The young and very talented sarod artiste Abhishek Borkar who belongs to the Maihar gharana was one of the featured artistes at the Cusp festival in Chennai. The festival was co-curated by First Edition Arts along with Abhishek Borkar, Ranjani Ramachandran, Priya Purushothaman, Brindha Manickavasakan and Praveen Sparsh.
As part of his recital, Abhishek decided to do something rather unusual, and that was to attempt to play some gats that are normally attributed to the Shahjahanpur gharana. This was as a tribute to the great sarod maestro Pt. Buddhadev Das Gupta whose birth anniversary happened to be on that day (February 1st 2020).
Abhishek was accompanied by Tejovrush Joshi on tabla.
