Brief explanation.
Local police helicopter (which i thought i missed but you'll see at 9:00 minutes arriving just as the A380 started to depart. This caused the A380 to abort its departure ( i presume because of the wind vortex it would create) I missed the go arounds due to concentrating on the ground movements. Birmingham Airport is mainly a one in one out Airport so for us locals this was quite an event seeing so much ground traffic go arounds etc at one time. Hope this explanation helps 👍✈👍

@@speedbird0094 - Hey, it's a pleasure! I enjoy watching aircraft movements, and this was a particular day when things didn't quite go according to plan! Of course, your own list of aircraft types helped me considerably in my listing! Your photography and camera equipment are excellent, and I know it's not always easy to cover all the shots all the time, because circumstances and relative positions change. I really appreciate your feedback. I'll look out for more of your output, and would be happy to put timestamps on future shows as and when I catch up with them. Good luck with your channel, and you must be encouraged that this particular show attracted 1,750,000 views... remarkable! 😀William

I've said in many a reply the beauty of this plane may not be so much about its looks but more probably the amazing engineering to get something so large in the air. Must have missed the aborted takeoff. It's unimaginable how such a BIG ASS aircraft can get off the ground towing such weight.It's a behemoth, the likes of a flying Blue whale. They might as well build them the size of a cruise ship.😱😱😱 to save money they are building too ooo big to fit more passengers. I would be afraid to fly in such a plane. @@speedbird0094 If the helo had been a flight emergency the A380 would have been held until the helo had landed. What happened here was either an ATC screw-up or the helo pilot exceeding his ATC clearance limit and getting too close to the A380. The A380 in any case will generate no wake vortex until airborne, which would have been well beyond the helo.

I live under the flight path from Birmingham, have flown from there, but it's still amazing how busy it is. I first visited in my teens, 50 years ago, when it was still known as Elmdon, and the solitary building and flight tower were on the other side of the site. There were a handful of flights a day, we were meeting someone from Düsseldorf. Just seeing an airplane was an event back then. I saw the helicopter, thought it was a drone at first, it was so tiny. Wonder why it was there? Seems irresponsible to try to land at the airport with some many alternative landing sites

@speedbird0094 Год назад
I read your comment with intrest as I also grew up and lived underneath the flightpath of bhx (by the macadown) and also watched the growth of bhx from elmdon. As I've in previous comments the noise in those days of bac1-11s vicounts etc etc was incredible and the soot too. It was the local police helicopter and is based at the Elmdon side of the airport. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks 😊

Well we don't know what the problem was there except to say that the operation of the A380 out of Birmingham with a full load of passengers, freight and fuel (to get to an economically viable destination like the Emirates is a marginal proposition. However I doubt that the airline didn't know this and had factored it into the take off statistics. So it's more likely that the aircraft had engine or other problems and the flight crew aborted the departure.

I think the only way we will ever know is if or when a report is made public or I'm going to see if anyone would speak to me in the airport itself (highly unlikely) but what I do like is the amount of discussion this video has created. Thanks for your input 👍✈👍

Regarding the Follow-Me / Ops vehicles. Birmingham, like most airports hosting Code F (aka Code VI) operations will have trail vehicles during taxi and takeoff. The vehicles help monitor Main Landing Gear to Pavement Edge distances and turning radius, and perform real-time inspection for damaged infrastructure (lights, signage, pavement, etc.) and debris blown onto runway by jet blast. Runway inspection typically not required following landing as only A380 inboard engines have thrust reversers.

Don't understand why your camera follows an airplane until it lines up on the runway to take off, and then when it's taking off, you divert back to see the next plane taxiing up. The whole point of filming these things is to see the take-offs, not the planes taxiing.
@speedbird0094

I appreciate your comment and I'll try to explain. When this was filmed I'd only just got into filming. Birmingham Airport is usually a one in one out kind of airport. The 380, Qatar and Saudi planes had just returned after the pandemic so were my top priority and there was an unusual amount of ground traffic I basically didn't know where to point the camera. I would hope that if the same situation was to happen today I would handle it a bit different 👍✈👍
@crypto1701
@crypto1701 6 месяцев назад
Huh? They showed the entire fly out of the next flight after the 380 exited the runway, they just skipped the next one takeoff because the 380 was coming back up the taxiway and it wasn't a very interesting plane that was taking off at the time. They got 3 takeoffs and 4 landings.. skipping one takeoff doesn't take anything away from the awesome takeoffs that they did get. You make it sound like they kept missing the takeoffs.. they got the good ones, especially the 380 finally getting in the air at the end!

I can't understand why the abort. The helicopter doesn't appear on the video until well after the Airbus has slowed to taxi speed. And the pilots couldn't have possibly seen it from the cockpit since the helo was many hundred yards behind the runway when the abort began. Possibly the control tower instructed them to abort? Doesn't seem likely. It looked like the pilot flying came very close to a tail strike on rotation but maybe it appears that way due to the telephoto lens in use. BTW: I flew Boeing 747's for twelve years (at Northwest Orient) and made only one aborted takeoff. We were departing Tokyo (Narita) with a typhoon bearing down on the field. About five seconds after brake release, my windshield wipers stopped working in the middle of a very heavy rainstorm. I had to abort at about 35 knots because I couldn't see out of the windshield. In addition, I had never flown with the co-pilot before this flight (I was a substitute for the captain who had taken ill about 30 minutes earlier) and company policy was never to transfer control of the aircraft in such a doubtful situation. Anyhow, we got the wipers fixed and departed for Hawaii although the wind and rain had gotten progressively worse.
@speedbird0094
@speedbird0094 8 месяцев назад
First if all i want to say thank you for watching but also the fantastic story you have shared. Im overwhelmed to know that a 747 pilot has watched my video. The guy infront of me had a scanner. He informed me that this was an instruction from the tower to abort the departure because of the incoming police helicopter(possibly low on fuel). There was quite some discussion between the tower and the 380 pilots apparently. Especially as they were made to go to the back of the queue. This is why I brought a scanner. So if it happens again we can actually hear whats being said. Thank you again for telling us about your aborted take off and appreciate that. 👍✈👍
