Fantastic tv spot. I never got to experience the 1970s; wasn't even alive then. This commercial makes me feel so nostalgic for a time and place I can never travel to, but does make you feel sad seeing this fascinating decade come to an end. That's helped a lot by the fantastic music and singing. I know a lot of people who prefer the 1977 "Still the one" commercials, and I can completely understand that, as they are a lot better cut. But this one just has this beautiful sadness that works, like you're re contextualising a decade. I don't think it's impossible, but I haven't seen something like this that could make me feel something for a decade of today.

So many wonderful memories...this was back when getting the "New Fall Season" issue of TV Guide, and then watching all of the shows' (old and new) premieres in September was an exciting event that everybody waited for after summer had ended...aahh! Good times that are sadly gone now...thanks for the beautiful trip back to 1979, if only for 3 minutes! I thoroughly enjoyed it! Take Care! Ms. Elizabeth🎥📀📹📼

This was always my favorite ABC promo campaign. The 70s were coming to a close and a new decade of great TV was approaching.

Yes indeed, ABC was #1 and at the top of the Nielsens in 1979. And deservedly so. Every one of these shows was ‘must-see TV’ that year. Even short-lived series like Angie and The Ropers were fun to watch. How I wish network television could be this good and family-friendly today.

Some of these shows were not considered "family friendly" in their time. There were howls of complaints about Three's Company, Charlie's Angels and The Love Boat bringing in the era of "Jiggle TV". Sure, they look innocent viewed from today's modern lens, but they sure weren't looked at that way in the '70s.

ABC REALLY started kicking ass, especially in the news division. Beginning with the then-new World News Tonight (Frank Reynolds, Max Robinson, Peter Jennings, Barbara Walters) and Roone Arledge taking over ABC News (while still managing ABC Sports), the news division got turned around. Thanks to Arledge and his innovative badassery, ABC News gained momentum.

Minneapolis/St. Paul 1979... ABC gets taken out of their TV ratings doldrums in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota when former NBC affiliate KSTP 5 picks up ABC...as a result KMSP-TV 9, the former ABC station, becomes an independent station and WTCN-TV 11 (later WUSA 11, now KARE 11), an independent station, becomes the new NBC affiliate.

2:37--Oh, the eighties arrived alright. Most of the ABC shows represented here were aging and had peaked in popularity, and the bulk of the new decade belonged to NBC.
