0:37 I'm not so sure, I'm starting to think they often are just Bad People. And in many instances understanding that they're bad people is much more helpful than assuming they have coherent rationale behind their beliefs and if you just made the right argument you could persuade them. For example, my cousin somehow turned out incredibly conservative and one day after hours of conversation I finally talk him into a corner and he exclaims why should I give a fuck about "Human Happiness and Sustainability?!" We were out in public and at this point people started giving him looks so we changed the topic. But I think that really might be the average conservative. They're not stupid, they're probably not even THAT ignorant, they're greedy, entitled and apathetic, in short, bad people. I now think the best way to engage with them is to not try and change their mind, but rather to demonstrate to them the majority of what they believe is stupid, incoherent, or blatantly evil (like forcing 10 year olds to give birth to rape babies). Yes I think we need to shame them for being bad people, appealing to reason has failed for decades.
