The Falcon 9 was in control of the launch so it was a completely automated abort. Could have been anything from a Merlin not starting properly or any of the thousands of telemetry items that the rocket processes for launch.

0:26 Yeah, at TS: +0:26, control said we’re back to manual, means they’re previously automated.

In my eyes it’s reassuring this happens every once in awhile, shows they got their security level still up at high standards 👍

Isn't it more correct to say the rocket aborted the launch? I don't think any personnel intervened.

I noticed the message about the 'hold down clamps' being released and liftoff, but that wasn't an actual state but a scheduled one that never happened. At least I hope the abort happened before the hold down clamps were released.

Hold down clamps are not released until you see the rocket start to lift off. Plus the hold down clamps don’t release unless the rocket has all engine firing nominally and all systems are go, only then will they release the rocket.

@Starship_30 I'm sorry, did you say the hold down clamps are not released until you see the rocket life off? If so, consider another hobby. The rocket has more thrust than weight, it needs to in oder to life off at all. If you're saying they keep the clamps locked until after the thrust exceeds it's weight than that would be about the latest they would release them. During the run-up, which will take a couple seconds, if they detect a problem before the thurst exceeds the weight, then they can abort/scrub. If they allowed the rocket to begin to lift off and get some small distance above the mount then if they have to abort the 5,000,000kg, 11,000,000 pound rocket will crash back on the mount and the fluid hammer would blow out the bottom of the propellant tank -- which would, I think you'd agree, be a very bad thing. So, aborting after the rocket begins to take off would be a disaster as it would likely be destroyed, so therefore, they can NOT allow the clamps to remain locked after the rocket begins to lift-off.

@@Raptorman0909 well they release the clamps when thrust is higher than the weight of the rocket and all systems, weather, and other factor that need to be within the rocket’s capability’s and acceptable range are acceptable, then the clamps release. The situation you described is exactly what they don’t want to see happen, so in order for that to be avoided everything must be perfect for the clamps to release and the rocket to liftoff.

No big deal really, the issue could be anything from a computer failure (unlikely) to an engine failure to just wind being one mile per hour over the limit. Or just a boat in the no go area, hard to say. Either way it probably a small issue and nothing terrible :)

No one knows what caused it yet. Falcon 9 aborted the launch. Not the mission crew. I’m pretty sure the rocket was in control of itself when it issued the command
