There's nothing about you that would make you stand out from any other person honestly. He was just being mean you are right about speaking out about these things. It takes a lot to be strong and speak out.

We are lucky if we live around people who double check to protect children.

Yes, I am not against that. Something you missed is that I have Autism and I HAVE a Master's in Education. I have a good rapport with almost 30 schools in my district and the school board. You missed the fact that those students came up to me; not the other way around. However, I can't get mad at the security guard for misconstruing what is obvious: a friendly conversation with not only 3 children, but with an adult. I can't get too mad at him for the first round of questioning, but the second (when it was obvious that he didn't believe I was a teacher/tutor) was wrong. In fact, the mother of the two whom I was tutoring that day said that she's taking this video to the police, because she agrees how wrong and strange it was. Something else you missed @jhor729, is that there were 100s of people there. Why'd he single me out? Clearly, my strange looks (tall, thin, and all) made him equate me to being an alien instead of the fact that I just have Autism. I WILL keep exposing such ableism in hopes to eradicate it. Are we going to eradicate it completely? No. But as long as I'm living, I'm doing my best to do my God-given calling to be a good teacher and an advocate for disabilities worldwide. I already have a million followers on Instagram; 7,999,000,000 more to go :) Have a good week, @jhor729 😀

Ridiculous. And his name is "security guard"? That is unprofessional and outrageous.

You were not being suspicious. He should have told you his name when you asked him though

I thought the same thing too! Honestly I think Matthew should tell what happened on google reviews. There was something off about that security guard.

My god, there is doing your job, and there is letting your job overdo you! I'm sorry that you should have to deal with ignorance like that. Mental health awareness is massively important! No one dealing with any kind of mental or physical "handicap" should ever feel profiled like that!😢

I agree that mental health awareness is very important. This one incident literally took life away from me for 3 days as my mind was broken, thinking day and night about it. Even to this day, he sometimes pops back in my mind every now and then. I was indeed just there to do my job as a math tutor and have tutored dozens of times since; I'm now allowing this incident to stop me 😀

Thank you for these videos. My grandson is on the spectrum as I probably am along with my son, his father. However, my grandson is also hearing impaired and I am concerned with these potential situations that might happen in public. We are Native and sometimes get harassed over things other people usually do not. I've also been an assistant teacher and worked with literacy programs at my kids schools and the local community college and running into people who recognize you is completely normal. Bullying people in public because that security guard wants to flex on someone is never okay. He is really morelike an INSECURITY guard. Sorry that happened to you.

Hi. No problem. I try to post positive videos, but there have been a few times over the years where I had to expose such things. Like I said, I feel that if I don't at least take a stand, then it's just going to continue. I watch so many other RU-vid videos from across the country where this stuff (if not worse) still happens. Recently, there was an Autistic who had a meltdown and died in police custody. I'm sure there's more to the story than my first glance, but I skimmed through that security video and it made me upset. I just hope there's more thorough training for police and security guards soon about people with physical or neurodevelopmental disabilities, or being impaired in some way.

9:09 what does that security guard want now
@matthewkenslow722
@matthewkenslow722 3 месяца назад
I know, right? Just to come back for more harassment and conclusion-jumping. This was when he exposed himself as the ableist he is, confirming that he was indeed viewing me as somebody I was not, despite him witnessing an actual, real friendly conversation with me and that group. Alas, I don't think he saw me actually tutor those two students for the following two hours. I'm actually going back over there in 45 minutes to tutor another student, so I'm eager to see if I'll run into him again.

Going to say this as a second possibility. I think this security guard has never seen you before, as he was asking questions like “Where are you from, what’s ur ages, and your name, etc” basically confirming who you are. He was a nice gentleman wasn’t rude or anything but still don’t see a reason why return a second time.
@matthewkenslow722

Yes, I believe he followed protocol and again, he seemed a bit nice in that he called me by my first name, but as you said, I cannot fathom why he returned and talked to me like that. I understand the first line of questioning, but since I gave him all the truthful answers (and that I was there waiting to tutor a couple of students), I don't know why he didn't believe that and came back with such an insinuation about me. _That's_ what's bothering me; not so much the first encounter. And one last thing: Why was it me? I'm not saying it should've been somebody else, but still, why was he targeting me like that when there were literally a hundred or more people on the entire property? (Anyway, that's a rhetorical question I just had to type out. Thanks for watching and your comment.)

If he was contracted by the Public Library that means he’s working on Taxpayer money therefore him refusing to identify depending on the policy of the Public Library could be a violation. Remember that the First Amendment protects the right to film inside Public Buildings (e.g Public Libraries, City Halls, Police/Sheriff’s stations and etc.) If I was you I would’ve chosen to exercise my 5th Amendment right to remain silent and not answer any of his questions including giving him my name. I wish you had filmed the entire interaction as the First Amendment gives you the right to.

@@KingSebas580 The mother to the students whom I tutored that day told me that she watched this and said that it wasn't right for the security guard. She said that she was going to take it to the police so that they can do something about him, if possible. Meanwhile, I'm thankful for the 1st amendment right, as I knew that such places were public and it was alright for me to record and post. I also knew about the right to remain silent, but I assumed that he'd think that that was more "suspicious." I thought it was weird of him not giving me his name, but I just looked it up and according to a few websites, security guards aren't obligated like police officers are, unless they're in plain clothes, one said. All I'm hoping is understanding from him and perhaps an apology (by some miracle); I hope he views us Autistics are humans from now no. I actually do have the entire ordeal on bodycam, including my entire conversation with those students and that woman, but due to privacy and the students being underage (and that I had been their substitute teacher in this school district), I just didn't want to post that. I do have it, however, and if I must, I'll plan to blur and alter their voices. However, I did keep the very end of the conversation for this RU-vid video, just for viewers to have quintessential proof that I did, in fact, have a friendly, cordial conversation.

@@matthewkenslow722 You could file a complaint against him with the security company he works with. By any chance did you catch his patch that says the name of the company he works for? Technically if he was contracted to work for any government building at that point he would be considered a “Public Servant” meaning he’s still in violation of the Library policy concerning employee’s identifying themselves to private citizens therefore if you do a FOIA request you can get his (Full Name, Salary, and Position). Obviously he was being a smart-ass by saying his name was “Security Guard” which is what pissed me off the most. 😡 You should watch First Amendment Audits especially the auditors I referred to in my other comment.
@matthewkenslow722
@matthewkenslow722 2 месяца назад
@@KingSebas580 I, alas, didn't get a close-up of his patch. I think he was only there for the week of Independence Day. I've tutored there over a half dozen times since and never saw him (or any other security guard) again, except the usual security guard in the library, who's much friendlier. Yes, him saying that infuriated me so much inside, as that proved to me that I was a suspicious target for him. Then him coming back to say what he said really made me shake. My hands were still shaking as I was beginning to tutor the first student and I tried hiding it, but couldn't. Thankfully, the student didn't seem to notice and I kept explaining the math. I have watched several First Amendment Audits over the past 10 years, which gave me a lot of knowledge and reassurance about this, and for it being alright to film and post since it's public. The reason why I wear bodycam to begin with is for this very thing - exposing discrimination that I face with proof instead of just my words, which people might deny without proof.
