Abbath "Dread Reaver" Review 

Odd. I think it's the best his done in decades. I'm absolutely loving it.

Abbath's rehab clean up will get his 4th cd in a better vibe next.

It's a weird album, I need to listen to it again a couple times . You should check out "Plague God" by Absent in Body, a new post metal band featuring members from Amenra, Neurosis and Iggor Cavalera. It's a solid album

I love this album now it grows for me. First listen it was awful but the second time I was in love with it now I will buy it.

I bought the big pre- order package for the first album, I thought it was just good but I never wanted to listen to it so I sold it and gave up on Abbath. I don't regret it now

Dave Grohl has released a metal album for the first time since 2004. The project is called "Dream Widow".

Along with Ghost and Dark Funeral this is third major release of 2022 I enjoy that many seem not to. Check out the new Falls Of Rauros album that dropped yesterday. Top shelf atmospheric black metal that I'm confident you will appreciate. Their back catalog is on Bindrune and are all worth a listen as well.

Man, once again your review has hit the nail on the head when it comes to my thoughts. I mean you literally took the words out of my mouth on how I would describe this album. This album was a real letdown.

I mean i enjoyed the album. Well i enjoyed what i could hear over the overly compressed drums. There is a reason artist should not mix their albums sometimes and this is a perfect example. I think there is some really good music in there you just cant hear it with all the over compression and saturation going on.

i recall getting 'Pure Holocaust" when it came out and I got hooked right away with Immortal. I started losing interest when "Damned In Black" came out though,. I do enjoy the first 2 Abbath albums slightly better but "Northern Chaos Gods" smokes anything from his solo stuff.

I love this record i love evry song on the album i love it.

I thought this album was okay. I loved the riffs on it but something about the production is a bit off. I prefer Abbath’s debut and Outstrider more but it’s still not a bad album, it’s just okay.

I've been jamming and discovering some immortal lately I really dig the f@#k out of them I was always wondering how those abbath albums were

I'm enjoying this more than Outstrider, really like the direction he is taking these songs, more heavy metal influenced. Like his vocal variety as well. Production does kind of have a large wall of sound to it, but also kind of sounds like a "live" feel to me. Doesn't really bother me much.

This album was not released in Russia.So....Music without politics?

I listened to Dream Cull and that was enough for me. Immortal is killer, the first two abbath records were good. This was not impressive at all

Listened to this yesterday. I thought it was just OK. His first two were pretty cool, and that last Immortal album was bad ass. I won't be buying this one, though. Now, all I can think about is the new Meshuggah. That band will not let me down.

The production really let the album down unfortunately. There's good riffs, solos and drumming there at times when they can be heard.

Its funny how i was attacked on his posts with the singles by fans that were all over this on his page and hearing the probs and now being right that it would suck

Only know Immortal cause I saw them in 2003. Abbath just doesn’t appeal at all to me.

Cut and paste my comment on Facebook but yeah….not good. I did enjoy his first two solo albums and love his “I” record but this one? Woof! It’s definitely the fastest heaviest record he’s done in a loooooong while including his later Immortal days. However…..the production is bad! and his vocals are too far back in thr mix. I hear waaay too much distortion in this album. It’s too noisy. The Metallica cover needs to get off this thing too. All it does is make me want to put on Ride the Lightning for the millionth time. I don’t know man, fast and brutal is great! Im all for it but there is zero substance here for me. This thing feels like all he was doing was trying to compete with Demonaz’s last Immortal album which kind of went back to the earlier sound a bit. Well? If that’s the case it failed. I hate to say it but Demonaz is putting out better stuff now.

I get it's debatable but for me it's good album from Abbath, although it's way way too short only 35min... (without metallica cover). Overall another good one from Norwegian nut. Let's give him a break this time he had difficult time in last few years, so this LP is like recovery Im sure next one will be full killer.

I saw this album wasn't being very highly praised. And I can understand why, it's just not good. I didn't even make it through the first listen, so fair play to you for listening twice. Well done 🤣 I definitely agree with Myrmidon, that actually starts off really well but then just dives off a fucking cliff in the most frustrating way. Probably the only track that showed any promise in the first place which makes it all the more annoying! The rest of it was just terrible to me. I think maybe this may be a case of trying a bit too hard and cramming too many ideas in? 🤣

My problem with this album is that the production is terrible. You cannot really hear the music. You turn up the volume and it hurts your ears and it still just sounds like a horrible mess. Which is a real shame….I have no doubt that if we could actually hear this appropriately then some interesting music would be revealed.

In a year in which pure wrath, in aphelion and deathspell omega have all released excellent black metal albums this just doesn't cut it. I'm enjoying it when it's on but there's no chance I'll remember hearing it by year end.
