Beautiful stuff. How much progress has been made since the filming of this in building that larger breeding colony in U.S.. What is current availability?

Awesome video, Jason. Abronia are such spectacular animals. Hopefully they will be conserved in the wild. I really love your vasconcellosii. Definitely a dream reptile species for me to keep. I live in coastal Southern California, which seems ideal for housing Abronia outdoors almost year-round in terms of climate. Thanks for sharing this video and your knowledge of working with these special lizards.

You are right - the temps are good for anyone living on CA coast to practically keep Abronia outdoors all year round. Minus the occasional heat wave. I used to live in San Jose and we'd make the trip over the mountains to visit Santa Cruz, and that climate was perfect there for montane species, like Abronia and several of the chameleon species.

I'm in Oregon sounds like they would summer well outside here and winter well in my cold house.Thanks for all the info, the most and best I've found yet, very interested in this species, am growing a large environment possibly for a pair of Abronia, thanks for the great info.

the Northwest US and Canada would be great for Abronia outdoors half of the year. I started up with them in WA and had success breeding them right away.

Amazing videoes!!! My dream is to be able to keep thriving colonies of abronia (as many species as i can possibly find) so that these wonderful, beautiful endangered reptiles have insurance colonies. I'm still young and unfortunately have a lot of health problems. But these abronia are so amazing and special. They captivate me so much, and the fact that they are in danger in wild populations makes it that much more important there are people like you. Thank you for being such an amazing inspiration. I just love how they move... the sway is so interesting. Their movement is so deliberate and calculated. Awesome video thank you

My name is Don I live 19 mile from Los Angles California I enjoyed your youtube video, I couldn't help notice the screened outdoor enclosure for the Lizards. I wonder if you could create another video demontrating how you constructed the enclosure or if you purchased where did you purchase at. Thanks!

Can you keep Abronia outdoor all summer? I’ve heard don’t keep them 90 or over for extended periods, but it gets that and then some here. Will shade and the deep moss allow them to be outside all summer?
@wifeandcat
@wifeandcat 4 года назад
you can do it, but it's dangerous especially with babies. In their native environment it does hit 90 occasionally and they know how to survive that heat, by using the cooler areas like large boulders under shady tree and under cool moss...where the temps are 75 or lower on a hot day. I usually pull mine in anytime it is going to be 86 or higher. And yes, they need the shade canopy inside the cage from leafy plants, plus an exterior shade source like a large tree that protects them from the afternoon sun which is hottest, and a thick 4-6 inch layer of cool humid sphagnum moss under those shady areas...then they will be fine.

I'm in Oregon sounds like they would summer great outdoors here and winter well inside my house,with very little supplemental heat. Am growing a 36 x 30 x 20 enclosure and are very interested in the species. Thanks for all the great info, best I've found yet best wishes and hope you make it too Guatemala

Hello I am S.korean. I have a question about Avronia. Is it okay to breed graminea 1pair with female taeniata1 in a single Exotera case? If they are adults? Thanks for reconment!
@wifeandcat
@wifeandcat 2 года назад
I have seen graminea cross with taeniata and have viable young...it is possible, and they live in neighboring geography, so there is one part of both ranges that overlaps, which we would refer to as an 'intergrade zone'. The species can mix, but i'm no aware of anyone in reptile hobby doing this actively.

@@wifeandcat Thanks for commend I've put a pair of graminere together now, but the male keeps biting the female. Why is male trying to breed even in summer? I gave 80dreegs at spotzone and high humidity 70-80

These would do great here in central florida during the winter but i doubt they do well in summer. Ive spoken to many people about it and ive gotten a mixed response? I believe with a shade cloth they would do well during the hot summers
