I skipped "N" and "O"for now as I want to feature Tommie Bennett and Giri Watts specifically for those but our schedules haven't lined up yet. Other than the patience I talked about in this vid...Give yourself plenty of patience leaning to carve. It kind of can take a minute to learn to some extent, but perhaps a lifetime to master. That's the fun part though. :). Happy and safe shredding all!
I could watch big airs, twists, spins, backflips, side hits, whatever... but instead time and time again I just want to watch this fluid masterclass on snowboarding flow. Absolutely inspiring riding style.
This cracked the code in my brain!! I've always been focused on the S shape in the carve, not the circles they outline. I can actually see the circles on the run now! ~Feeling Enlightened.~ Thank you Knapton!
The big three things I teach are Patience, Commitment, and Fun! I literally on a whim today decided to have a student try linking turns with their hands behind their back as a way to push one's hips to the snow on toe edge, how serendipitous you post this on the same day. Inspired riding as always I'm going to picture that heel side when I'm carving!
Those are some beautiful turns Ryan. Like your 9th grade science teacher, I hardly ever see snowboarders carving like this, and appreciate seeing it done right, and your sharing it with your audience.
Been watching a lot of your videos, and your advice helped me get the nose roll 360 today at Breck! You've got the most precise technique I have ever seen, and even just studying your movements helps greatly.
Ryan, did you pay these people in the background? I'm dying over here. I love this edit. I know you like the good lighting and all but honestly the smooth carving with the snow coming down is pretty rad. Also Kristin's progression is coming along so nice, her transitions are so smooth, can tell she's picked up a lot of good habits riding next to you. I need to get my ass to Breck soon.
Ryan!! In my daydreams of snowboarding I have thought about you and how fun it was to ride together. How are you and your snowboarding craft? PM me your number. I am coming out late Feb!
You make it all look so easy Ryan! I love the big charge up for the heelside layouts! Great tiPs on this one and shout out to the little helpers on your diagram haha!
Recently got switch S carves dialled which has opened the door to so many more carving combos, next is getting the switch toe turn laid out. The advice is always appreciated!
I’m watching your video while in a zoom meeting about Tax laws and I swear my coworkers knew something was up cause I had a smile and awed look on my face the whole time.
back in the early to mid 90s a teacher in my my high school was the coach for the high school ski team and he used to get me to carve on my board to show the ski team how they should have been carving on their edges. He saw the value of snowboarding and that not all of us made the hill icy. I have always been looking for that carve ;-)
Wow, I saw you yesterday (1/6/2021). I really wish I would have said hello. I looked for you again. But I’m proud of myself because I learned switch today. It was my 5th day on a board (lesson included). Rode Colorado lift all the way down without falling, carving some and throwing some 180s, 360s, and 540s. It was nice. Last day tomorrow am. I’ve been inspired watching your videos.
Excellent message Ryan! I will say though.. A lot of us are in groups and that really tests the patience concept.. It sucks being the intermediate rider trying to catch the others who are comfortable bombing a steep black diamond, because you're in danger by trying not to slow them down.. It also sucks waiting for the newbie who can't keep pace on Mello blue's or greens, because you can't get into the flow of a run.. It's unfortunate, but folks who can go solo during those sweet, sweet weekdays really have it the best... Thanks man!
Definitely much easier riding and feels better without a selfie stick too! For me it has a time and place cuz I often like to ride alone... But in general I'll try to get more shots like these as it shows what I'm doing a bit better IMO.
Hands down the most beautiful snowboarding I've ever seen. I need a Donek... I have size 14 feet and I need a 13in waist board and a moderate side cut for my feet not to drag. I desperately need a custom board to really get to the next level, but hey its rona-ing out there and I decided to go back to college for 2020 and now I can't freakin find a job. So no riding at all this season either! I hate my life. Yay! 😆😂😭🤮
It's so bad that it's impossible to feel true carving before you have learned to carve. Because exactly these feelings we are looking for in our training.
Video idea & total slope fun:. Scope out an obstacle on the slope, lift towers in near flat terrain are best!, and 360 carve around it in a perfect circle and keep on going 👍. Requires "patience" when the carve goes uphill 🧐. Hint #1:: dont carve too deep (or drag body parts) cause it makes drag. Hint #2: it only really counts if u go in smoking hot, 30-40 mph 😁. So much fun 🤗🤗🤗🤗. Remember, a perfect circle,, not just a decreasing radius tail carve 👍.
I absolutely admire your style of riding. I really started to improve my carving since I watch your content but with only 7-10 days of snowboarding per year it really takes some time.. And this year I won't get a single day in the snow due to the Covid situation in germany :/
ever since i started watching couple years ago ive been paying attention to my carves and theyve imporved so much staying on that edge ty bro wish u the best 2021
Love how you deliver your knowledge in your videos. In FL I don't get to exactly practice much and missed out on my trip last year :( but hopefully next month I'll be able to put some of your help to practice in my trip out to breck....and maybe even catch a glimpse of your carving in person
Awesome vid. Use to teach my daughter carving comparing to S turns. But like the circle better. Still love the uphill awareness from both you guys. Too many skiers and boarders alike just don’t look uphill. Thanks again Ryan, awesome work! And yeah, absolutely terrible views!
Hey Ryan, first off id like to say I'm a big fan of your riding, i stumbled upon your channel a couple years ago and i was blown away by your style. I come from a surfing/carve skate boarding background where i think the concept is similar because you are turning on rails. The only problem is that a wave lasts less than 30 sec. and then your paddling out to find another, this looks epic because its like having a 10min or longer wave. Just moved to Idaho for Paramedic School and would love to really "Carve" without dealing with booting out and having such a small side cut radius i have to slow down too much to get a good big carve in. Im 6,2" and 220lbs, 11.5 boot, Im in the middle of placing an order for an Incline from Donek. Donek's web site recommended me with these specs 162cm L, 30.5cm waist, and i was thinking about asking for a 10m side cut radius. I want something in between with not too much chatter for the high speed carving. I was just wondering if you could point me in the right direction, are these some proper specs i can work with? I want a board that i can grow into but also don't want to grow out of it after one or two seasons. Thanks Ryan for all your tutorials and sharing your vast wealth of pow knowledge! Kaplahhhh! haha
Hey Ryan, love my Knapton twin. Still getting use to the 28.5 waist with 9.5 side cut but carving awesome. I feel like I need more side cut still. What is a good increase in side cut radius from 9.5?
I just love your vids! I owned 2 W I D E boards and liked them so much, 1 got stolen and the other sold. Now i have a Salomon burner 162 but just can't get it to carve like older ones(that were salomons too). My questions are what kind of bindings are you using? Very stiff, medium or what? And how much flex dose the board need to get a decent carve? Dose camber matter these a days with all the new forms and shapes? Thanks for any help! even a Hello! :)
You are just amazing Ryan Knapton!!!! I am from Romania and a wish to put my hands on a donek knapton board.... How can i do? Healp with a site link or something to buy one😍 Ryan I follow you here and my snowboard style is so improved...tnx a lot for your advice and vidoes.
Ryan, awesome carving. I’m curious what width is your stance and do you have your back foot at a slight duck angle? Also do you have a heel riser on your back foot?
Ryan, I really enjoy watching you carve up the corduroy! It reminds me when I was young and without as many injuries. I can only ski now but you motivate me to try and get back on the wide plank. Wondering what your front and rear angles are? Such as 45 degrees front 30 rear... TIA and have a great Winter!
Serious question: Can a beginner snowboarder learn carving right away? Or does he must know how to skid first? What is the best learning path to carving from 0? (In terms of general skills)
I really love your videos! Thankyou so much for sharing your amazing knowledge^^ Everytime before go practice I like to watch your videos, that inspires me!! Qpla'!
Man, I wish you would come out to the East cost sometime and put on a carving clinic! Think that may be something you would consider doing someday @Ryan Knapton?
I noticed you are now rotating your upper body much more on backside turns. It used to be more silent some years ago. Have you been working on this recently?
Whenever I want that big style of turn, (especially for a laid out version) I have that motion to kind of help hook up the hill just a bit before getting on to the heelside. Someday I'll make a vid featuring that and how it can help for that specific turn. 🤓🤘
When you get to your R video please do Rotation. Would love some more insight into your technique for getting rotations into those super high butters. 🤘🤘🤘
@@RyanKnapton we did last season at winter park mainly and we are back at Loveland. I am on Alloysnow.com snowboards now. Heading to Montucky next month would love to meet up in February...🤙🏼
