Thanks so much for the background information about Abe. I even have a couple of sides on Zon-o-Phone by his father, but would never have made the connection!

Very excited to discover this. Abe Small was my grandfather. In addition to leading the Melody Boys, he played with Paul Whiteman’s band and also led the Fort Slocum Army Band during WW II.

He had such a beautiful tone. I’m thinking Abe must have known Phil Napoleon, as there is a very strong influence heard here.
