I thought the same thing. If you have a basement and your neighbors don't, you ask them over. It Doesn't matter if you're that close or not, it a matter of being a good human being. This is a matter of life or death, her neighbors would of been alive had she not been so selfish and cold HEARTED.....GOD gave her a big opportunity to do Good, yet she chose to care for no one but herself in a case like this....And shamelessly says, oh yeah we were close. They were told to put their seatbelts on two seconds before the turbulence. I don’t fly so I don’t have to deal with people or the turbulence. They should keep them on though if they can’t get any more warning than that.
On every flight I have ever been on, at reaching 10'000 feet the crew advises passengers to keep "seatbelts loosely fastened" in case of unexpected turbulence. This is why. But many people just will not. Many years ago a friend was on a flight that dropped 10,000 feet. It wasn't on the news - people had their seatbelts on.

She may have offered before the storm, and they declined. We see it all the time in hurricane season, where people refuse to evacuate and prefer to stay with their stuff instead of preserving their lives, thinking the storm won't be as bad.

I keep seeing all the stories about Tornadoes and keep asking myself if during the cold war we had bomb shelters. Those would save lives in Tornadoes. We had one in a old Elementary school. The school is gone and so is the shelter. Lot's of people don't have basements but those that do should share them with those that don't in such emergency situations. I'm sure some do.we need better emergency plans and why isn't the government promoting better opportunities for central shelters stocked with provisions like food water and first aid. The media should ask more hard questions of public officials
That was an interesting difference I noticed in Japan. Every single elevator and hotel room had emergency supplies like water and a chemical toilet in case an earthquake trapped you. Because in a serious disaster it might take a long time for rescue workers to be able to get to you.
