
I had a yard of beer and went to see Thor. Playing an ABBA song I never heard of during a relationship montage got quite a few tears out of me. Im a 45 year old man and was overcome by the beauty of this song. Seeing Thor in a hot dog suit was the best thing ever.
@@OfelinaBello It is a pleasure to meet you here, I am from the Houston TX, But i live in Rockford, Illinois, And I hope we can talk and get to know each other better.
“The more he pondered a life with Jane, the more he feared losing that life. And although Jane won’t admit it, she was scared of the loss as well. So, they built walls between them. Thor got busy saving humanity. Jane got busy doing the same. Real busy. And eventually the space between them grew and grew until it became too wide to bare. Something had to give.”
ABBA is supreme in this genre, I love it; in Prog-Rock I love Genesis, both bands from the Seventies; both are masters at handling harmonic progressions, the quintessential stuff of European classical music.
Beautiful, natural, people and music. That was in Sweeden I found this country very attractive to live. Nowadays this is memory... Greetings from Poland.
The ABBA melodies are eternal. Most of their numbers ,at some point of time while listening, bring tears to my eyes. That's the power of the pure kind of melodies they have composed.May Almighty God keep them happy and healthy for many many years to come.
This song is incredibly beautiful, Its a manifesto, something to be sent to the space to show them what the man and the woman can do. Thank you Abba, you saved us. 😍
The summer air was soft and warm The feeling right, the Paris night Did it's best to please us And strolling down the Elysee We had a drink in each cafe And you You talked of politics, philosophy and I Smiled like Mona Lisa We had our chance It was a fine and true romance I can still recall our last summer I still see it all Walks along the Seine, laughing in the rain Our last summer Memories that remain We made our way along the river And we sat down in the grass By the Eiffel tower I was so happy we had met It was the age of no regret Oh yes Those crazy years, that was the time Of the flower-power But underneath we had a fear of flying Of getting old, a fear of slowly dying We took the chance Like we were dancing our last dance I can still recall our last summer I still see it all In the tourist jam, round the Notre Dame Our last summer Walking hand in hand Paris restaurants Our last summer Morning croissants Living for the day, worries far away Our last summer We could laugh and play And now you're working in a bank A family man, a football fan And your name is Harry How dull it seems Yet you're the hero of my dreams I can still recall our last summer I still see it all Walks along the Seine, laughing in the rain Our last summer Memories that remain I can still recall our last summer I still see it all In the tourist jam, 'round the Notre Dame Our last summer Walking hand in hand Paris restaurants Our last summer Morning croissants (we were) Living for the day, worries far away
Frida had the more sophisticated vocal centric leads. Agnetha was more pop oriented - more of a sing-songy type. Frida had the more sophisticated classical style, hence the reason she got assigned all those vocal centric leads, particularly during the final two albums, when they moved into more mature sophisticated material and less sing-songy pop stuff.
There is something magical about this ABBA song. It stir my heart and brings tear everytime I listen. It brings back the most memorable time of my life. Nothing else can do that.
Leben am Limit 3rd only 2 the Jam and my all time favourite band and my heroes 4ever ie The Human League. Sorry m8. But(in my opinion) the Human League r Ace. And far better than ABBA. And r still going strong.
I just love them. They know music and my best is Andante. Thanks for sacrificing ur love life to help us appreciate love and all the comes with it through music
The advantage Abba has is that their music will never annoy you. Imagine waiting for your delayed plane to make a move from the departure gate, and over the sound system all they play is the usual radio standards: you'd just feel your brain suddenly start rotting. But if Abba were played, and this number, you'd be in a lighter, more pleasant mood, able to appreciate life, even then, on a crowded plane, waiting to go.
Yeah, I worked at a cafe a few years back - they played these albums over... and over, it got real annoying soon enough. xD Still love these songs though.
Stephanie That says it all. I have always felt so sorry for shop workers, hotel workers, café workers (I have been all), having to listen to stuff played over and over, particularly at Christmas. I once stayed in a hotel where they played Simply Red at breakfast, dinner and tea until I had to say: enough. If you still like the songs, they are timeless and wonderful.
So many times i enjoyed ABBA music for instance when i dance (dancing queen), laughed (when i kissed the teacher), felt consoled (the way old friends do), renewed my hope (i have a dream). i still have faith in ABBA and its funs, i see it now through all these years that faith had lived on (i still have faith). thank you ABBA
More than 11 millions views and Comments in many different languages: English, French, Portuguese, Russian...To an underrated song released (about) 40 years ago??? Well well, well. Sorry Beatles, Elvis and Michael...You are extraordinary ones, but...ABBA rules...
Absolutely True....ABBA Rule and will for a long time...especially this song...'The summer air was soft and warm The feeling right, the Paris night Did it's best to please us And strolling down the Elysee We had a drink in each cafe And you You talked of politics, philosophy and I Smiled like Mona Lisa We had our chance It was a fine and true romance'
I literally heard this for the first time in "Thor: Love and Thunder" in a montage of Thor and Jane's relationship before Jane realized they were going in two different directions and she sent him a Dear John letter...
At my grandads funeral recently, we had a video with pictures of his life with this song playing along with it. It was so lovely and sad at the same time x

Frida was ABBA's pro vocalist. Also she was ABBA's stage pro. Who says? The ENTIRE ABBA team. As do the informed ABBA fans who know their history. READ!!! the history of ABBA. Not all the fluff and rainbow and lollipop stories. Carl Magnus Palm is ABBA's unofficial official historian. Over 30 years of research. He is the go to ABBA history. He loves ABBA, but he does not sugar coat stuff and he gives credit where credit his due. _______ ABBA: Bright Lights Dark Shadows The Real Story of ABBA by Carl Magnus Palm Carlmagnuspalm.com Real all his ABBA books. And watch all his doc's. Re: the girls vocal abilities. They are discussed. Frida gets lots of attention. She was the groups pro vocalist. And also the on stage, front and center pro (which was her roots since 1956). The girls backgrounds, personal and professional are completely opposite. Striking different, particularly their childhoods. Agnetha - perfect childhood. Frida - a lost childhood. Benny, Bjorn and Michael Tretow - ABBA's engineer, considered Frida a master vocalist as did her peers. The 'Frida Ensam' (Frida Alone) project of 1974-75 happened for a reason. It was basically ABBA without Agnetha. Why? What if the foursome did not click, as is exactly what happened during the winter cabaret shows of 1970/71. Agnetha got called out by the media - pitch issues, off key, strained, etc.... Agnetha was a record label pop star, not a LIVE front and center focal point entertainer. If your not comfortable in front of lights, cameras, audiences, standing front and center, bad things will happen. You get exposed. That happened. Front and center is Frida's background since 1956. Then pro at 13, 1958, when she became "legal". The foursome also was not doing their own material. They all hated it. What was the result: They lost Frida over those shows. The foursome was done. No future ABBA. Frida had the pull. Frida held the ticket -- her vocal skills and her on stage and TV experience. Stig then offered her a sweet deal. After Frida agreed to rejoin, Stig named them ABBA.
ABBA songs are not simple. They are very hard to copy. Lots of layers. Buried melodies. Counterpoint. Buried vocals. Complex arrangements. Classical in nature. Vocal phrasing, particularly on Frida lead songs.
Great collection of photos. You can really see how Abba was more than just a hugely successful band. It was also 2 couples that genuinely enjoyed each other's company and had lots of fun together.😊
To those who use to tell me, "oh ABBA there just a pop group" listen to the word of this song, all the emotion they put in is incredible... Brilliant today 2020 as when it was first released...
