Jay is a blue collar guy that made it big and didnt change. He took a 15 million dollar yearly pay cut to keep the staff on the tonight show. He's a true class act, a real man.
@@stevep4236 This is the one I am referring to, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Tonight_Show_conflict it is when NBC favored Jay over Conan for the timeslot in the evening. I remember EVERYONE hating Jay after this because they think he stole everything from Conan, etc. And basically Jay was an outcast after this with few people liking him. Of course Jay stepped down from his show shortly after to retire and do his RU-vid channel.
True, but why was Jay hated so much for the whole Conan feud thingy 10 years ago. It seems nobody liked him back then and now everyone loves him again?
@@costco_pizza: Jay was NEVER "hated" - that's propaganda that was spewed against him - besides which, he's been gone from his talk show for years - so what's to talk about! He already discusses the situation surrounding his departure, in another video (so t's NOT a 'hidden' subject!) - look it up!
@@michaelcharach Why ? Cause he own hundreds of vintage expensive cars. That doesn't mean he drives more or uses a lot more gasoline than the average joe that just owns a Toyota. It's not like he employs an army of drivers to drive his cars for him all the time..He's just one man.
Jay is the man, he deserves everything he has and more, been with Mavis since 1976, always sez, his friends have had 3 wives, multiple girls, he’s kept 1 wife, 200 cars, it works
I totally agree, but perhaps explain why was Jay hated so much for the whole Conan feud thingy 10 years ago. It seems nobody liked him back then and now everyone loves him again?
@@costco_pizza I never liked Conan, not because of Jay, never watched his show, never saw him in Jays or Letterman’s league, and again if he was, when Jay left, ratings wouldn’t have died, now as a man, your make multi millions of dollars a year, NBC tells you your contact is up, your out, you leave quietly, next guy fails, now they offer you more money, do you say no? I don’t think so, Conan failed, Jay had nothing to do with it,
@@costco_pizza You have to understand the context: "Leno, the host of The Tonight Show since 1992, and O'Brien, host of Late Night since 1993, were strong ratings leaders for NBC for much of the decade. In 2001, when O'Brien's contract neared its end and he was courted by other networks, NBC agreed to extend his contract and eventually make him the fifth host of The Tonight Show. The network neglected to tell Leno about this arrangement until 2004, when they informed him that O'Brien would take over as host in five years. When that time arrived, in 2009, NBC tried to keep both of its late-night stars by offering Leno a nightly primetime show before the local news and O'Brien's Tonight Show." So, they dumped Leno for Conan, but still gave Leno a "consolation" prize of hosting a show before Conan's...Conan's ratings were never good and he blamed it on Leno coming on before him...Conan was fired, Jay got his job back and he was soon back to number one... somehow it was all evil Jay Leno's doing that Conan couldn't make it in the big leagues.... Here I will quote the great Louis CK. "The first dick move was Conan's....". Blackmailing NBC execs into firing Leno and giving the coveted Tonight Show to him...
@A H not all. If it's true love. Lots of poor people do the same. I came from nothing when I married. In time moved in a 10,000 Sq ft home....then she started having affairs while in the middle of adopting a baby. Go figure. It's luck of the draw
One of the most approachable men and hasn't forgotten his roots, I've met Jay a couple of times at car shows and he is a humble person and will spend time with you if he isn't busy but even then he makes you feel special, Another fact is Jay Leno lives a modest lifestyle even though he is wealthy and has a extravagant car collection and beautiful homes, he still hasn't spent a dime of his money he received from the Tonight Show to this day. Man is a smart businessmen and a national treasure to the car community and to the United States.
He is a lot of fun to hang around. Been to many car shows where attends and he is hilarious but very friendly. One of those guys who is not afraid to let you touch his car and sit inside it and get a feel.
He has said that he and his wife drove by the house, and admired it. He went and asked the owner if he was interested in selling. I guess Jay must have made him an offer he couldn't refuse.
Drove by back in July when my wife and I visited R.I. To celebrate our 21 year wedding anniversary. That’s the best I can do, can’t promise a castle like Jay did to his wife, just drive by them, 😬
I've always loved Jay. I hate he got a bad wrap for the Conan thing but that's not his fault. Tbh Jay Leno is just more likeable and funnier to Conans creepiness.
Jay is one of my favorite talents out there. Hes such a kind soul and I share a love for cars just like him. I’d love to meet him and get a look at his cars.
Watch Jay’s appearance on the Adam Carolla show, RU-vid Nov 2021. Responding to questions he discusses his spending philosophy that hasn’t changed since his early days. Took a pay cut, acknowledging he was still being paid millions, to spare lay offs of crew on the Tonight Show. Said he still has his Tonight Show income still in the bank. Haha Guess he’s saving for.a rainy day.
A modest guy for billionaire. Share his knowledge and passion for comedy and cars. Forget the Conan nonsense - that was business. He seems like a nice guy who looks after himself and his family as we all do
After pilling up those many collectible cars over the years, he had to cave in to the "one who shall be obeyed " and buy her a getaway home. Shrewd move. Most of those cliff mansions turned into museums on the account of unpaid back taxes. He now owns only one of the remaining few. As for being a one woman's man, with all that money , well , devoting time for his cars replaces the mistress figure. He is a nice fella , and above all a shrewd one.
very simple folk. Very nice country manor that has been designed by an Englisman. Ideal location to organize a very costly car auction. A gigantic cobble stone rosette ....
Out of all the comedians that I can think of... Jay seems to be the one with the least amount of baggage.. whether it be drugs ex-wives, car crashes, bankruptcies, arrests, assaults he doesn't have any of that. And he's done the people that have worked over him pretty solid over the years with pay and even taking a pay cut to make sure that his crew on The Tonight Show had a few more years of work... not a lot of comedians would do that
