the one thing I take away from him is he's far too thin-skinned to be in the movie business. His reaction to the RLM video and this response to his own BvS rewrite proves he can't handle criticism in any form. Am sure he's a nice guy but if you're putting yourself in the public forum, especially in this day and age, you're opening yourself up to being criticized: fact of your chosen career path
Setting aside the failures of other internet people doing movies, what's really telling about his project is that he doesn't seem very excited about it in any of the coverage or vlogs. If I had some excellent material and knew it was good, I would have the sly smile when talking about it. I'd be unable to sit still in the update videos. Sure, it's hard work but his enthusiasm is just not there. When something like this is great, believe me you can't wait to show someone.
The vibe and presentation of this video is something you'd expect to see when someone's defending themselves from sexual assault allegations or something similar. Not being made fun of on Twitter for a rewrite of a movie. The sensitivity on display here is astounding.

@@AvocadoBawlz-Johnson hands down. even for something that took "20 minutes." It probably took him several hours because he's admitted to being a slow writer. I think like most people, if I had to rewrite the scene you would just try and come up with a creative idea for the fight, it would be mostly action lines with minimal dialogue that just emphasizes the drama of the stakes or something.
The internet brings the worst out of people, unfortunately. The thing to remember is that those people who send death threats over petty shit probably are such lonely, miserable souls. I feel sorry for them.
Chris is one of my favorite youtubers but he himself has a segment called "hilariousity." excuse the misspelling. Where he does ths samd thing. He shit heavily on people's hard work. So I just expected thicker skin. But I can see this goes back to his childhood and being bullied... So idk,
I noticed that after this incident happened, Chris changed his reviews a lot. He doesn’t do worst movies of the year anymore, his criticisms became softer, and and he doesn’t criticize new actors or young actors. Now he knows what it feels like.
I think you sumed it up perfectly. He made his career (at least partially) by literally laughing at many movies but completely falls apart when it's deservedly directed back at him. His rewrite was famously appalling - and as a writer he should know not to publish first drafts. That said, people phoning his family up are psychos.
@@AvocadoBawlz-Johnson it's not a stream it was a spoiler review, lol. and it's worse than that, the date for the video is on march 25 and he announced he was writing the fanfiction in april 16. So he was putting work for almost a month, lmao.
"I've gotten emails from people who told me that they've not committed suicide because they've watched my videos. A shocking amount. A shockingly, disturbingly high amount of emails with that subject." WHAT THE FUCK
This moment changed Chris Stuckman forever. Just watch 3 seconds of his “worst movies 2015”, then 2016, then 2017, and then watch his best of 2018. It’s really depressing
Now hes just a hollywood shill. I mean it definitely changed him but i miss this stuckmann so much more. This video may have been a massive L but i miss how animated and enthused he was in his videos. Now hes just a cringe jaded reviewer who likes every movie because he wants to work with everyone in hollywood. Shelby oaks will be his doug walker demo reel moment
Damage control. When you unintentionally do something cringy and people mock you for it the only way to win is to ignore it and move on and it’ll die out. Him making multiple videos defending his script, laughing at himself, acknowledging the cringe and talking about the death threats and trolls just adds fuel to the fire and keeps the trolls going. Hope he learned his lesson on this. That goes for everyone else as well.
Yeah, all of this could've just been summarized into a correction tweet like this: "The BvS rewrite was just a fun thing I wrote in 20 minutes as a way to share some ideas. Please don't take it too seriously. It's nowhere near polished."
Being a creative requires making a lot of things you will be embarrassed by in retrospect. But we do it for the joy of it. We do it for that 20 min where you were having a good time being creative. We are lucky to have that in our lives. The kind of people who spend all their time bashing and criticizing others’ creations probably will never know that joy. And the ones who make death threats are lunatics and children whom you’re better off ignoring. They will learn their lessons eventually, or die the sad pathetic creatures they are. Your goal is to one day look back on all the fond memories you have accumulated doing the thing you love, and all the various pieces of art you have brought into the world, good or bad, large or small, appreciated or not. Don’t ever stop.
People keep saying that Chris needs to grow up and not whine about this, but here’s some things you need to keep in mind: -Chris admitted that he didn’t spend much time on the script. It wasn’t meant to be taken that seriously -Many of the comments Chris got were constructive criticism or just meant to be funny, which isn’t bad at all, but others were just blindly bashing his work or even sending death threats. That shit isn’t acceptable -People always use the excuse of “That’s how the Internet is, just suck it up and deal with it.” First of all, that doesn’t make it okay to harass people, and second of all, some people CAN’T just “suck it up and deal with it.” Just because you can handle people insulting you online doesn’t mean everyone can
If they can't handle it, they shouldn't be on the internet. The internet is not gonna change for them. There will always be crazy people on the internet.
Andrew Kuder Chris said it took him 20 mins after it was trashed it’s called back peddling. No most of the comments were critiquing him and he deserved it. If you trash a movie and make a re write and it’s even worse, you deserve to be called out
Receiving death threats is pretty fucked up, but that’s how the internet is. Not saying it’s ok, of course not, but you can’t really do anything about it.
What does that have to do with writing a shitty script and making a video like this to gain pity? A hilariously cringe script is still a hilariously cringe script, no matter who wrote it. Lol
@@dariengarcia6439 Every single content creator, on every single platform, gets death threats. I could go into a minecraft video and say "minecraft gay", and there will be 12 year olds wanting to "kill me". Chris was hung up on people "threatening his life" because he made a shitty script? Those are just edgy idiots, how the fuck can that be taken seriously? Every single influencers who has ever been critisized uses the "death threats" line to ease criticism. Every. Single. One. Chris was trying to play off being okay with the memes until those totally serious "death threats".
@@strider117aldo9 Chris got a lot of "hate" for making a hilariously bad script for a new ending of "Man of Steel". For some reason people thought him coming out as ex Jehovah's Witness absolved him of how bad the script was lol. And apparantly he shouldn't be made fun of for the script because of "death threats". Like yes dude, you were completely terrified because of supposed "death threats" from a bad script. Like if he was scared, than he has no balls lmao.
@@drdeadbeat1604 😝, did you see his movie called Julia, it was on here for a while but then it went, he goes around playing a brooding Ryan gosling in drive style character, beating people up with trance music in the back ground it's really funny
because reviewing a movie takes no skill or effort, it's just expressing your opinion, anyone can do that. It's like how the average person can tell you a meal tastes bad but can they make a good meal themself?
Because art is subjective, one peron's dislike is another's like. Take Chris' latest short film, I thought it was very average, others seemed to love it and others didn't. ALL ART IS SUBJECTIVE, do I really need to say this in 2019? lol
@@monosupreme1 his movies, and his rewrites are objectively bad when it comes to the primary elements of movies. In particular, he can not write dialogue to save his life. That's not subjective.
I honestly think the movie will break him. He wept over a RLM joke and got all defensive because his script was whack. Just imagine what he'll do when his terrible movie finally comes out and everyone on the internet takes a turn on it Haley Reed style.
@@JDoe-gf5ozWhen he explained in a video that he was from a Jehovah’s Witness background it starts to make more sense I think. Idk if he has siblings but that would explain some of the over sensitivity
Not gonna say it doesnt hurt to be made fun of and criticized on a scale like this, but i think he handled this poorly. Its more than understandable to be upset about this, but the best way to handle this wouldve been to say nothing at all. Maybe just delete the rewrite and move on with things. The response he gave just seems emotionally manipulative.
I’m a fan of Stuckmann, but the rewrite itself was pretty mediocre, and he said something like “and I wrote that in 20 minutes...” afterwards which made it seem like he himself actually thought that it was really good.
@@dk57nde23 I'm a fan too but it was honestly embarrassingly bad, and the fact that he thought it was a good product detracts a little from his validity as a critic. And no, I'm not saying that he's not entitled to his own tastes (he is), but if the whole world knows you can't even write dialogue correctly, people are not gonna take you seriously as a professional critic. Also, the whole "I wrote in in 20 minutes" being used as a defense here when it was obviously an attempt at bragging in the initial tweet is the cherry on the stupid cake.
It wasn't horrible, but it also just wasn't any better than what the movie gave us. And I believe Stuckmann falls into that category of "people" who turned this into a bigger deal than it needed to be, but so did a lot of people on Twitter. @@jay1jayf
Chris don't you realize how hard Snyder and Terrio worked on that script? How could you be so insensitive to their work? Someone send this to Mauler for Efap!
The best thing to do with stuff like this is always ignore it and move, dont think about it, dont read the comments, just carry on with business as usual and the noise will die down
Wait Chris thought they stopped the fight because both of their Moms names were Martha? I forgot about that lol, his rewrite of that scene is literally the reason why Batman stopped because Batman is in the same position the gunman was in. That was already the writing no reason for a rewrite, I completely forgot about this video.
I thought this experience would humble Chris and bring him back down to earth. Anyone who thinks "Tell that to Zod's snapped neck" is a decent line of dialogue, even for a second, has no business being involved in filmmaking.
@@loslobostotal chris makes fun of things mercilessly in his hilariousity videos. The fact that he couldn't take some criticism and humor at his expense says a lot about his weak personality.
love these commenters who have absolutely no idea what it's like to be in the public eye and have a significant following and face backlash on this kind of scale who think they're in a position to tell Chris he's overreacting.
@Colin Horton Movie Reviews Hey man I just checked out some of your reviews and they're really great! I'm an aspiring film critic as well: dylansmoviereviews.simplesite.com
I don’t mean to sound unsympathetic but I think Chris needs to man up. There are so many factors to this story, but the main one is that he needs to develop much thicker skin. This goes for anybody who chooses to put themselves in the public eye. They need to understand that by doing that they are inviting everyone, people that are both good and bad, to judge them. Everybody is judged, whether it’s on the internet or real life. Is it something we enjoy? No of course not. And do people become cruel monsters, especially on the internet?Yes definitely. But it’s something that anyone who puts their work out there has to be prepared for, especially when it’s over something that people are so passionate about. The Snyder fans, specifically, are as toxic as sports fans. Now I’m not saying Chris deserves to get these hurtful messages. Not in the slightest, but it’s hard to feel bad for him when it kinda comes with the territory and when he himself has even partaken in bashing other people’s work relentlessly. He made a 40 minute video on how terrible Batman & Robin was. How many death threats do you think Joel Schumacher got after he released it over 20 years ago? He probably never lived that down even after he died (RIP). I think Chris needs to put himself in the shoes of all the filmmakers who he’s made fun of in the past. And he just needs to have more of a backbone. If he’s gonna have a permanent career on RU-vid or in film, he cannot be this sensitive. And it’s a good thing he deleted this video from his channel. Not only is it embarrassing and cringeworthy, but acknowledging and crying over people’s hurtful words only give them more power. Everyone knows the best way to stop a bully is to ignore them. As someone who was bullied growing up, you’d think he’d know about that. Also, side note: It’s a good idea to put time and effort into something before putting it out there for people to judge.
If you watch the new video on his Channel about his troubled past with his family after leaving their Jehovah Witness community, which caused a major strain with his parents, his reaction here makes so much more sense. It's not about not having thick skin.
@@ZUIKMedia I did watch it. It was incredible to learn about how much of an evil cult jehovah’s witnesses are and how traumatizing his life was growing up in it. And I hope and pray that his parents will make the right choice and not remove him from their lives. And I’m so happy for him being able to finally come out as pansexual. I have nothing but sympathy for him in all of those areas and I’m so glad he’s finally able to tell his story and be honest about it. But despite all that, I fail to see how it has anything to do with this situation here. Can you explain how they’re correlated? I’m genuinely confused
@@alosim1541 i think he’s trying to say chris has pretty thick skin, but he’s been going through so much in the past ten years that everything started to build up and he couldn’t handle it anymore
@@geenhaaien That’s fair, but in my opinion, it all comes down to if you’re gonna dish it out, you have to be able to take it as well. So if he isn’t durable enough to receive these harsh words about his own work, then he shouldn’t be saying the same stuff about other people’s movies. Like I said, I’m not saying he deserves these hurtful things. Nobody does, including the filmmakers that Chris has done Hilariocity Reviews on. Just my opinion though.
Well I think that for the majority of people thicker skin or resilience to certain stuff is something you need to learn to have in certain situations likeor a need to develop it. It's not like this is a constantly recurring thing with the guy so maybe this was just him learning or having to adapt to this stuff instead of a definitive aspect of his personality. Also this was like 5 years ago. That's a lot of time to pass
From "a little critique" to actual massive online harrase and death threats to your family and complete dehumanization by turning you into a viral joke/meme there's a long road...
He was most likely embarrassed of his response because you can tell by the beginning of the video that he had been crying earlier, which Im not gonna harp on him for. The internet is freaking brutal and he had only intended to make a fan fiction for people to enjoy and not nitpick/take so seriously. He may have also been embarrassed that he started listing off his accomplishments in film since he's trying to become a full time film maker and that may come off the wrong way. Either way, I support Stuckmann completely. He's always been one of my favorite film critics and I wish him the best!
I like Chris but it was an incredibly embarrassing response. The best thing he could have done is basically just put out a video where he casually leans into the meme and shows it doesn't get to him while he pretends to find it funny, and then offhandedly mocks the people sending death threats his way. Instead he comes off as extremely angry and humiliated by the meme and the resulting fallout, which is...EXACTLY what the trolls want, and actually INCREASES the bullying.
@@lettherebelamp5102 I definitely see what you're saying, but when you have the amount of subscribers Stuckmann has you have to recognize what trolls feed off of and how people react to this kind of video. You can't show emotional vulnerability or you'll be absolutely roasted, and to give Stuckmann some credit he has an extremely likable and gentle personality. But that can come with the caveat of not taking overwhelming internet criticism very well. I can totally understand why he put this video out but when it comes down to it, it was a bad decision because it makes you look thin skinned and overly sensitive and that's probably ultimately why he took it down. Again though, I took this whole fiasco with a grain of salt. Stuckmann is such a good reviewer and is so relatable as someone who talks about film, I support him no matter what. Screw the haters. Lol
Crying doesn't make one beta. I've seen hardened, dangerous criminals cry - doesn't make you less of a "man". By all means critique Chris but this beta pish is embarrassing to read and ironically makes someone throwing those terms around sound like a pussy.
@@kyletitterton crying doesn’t make someone beta you’re right. But crying over people making fun of your screen writing is beta af. Chris is a little wimp. He also cried when redlettermedia called him a name.
@@alfredonichlosa1796 I agree with you he's very thin skinned - particularly as a critic himself. His RLM issue was hilarious - how could he be a fan and NOT get their sense of humour? I think I feel quite sorry for Chris sometimes - I think he lacks awareness and was clearly bullied as a lad. And apologies if I was a bit harsh needlessly with my comment before I was probably hung over or something.
Jesus! People need to shut the hell up! Not only did he only take 20 minutes to write that rewrite, the whole new idea he had was a spur of the moment thing. It's not like he had much time to think it all out. Chris, you're awesome, inspiring, and motivating. WE LOVE YOU.
FERMINDAL , its an opinion. As an aspiring filmmaker, I find him very inspiring, especially with his recent success at the tiff, Sundance, and other film festivals. An opinion isn’t a lie, it’s an opinion
I think the 20 min excuse was bs, but regardless of whether it's true or not it comes off as backpeddling. Acknowledging the trolls and showing emotional vulnerability is like throwing gas on a fire. It's probably good for you to see this because you'll realize when you put your work out for the public to see you will receive criticism and it will be both deserved and undeserved.
I no idea what he did, that people are criticizing him for. I mean he’s probably the most normal RU-vidr than all this big narcissistic RU-vidrs like pewdeipie, and h3h3. People act like he did something terrible. I know he does reviews for movies, and I personally don’t always agree with him, but he’s not a narcissistic person, he’s just giving his personal opinions on movies, plus he doesn’t belittle you because he doesn’t like movie. And these people making these childish jokes about zods neck in the script is fucking pathetic. And you can’t make people feel bad for not handling hate, and call snowflakes, if they’re not into this roasting back, and they’re new to this. But on the other hand I could give a shit what someone says, unless if it’s serious criticism. I don’t blindly stand up for someone if they did something terrible, he just made an mistake.
What you meant to say is "I *COULDN'T* give a shit..." When you say "I could give a shit", you're saying that you do care. Sorry, I see these phrases used incorrectly so many times. It's a pet peeve of mine.
@@krissuyx It irritates me as well. "I could care less" is even worse, and people say that a lot. I'm surprised when it's said correctly. Mini rant over, lol. ☮
He does belittle scriptwriters and directers when he trashes their movies for a living. That's fine so long as he can take the same criticism back. However, if he did receive death threats then that's totally uncalled for. Tellingly, he's toned down his negative reviews since this incident.
How the f is pewds a narcissist? Chris wrote the worst script in the world and now he's getting the internet to pay for him to write and create a movie lol.

I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen action figures in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the figures and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical Stuckmannisation,” and then turned around and winked at me.
