Geoff Tate is one of the most underrated singers in rock history. To really hear how awesome his voice is you need to listen to "Eyes of a Stranger".

Been listening to Queensryche since the Warning and when Empire came out i was totally turned off by it. I saw them live as the opening act for Metallica in 1988 in Denver, Colorado, where they did the entire Operation Mindcrime album and a few of my favorites from Rage for Order. They also did Queen of the Ryche. Fantastic show. Especially for an opening act.

Believe it or not, this is the beginning of Geoff Tate's fall as a singer. First three albums his range and power were nearly unmatched. It's a big ask, but I beg you. Even if it isn't a reaction, and you just do it for yourself, please listen to their album Operation: Mindcrime start to finish. The album is an absolute masterpiece and no single song does it justice (don't listen to everyone telling you to listen to Eyes of a Stranger. The song is meaningless without context) I promise you won't regret it. Indeed it may be the best 45 minutes you'll ever spend musically.

This song is my all time favourite song. It was also one of my fathers. “I will be smiling next to you, in silent lucidity”. My father passed away 5 and a half years ago. This song is one of the things that connects me with him again. Every time I listen to it, I can hear him singing it. My interpretation of the song is that sleep is the one place where you can connect with your late loved ones. And that they will always protect you.

Wow, Queensryche!! So this is a great song, but it's basically the chillest song in their discography because this album (Empire) was their most polished and radio-ready. If you want to hear what heavy Queensryche sounds like, listen to "Warning", "The Lady Wore Black," "Queen or the Ryche," or my personal favorite, "NM156." That's the stuff they built their following on. Oh, and probably the Operation Mindcrime album in its entirety (don't just listen to one song, you gotta do the whole album). P.S. This song is about astral projection.

@@MrRudeboy212 Thanks for the compliment on my choice of suggestion. All of their albums up to Empire were unique from each other and great in their own way. All had great songs. Only thing wrong with them I found was that I saw Empire tour when they did Operation Mindcrime in it's entirety and it was so overproduced and sequenced, it had no live feel to it. I was disappointed. I'm a musician and live the raw feel of live rock that you can hear seeing Guns n roses, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Alice or Judas Priest back then or LA Guns or something similar. But still a big fan and appreciate what they did musically. The whole album with the songs you mentioned is so different within just a few tracks. An awesome display of their versatility from the start.

That double neck guitar has one with 12 strings and the other one is 6 strings. Some are 6 string and a 4 string bass neck. While this is a great song in and of itself, Eyes of a Stranger would have been a better introduction. This is the song you listen after you Have an appreciation for what Queensryche is capable of. But all is not lost, you can Just do that in the reverse order and now Eyes of a Stranger will hit that much harder. For the Letter R a great choice would be Ra -Do you call my name. Very obscure song that is extremely catchy. Thus will also probably be the only request for Ra so I’m sure you’ll end up doing Rage or something. Whatever you do it’ll be great .

Back in the beginning of the 70s, I was a teenager and that kind of dream happened to me. I had awoken from a dream in which my Mom had died. It felt so damn real. I was actually sweating and I became quite anxious as I got up and out of bed. I headed downstairs to see if my Dad was around. Alas, there at the kitchen table sat my Mom. I can't begin to explain the kind of relief that came over me. I almost dropped to my knees as my eyes took in what I thought had been taken away from me. I never ever told my Mom what I had dreamed because I didn't want to create a jinx of any kind, one that would have fulfilled my dream into reality. Until this day, I can still remember the dream and how it made me feel at that time and it is scary to say the least, and I am now 68 years old. This song gives me the chills but I love it.

Silent Lucidity is my favorite song by Queensyche. They played it when I went to see them in concert. It was the first concert I attended...I was in highschool. I read he wrote that song for his kids. So beautiful 💙 😍 Another fave is The lady wore black and basically the whole Empire album

As soon as the song started playing the tears just started streaming down my face. I lost my father in September. when this song was popular and Queensryche was my absolute favorite band it just flooded all these very problematic things that surrounded our relationship. I miss him. I miss the age I was when I listened to this. It’s so bittersweet, hurts and comforts me all at the same time.

Grew up listening to them. I remember day my brother brought their first album home. It's only four songs but they are awesome. We played the record a lot. I remember it came with a sticker. It had the bands logo. It went on the drawer of a dresser and stayed there for years. I know you like funny comments. Here's a funny story for you. When Empire came out the local rock station was giving away tickets for an all ages show. All you had to do was be caller nine and properly spell the bands name. I keep trying to call in to win. Never did get in but it was so funny listening to everyone try to spell the name of the band. I laughed so hard. It went on for close to an hour lol. Sorry for the long post.

@Dillon Haggart, I agree that most people can enjoy several songs from those bands as I do very much. I just don't want to see any more non metal bands on a metal list. He has already done a scar symmetry song so I was wanting a sabaton or soilwork song.

This song gave me out of body experiences for a couple years. No other song has affected me like this one. I listened to it a few times a day and had these out of body experiences daily. I literally floated out of my body every morning looked out my front window floated back to my bedroom laid back down into my body then my alarm clock would then wake me. it was so strange. Years later i figured out it was this song that did this to me.

Silent Lucidity" was written about a person having a lucid dream. ... DeGarmo got the idea from a book called "Creative Dreaming". "The song is about the ability to realize that you're dreaming, recognize it, and actually participate in the dream, shape it, change it," the guitarist said in a 1990 interview.

When my kids were 2 and 3 years old, I taught myself the picking pattern on guitar and played to to them, each night, for about three years, straight, at bedtime. So, I sang and played it, roughly, a thousand times. Upon request, like for weeks, my daughter refused to sleep until I played, "Hushnowdon'tyoucry".

Hush now, don't you cry Wipe away the teardrop from your eye You're lying safe in bed It was all a bad dream Spinning in your head Your mind tricked you to feel the pain Of someone close to you leaving the game of life So here it is, another chance Wide awake you face the day Your dream is over or has it just begun? There's a place I like to hide A doorway that I run through in the night Relax child, you were there But only didn't realize it and you were scared It's a place where you will learn To face your fears, retrace the years And ride the whims of your mind Commanding in another world Suddenly you hear and see This magic new dimension I will be watching over you I am gonna help you see it through I will protect you in the night I am smiling next to you In silent lucidity If you open your mind for me You won't rely on open eyes to see The walls you built within Come tumbling down And a new world will begin Living twice at once you learn You're safe from the pain in the dream domain A soul set free to fly A round trip journey in your head Master of illusion, can you realize Your dream's alive, you can be the guide but I will be watching over you I am gonna help to see it through I will protect you in the night I am smiling next to you

I love how people are upset that Alex "listened to the wrong song" first. Did you miss the part where he said he thought it was phenomenal and would definitely check them out more in the future? That's the whole point. Listen to song A by band X. If you like song A by band X you most likely will check out other songs from said band. Saying he listened to the wrong song first when he clearly enjoyed it makes no sense.
@gaminginframes2819
@gaminginframes2819 5 лет назад
@@HTYM It's by no means a bad song, but not something I'd recommend as a first time listen, especially from Queensryche. All of their other hits (harder hits) are a better representation of the band's music and Tate's vocal range. Yes, I heard him mention at the end of his video that he plans on listening to more songs by them. But do it now!
