Brilliant festival mate, I wish we had something like that here in Australia!! That was a solid stack Tony, very lucky indeed mate. It's great to see you get off road a bit.
Hi Tony, I re-ran your fall about 3x's. You damn near made it through! Sorry that your leg got bruised. Hope your o.k. by now. Thanks for taking us along to the show; looked like a nice event. Your friend from the other side of the pond!! Illinois, USA
Hi Tony, you did great over there mate! dont have to apologize for huffing and puffing. Doing what he loves, what a legend!! Keep up the great work mate.
Great vlog, your report on the ABR festival was excellent , very informative, it gave those of us who couldn't make it to the festival this year an insight on what was on offer at the show ( I will be booking my ticket for 2023) Sorry to see you had an off , hopefully no real damage and you will be out greenlaning again soon 😅
Great video ! I came off my Ktm 350exc on the slippy grass the front washed away on a left hand bend. That was just before we wizzed passed yourself at “11:35” in this video 😃 👍
Cheers, yep the grass was pretty slippy in places. I had to ride the rest of the route at grandma speed. Glad you managed to spot yourselves! Such a great weekend though
When I saw the bike on your leg I thought….”The rest of this video will be Tony in a walking cast” 😱! Thanks for toughing it out taking us around the vendor tents at the festival. Sure hope the leg is on the mend 🤞!!
I done the course 2 times on the Friday on a 1290 SAS, it was reasonably good but when I went out again on Saturday afternoon the course was well torn up in parts and so I came off 3 times LOL, fortunately though I was ok and the bike was all good. It was a great weekend and brilliant value for money. Hope your leg is better.
Good to hear you and the bike are OK, spills like this are just part of off road riding i'm told. If i had landed in the mud at least it would have been softer lol
Was awesome to meet you up at the ABR Tony. What an fantastic event it was this year. Ouch, that off didn't look fun! I didn't do any of the "expert" sections on the trail, will have to do that next year! :D
I rode the Moto Morini X-Cape 650 around there, thought we were doing a road ride and he said do you want to try the off road trail, l said will be slow as 35 years since I have ridden off road, remember the mud as did the Sam and thought I would go around the edge, bike slipped sideways but kept it up. Wasn’t fast but enjoyed myself allot. Went around later on the Sinnis enduro 125 mx and was so much fast. Even did the GS off rode ride on Friday as well, will say didn’t drop any of them which was a surprise for me,
Cracking vid, mate! I know the spot where you came off, as I thought I was gonna end up doing the same on the first pass. Hope the knee is ok now? Great to see you, shame you had to shandy off to your fancy hotel instead of staying for a few beers, though! ;-)
Saw your bike at the festival! Glad you enjoyed yourself. I also have a 790 and really enjoyed the loop albeit I had knobblies on. Still managed to bin it a couple of times on the expert bits 😆
It was a great weekend, shame I couldn't ride more. Hope you and the bike are OK, I knew that going on the expert loops would have definitely spelt trouble for me!
So nice to have a recap on this years ABR. That muddy spot....i went down for my very first time on my new tiger 900 R.Pro in the corner just before that mud. This because i saw 3 bikes lighing there and I did a panic brake , sliped, down i went on the grass. Notice, i 'did' put on brand new MITAS E-07+ tyres just before the ABR festival, witch helped me a lot on my learning curve, during and after the festival, doing parts of the TET trails. Makes me wonder why you even started the ABR trails on road tyres ? Had fun watching and relive my own expirience over there. Thanks for posting
No worries, If the trail was dry the 90/10's I had on would be fine, they were for the rest of the ride. I asked the marshall and he yold me there was no mud
Oh hope no damage Steve. Yep I hit the trail first thing Friday whilst it was still quiet. If I’d had gone a couple of hours later that mud would not have been there
Hi Tony another great vid. It was my first visit to the festival and I enjoyed it and already bought tickets for next year. Hope your leg is OK. There were lots of crashes i saw. The guy in the next tent had to call the AA out as he broke his bike in a crash.....oops.
Cheers, yes there were a few injuries, I saw a couple of broken collar bones in the medical tent. Must be a nightmare if you’ve ridden there and have a tent and all your belongings in the camp site!
OMG, as soon as i saw the mud, i said to myself, don’t go up on the right, its sloping into the middle, and you went straight onto the slope, and down you came. :(
I did spot you talking to ritchy v but in that moment I was heading to the loo 🚽 for a overdue pee as ritchy v had taken me afternoon drinking and when I came back you weee gone gutted 😞 was a good weekend hope the leg has healed now 🙏
Sorry to see you taking a tumble, it looked bloody fun though, I see you have folding mirrors, could you tell me where you got them from please, forgive me if you’ve made a video on these, I’m new to your channel.
C'est la Vie! Yes they are double take mirrors and I can vouch for how ribust they are. Heres the video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bGeOR-i5bOQ.html
Hi Tony, I was at the Festival on the Friday. Went out on the trail asked the same question about the mud.. My AT Adventure sports has the same tyres as your KTM. I followed a guy through that section who slid and I had exactly the same crash as you and trapped my right leg/foot under the bike, managed to get my foot out and thought hmm that hurts a bit. Carried on with a broken front brake lever and handguard got off the trail as soon as I could. Rode home to Stratford upon Avon. Right ankle throbbing, went to A&E to be on the safe side and its broken Arrgh Roll on next year🤦♂🤦♂Hope your leg is ok.
Arrgh David! sorry to hear about the ankle, I hope it mends quickly. As you saw a guy behind me did the same thing, and there seemed to be quite a few spills. They closed the course for a short while on saturday morning i believe?
@@mancavemoto not sure about Saturday morning but as you said we should have just gone through the middle instead of skirting the edge.. having it checked tomorrow when hopefully they can put a smaller cast on 🙏🏼
Funny I went around the loop 4 times but each time ended up completing a slightly different variation even though I wasn't sure which turn I'd changed. Also didn't encounter much mud so I think it was wetting/drying very quickly through the day depending on when you went out.
No I knew there was a small brook to cross towards the end of the long loop, so Intended to miss that anyway. But I can only blame myself I should have got through that easily, in fact when I watched it back I realised I was pretty much through it.
@@mancavemoto nothing to blame mate...you almost made it! I had lots of near wash outs on road tires as well and only difference between my story and yours is a fraction of a reaction time or angle of a rut...part of the game! Sorry to see you got hurt though, that side we could all do without! My only tip (and I'm certainly no expert) is if in doubt you're better to plow straight through an obstacle (within reason), sometimes even a subtle act of avoidance can unsettle the traction in unpredictable ways. That and avoid using the front brake in an on-road way, of course...I had to keep consciously taking my fingers off the front brake so I wasn't tempted to grab unnecessarily.
Yep it was just the angle of the bank that put the front wheel out of straight. I still dont know why i didnt just go straight through the middle, it was early in the loop and i guess I was concious of the lack of grip.
Thanks for the video and hope you are now fully recovered. Slightly related question - how has the reliability of your 790 been? Looks like a great bike but there have been some reports of reliability issues. Cheers
Thanks, yep still a bit of pain a week on, but I’m back riding again now. I’ve had no real issues with the bike. One recall that sorted an issue with a bolt in the brake caliper, it had a dodgy fork seal and that’s been it. Starts first time every time and has never let me down.
There must be a great deal of satisfaction associated with off roading/trail riding, but it never really appealed to me....it reminds me of riding in the snow in winter (been there done that) and it was unavoidable when a bike was my only means of transport but not my idea of fun. Hope your leg sorts itself out with no lasting problems.
Cheers Steven, yep it’s fun. I’m not very adept and need some training, but i enjoy exploring as long as it’s not too challenging (which this course isn’t if you stay off the expert sections)
