omg i didn't realise being an actor was so difficult and boring with that green thing without music and everyone walking around you can't even concentrate
So hard to take seriously with the green screen, lol. It's amazing how actors can do that and still have it look believable when they put everything together :)
It must be so hard to act hard, powerful action scenes on a green screen. Lana is amazing. One of the few actresses who can make me fall in love with her character yet do so many evil things. Eep!!
So that was actually quite fascinating. I had no idea that some of the CSGI (i think i have that wrong) was done before the filming, so that the could see it on screen and also see it on the green screen. The actors have to have great imaginations in order to be able to see and feel their surroundings when using a green screen, so they can interact with the environment that their audience will see. And kudos to the boom guys!
That CGI shown on the screen there is just a preview, to give the director etc an idea of what the final will look like - none of that makes it to the final shot - hence how shaky & dodgy the green screen effect is.
I love this show! It brings back all the classic fairy tales, but turning them into something new. The actors and actresses have such remarkable talents! It is amazing watching as they make these characters their own! Well done!!
Thank you Lana for sharing these clips. They make us more aware of the hard work you all have/had in making the show a success. Everyone from the grips and the actors to the film editors and directors put a lot of hard work in this tv show. Good job on an interesting show.
WOW! It is so awesome to see Lana's work with only a green screen - it makes you see just how detailed she has to be and give 110% every moment. I also love Ginnifer and Jennifer they make their characters so REAL. Rumpel is absolutely magnificent-it's like Robert is the alter ego and Rumple is the real person.Charming is THE PERFECT PRINCE! This is my all time second favorite show ever (Charmed is my first love) - I hope it lasts for at least 10 seasons, I can't ever, EVER imagine it ending!
The original scene with the Evil Queen and Maleficent was so different! I wish they could have kept more of the battle though. I loved seeing them fight!
i really love the show..the casts are perfect and the story in each episodes are great...i only missed 3 episodes in season 1 even how tight my schedule is..Lana, Ginnifer, josh, robert are really the perfect line up for the roles...
Thank you for sharing this Lana. It is interesting to see the bare bones of the witch fight and how much work goes into the filming and editing of this wonderful show.
I love this show SO MUCH, it takes me back to a time when I was a little girl and it was still ok to believe in magic and princesses. Before life happened and I got all bitter and jaded. I LOVE this show.
I think they learn to ignore the cameras and just imagine they are really inside that world. What a fucking amazing job!!! :D YOU ALL ARE AWESOME, PEOPLE!
This is awesome, thanks for uploading! I've done a few projects on green screen before but nothing on this scale. It is very different though, there's a lot less objects to become distracted by and it becomes more about who you're working with at the moment and it makes shooting the scene a whole lot more intense and intimate.
Agreed! At first I was like "it's kinda awkward to just watch her act" & there's not really sound/music, just her voice & the fans. Props to her for really imagining it all.
I havn't seen the whole season 1 one of recess supervisors was talking to me bout the show but when I actually watched it I found out that I watched the season finale just finally finished watching season 1 gonna rewatch the episodes from season 2 up til the next episode on Jan 6th ........I say I think I'm addicted to this show now.......it's awesome *_*
How do you act with just a green screen? I couldn't do it. It looks so great when it's finished though, you can't even tell it wasn't filmed on a set. All the actresses/actors on this show do an amazing job.
Addicted to ths, watched the whole season in just two days!!! Now i have withdrawal symptoms, awaiting for the second season to reach my country. And where in the fairytale world can they manage to cast such handsome/pretty casts? Dang, this is EPIC!
lol. I just find it funny that they don't have a set for the castle. But, they do have one for the apartment. I guess the latter is just easier to build?
+HeartsLocket23 - They do, many of them. I know Lana and Bex do. I don't really follow the other actors. But I know Lana and Bex have posted things about seeing the episodes. (Lana once live tweeted during the episodes with the fans) :)
I agree with you! I've wanted to act in something like this too for the longest times. Oh well, some dreams don't come true but I'm so happy the series is here for me to watch. :)
Although it would be amazing having real life castle sets, I like the green screens as they add more magic to the series. I am blown away every episode by the amazing graphics and scenery they dream up. Truly surreal and enchanting :D
For all that is intersted: the series is only in its first pilot season. This is why all the scnes are filmed in front of a green screen. Say if the show kept its ratings up to make it to a second or third season, and ratings were still going very strong, the set directors/ creators would most likely build an actual set for the castles. Since it is the pilot season, the show is on a tight budget, which is also why there is just green screens. I have been getting a bunch of questions about this,
@dynosus13 one is the adress who plays Malificent, the other is her stunt double. For insurance reasons a stunt double was needed to do the more action packed scenes.
the funny thing is is that in the final cut of the episode, the evil queen doesnt do anything with the staff except break the glass orb to get the curse
I've worked with a green screen once before. It is probably the hardest acting to do. You basically have to use your imagination and rely on the director calling out what is around you and then you just use your imagination and run with it. My director use to tell me "Pretend you're a little girl playing make believe. Find that point in your life when you were able to visualize what's behind you without it actually being there." I took his advice but it's still very hard to do.
Yay! If they did build castle sets, I. Would. Die! They're so beautiful that even though they're obviously CGI, I actually believe they're real places!
@Kay2be2M I agree it is just like that. As kids we could be in the bathtub and yet we were a pirate getting ready to take over and island or another ship and in my case I always got in trouble for splashing all the water on the floor because I imagined mine were big nuclear like bombs :)
watching this really takes away from the show. I don't think I'll watch any more like this. It all comes together so well in then end that it's hard to believe so much is done like this. It seems like it would be boring and even take away from the acting experience... to know that something look so much more exciting and fun on TV than when you're filming it. I know having so much done by computers and the sort give it an incredible finished product for the viewers, and save mega $$ (that is use a green stage rather than put too much time and money into undeniably grandiose sets)...... but it must take away from the experience for the actors?
No, part of being an actor is imagining yourself as the character in the setting of the story. Lana is being Regina in maleficent's castle, throwing fireballs. You need to be the character to enjoy and be good at it.
