Oddly enough, I never knew Samus was their drummer at one point but I've always loved his channel and recently I got into Abigail Williams and thought "I'd love to see Samus do a cover of some of their stuff," fucking weird
Samus, I got to see you play this stuff live a few months after this video was released, and I just wanted to let you know that your performance still sticks with me today. You killed it! Glad to see you're doing so well these days!
I have toured with Francesco numerous times. He is a fucking awesome drummer, and a wonderful guy. He can do the insanely fast double strokes with his feet, that I will never be able to do. But...who the fuck cares who is faster? This isn't kindergarten. Ha.
oh man, still one of my favorite videos of yours, in fact this was how i knew you back in the day and now I'm sitting here with my little son bangin' our heads! Cheers man!
This is the video that really got me into you as a drummer. I was already familiar with you in Abigail Williams, but when I saw this video you became one of my favorite drummers and still are now.
This is one ov the only videos that has so many views yet the rating never seems to go down. I can't get enough ov this video, I'm here every couple days.
I was stunned when I first saw this the other day. Just got your CD, a great piece of art! Best tracks for me: The Departure and this one. Thank you very much and keep up the good work! P.S: Come to Germany, please!
dude, there are no words to define the way you play the drums, triggered or not you are an awesome drummer, and i must congratulate you. Cheers from Mexico
I figured it out and i see right through you Samus: You see i always wondered why this video has a special "Green Tint" to it and now i know why. Just like in the movie "The Matrix" everything IN the Matrix has a green tint as opposed to real life, and since you wrote the drum track but couldn't complete in real life because your sticks and drum kit would just ignite on fire so you "Entered the Matrix" recorded this video and uploaded it so it would finally be complete. Yeah nice try.
I remember in middle school/highschool when this came out. Samus you're still one of my favorite drummers. IN THE SHADOWS OF A THOUSAND SUNS is one of the greatest blackened albums of all time .
@dethmtaldescendant I've been drumming for a while and I can guarantee that the double bass is far from impossible. it just takes a lot of practice and focus to get down
This is such a legendary video, takes me back to when my cousin and I were obsessed with you and VADRUM back in the very early days of RU-vid. Keep rockin Samus!
People don't grasp the concept of triggers. It's so you can hear the double bass with clarity and definition, otherwise it'd be just noise. Do some research.
***** you're totally right, there are no dynamics. It is possible to lower the sensitivity of each trigger but it also has to do with the brain. This video is seven years old. Samus' brain might be older. Newer technology allows for randomization/humanization of hits. Checkout "2box" for example. Tomas Haake uses their brain for his kicks and they sound almost completely organic live. I'll personally never use triggers though. I love mics and EQing. I'm not a black metal speed demon but I love really fast 32nd and 64th note flurries and as long as you keep a mic inside the kick drum(not just peeking into the vent but on your dampening or suspended in the air near the batter) and work on hitting as hard as you can, people will hear you. Triggers are practical for this genre because if you're constantly hitting as hard as you can, you'll burn yourself out by the end of the second song. Efficiency is key. Look how relaxed Samus is.
What a dope album! I had the experience of opening up for Abigail Williams a couple times at The Rock in Tucson. I would just sit on the side with all the gear and watch you play hahaha
A trigger is a small piezo that detects impacts on a drum head by resting it. When it detects a hit, it sends an electronic signal to a drum module, which then outputs a sound (midi, sound sample, etc.) which can be heard by patching the module through to a PA or an amp.
I always knew you were going to blow up one day. This video never gets old. There was this video, some Chris Adler videos, Joey Jordison videos, Jon Rice playthroughs, but this is was the absolute best
Man, you became a youtuber? I remember watching this when I was in high school damn haha Eliminator's "Breaking the Wheel" stills being one of my favourite albums, cool to watch this again
Haven't listened to this in a while, and honestly, it's a masterpiece of drumming. Great speed, clarity, accuracy, tone, the fills and cymbal work is fucking great. Honestly Samus is probably one of the most under appreciated drummers in metal.
That was beautiful gravity blasts towards the end I love how you toss the splashes in. You are great with your wrists man. I love your symbol work! Great techniques! Double thumbs up.
SAMUS you rock!! Me and my 9 yr old son from NZ have been watching you....and we will stay tuned!! Caleb is a big fan of Joey Jordison, and you made him sit there with his mouth open.... youre pretty good on the axe as well!!
about 15 years ago ( im 30 now ) i really got into black metal and i remember watching this video in awe. youtube was wild back then and disovering something like this insane, i come back here like every year to check it out again :D
Holy shit. I used to watch this video waaaaaaay back in the day when I was in college. Didn't realise it was you! Why RU-vid has put this in my suggested videos I'll never know 😂
what is the song title and band name? I've read 'Empyrean' in the desc, but metal archives gives at least 4 bands with this name, and most of them symphonic/melodic black ... please help!
@HoboBassist Yeah, i have never even herd of somthing like what your talking about :P, but as i said all triggers are, are effect mics for the bass drum or bass drum's in his case :)
Saw you guys several months ago at Peppermint Beach Club in Virginia Beach, you are just as amazing in person as in the video dude. I shook your hand after the show and told you I subscribed to you on youtube, you were really cool man. Eventually I'll have a video of my drumming on my page so check it out
@Mewstor151 its works kind of like an electric drumset, but a really cheap one, its just where a very light hit can still cause a loud sound, usually used for recording.
dude this is completely epic youre shit is sick brotha for sure. the notes / timing and tempo are impeccable, and the sound quality was great! keep up the good work dude.
