I'm a Celtic supporter, but was a student in Aberdeen when Fergie was there and used to go and watch them. They were an absolutely marvellous side. I can't believe it was 40 years ago. Great seeing these two reminisce.
because of the Premier league and the dominance it's had over the world since it began nobody talks about what Sir Alex did before Manchester United.. he broke the Celtic and Rangers dominance in Scotland and took Aberdeen to European glory also
As a Dons fan i always love seeing the greats talk about the glory days. I was a wee 6 year old when we won the title in 1980, and as the 80's progressed i just believed the Dons winning trophies was the norm, and would continue for ever. The memories Fergies Dons gave me back then are imprinted, they were great days, unbelievable. The only Scottish team with two European honours to our name. The last club to have beaten Real Madrid in a European Final. The last team outwith the Old Firm to win the title. The only team outwith the Old Firm to win three Scottish Cups in a row.
@@yvonnejohnston9429And all Scots. Strachan, McLeish and Leighton and Miller were mainstays in the Scotland squad. For me, I would have had Peter Weir as a regular. He made Aberdeen play.
@@philipallen-729 agreed re Peter weir, I’m a rangers fan personally but liked Peter weir as a player, though my fav ex don was willie miller, hardly shirked a challenge and always gave all
Rangers fan here, they were brilliant, really special, one of the best Scottish teams of any era, to dominate the Old Firm takes some doing in Scotland.
Because of the Premier league and the dominance it's had over the world since it began nobody talks about what Sir Alex did before Manchester United.. he broke the Celtic and Rangers dominance in Scotland and took Aberdeen to European glory also. its like Skoke City winning winning the Europa League this day an age
If Fergie hadn't left to manage Man Utd they'd have won even more trophies in Scotland. Back then teams hated going Aberdeen to play them as Fergie broke the Celtic/Rangers stranglehold.
Two icons of Scottish football. Being from England we didn't get to see much Scottish football back then but I do remember running home from footy training to see this legendary game. I doubt we'll ever see a team of (pretty much) all Scottish players win a major European trophy again. Alex Ferguson is the greatest manager of all time.
Really like this mini-series, good to see teams other than the OF represented too. Really interesting watching these and appreciating the teams of old and the achievements they did.
As a Bluenose this was fckn superb, Superb manager, superb players & dare I say it, superb fans of that most excellent era in the history of Aberdeen FC. 🙏🏻
I was a teenager following the reds in that period. The fans werent great! This was one of Europes top teams for 4/5 years, playing on front of half empty stadiums! Our support to hampden was poor. Nowadays we take 20k back then we took 12/14k max! We took 40k to hampden in 2014.Thats what this team should have been getting
Back in a time when everyone had a similar budget and money hadnt ruined the game. Willie Miller was world class yet remained at the Dons for his entire career. Changed days.
@@lukebarry7878 It wasn't crushed it became the Commonwealth of Nations. Britain is the greatest country in the world today because of what we managed to build. And Great Britain wouldn't even exist without Scotland😂
@@lukebarry7878 It's not "scotchmen" it's Scotsmen and yes we are Scottish and British. Name a country better than Great Britain then tell me why it is
