I was 14 when Replicas came out. It was so fundamental to my adolescence. Living in a little shit town, with only radio and four channels on the tv (no internet in 1979!), something as small as a song or maybe an album can be a door for you to walk through.

Hearing this record in 1980 was mind-blowing. Were were in the dawn of 1984. I listened to it constantly and thought the 1980s were going to ruled by robot villains. And they were - Reagan and Thatcher!

The first time I got hold of a copy of Replicas was at my nephews' christening when I was about 12 - first time I'd got hold of the album my sisters friend had it - my friend and I were the djs at that christening - we loved it but we got lots of complaints that night lol

Machine & Soul has had a far greater influence on '90's music than most of us would care to admit, never mind this admittedly potent piece of '70's electronic funk...

GNeuman... your statement baffles me. Who or what did you have in mind when you speak of Machine & Soul's influence? Gary has admitted himself that this is the low point of his career. I would be very surprised if anyone outside of Gary's loyal fanbase actually heard anything off this album. Machine & Soul was far more influenced by others (think wash-downed Janet Jackson and Prince) than having influenced anyone.

Replicas, The Pleasure Principle and Telekon all great albums. I mean classics. Fantastic. Def Leppard have one Hysteria, Gary Numan has 3.

i think off machine & soul, Love isolation is the only "bearable" song on there. i love gary numans music but i dont care much for this particular album, sorry to those out there who like it
